The purpose of this study is to provide a gymnastics program to seniors suffering from mild dementia and walking problems. For twenty four weeks, twenty eight seniors suffering from mild dementia and walking problems exercised with this new gymnastic program. The study subjects exercised, using this program three times per week. As a result, the movement index after the gymnastic program came out to be 46.78±17.86, higher than the score 38.35±21.7. The difference came out to be<SUP>*</SUP>p<.05, <SUP>**</SUP>p<.01. The left hand grasping power increased to 20.28 from 18.48; the average difference was <SUP>*</SUP>p<0.5. The right arms strength increased to 20.16 from 18.37, although this difference did not count statistically important. The cardiovascular endurance increased to 186.11 from 160.5. And, this difference was <SUP>*</SUP>p<.05, statistically meaningful.
노인의 재활운동 참여 증진을 위한 심리기술요인 적용의 활성화 방안 탐색

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore a promotion plan to increase the willingness to participate in a rehabilitation exercise program by applying psychological kills such as goal setting and positive self-talk for Korean elderly people. Method: 7 elderly people (6 female and 1 male), aged 70 to 86 years old, were selected as participants for the study. A questionnaire on willing to participate in rehabilitation exercises and a 1:1 in-depth interview were used for collecting data. The data of the questionnaire were analyzed by paired t-test and the statistically significant level of this study was set-up as α=.05. The data from the in-depth interview were analyzed through transcription, and to validate the data, triangulation, in-depth description, member check, and peer debriefing were conducted. Results: The results of this study were as follows. 1) Participants’ willingness to continue participating in rehabilitation exercise program was higher when psychological skllis such as goal setting and positive self-talk were applied than when these skills were not applied. 2) It was found that all participants had a positive effect on the motivation for participation in the rehabilitation exercise program through goal setting using the Mandarat plan. 3) It was found that there was a positive effect on the psychological part of all participants by applying psychological skill such as positive self-talk to promote participation in the rehabilitation exercise program. Conclusion: In conclusion, applying psychological skills such as goal setting and positive self-talk could affect positively to promote Korean elderly people’s participation in the rehabilitation exercise program. Thus, it could be used as a promotion plan to increase the willingness to participate in the rehabilitation program among the Korean elderly.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the life movement and mood of the elderly through gymnastics especially designed for their physical characteristics, and to develop and propagate program that is more various, considered characteristics of elderly. The subjects of the experiment was included twenty elderly who lack a good health and little exercise regularly and use welfare facilities : the participants were asked to exercise the gymnastics, designed by researcher for the elderly three times a week for twenty four week. the results were 1. There was significant differences between each group on sit-down/stand-up on chairs (p<.01) using toilets(p<.01) using shower room or bath tub(p<.01) and walking 50m an even land(p<.001). 2. In Mood State, depression score was decreased significantly after the program the significant difference between before and after the program was (p<.001)
8주간의 저근육운동이 노인의 신체조성 및 건강관련 체력에 미치는 효과

The purpose of this research is to closely look at changes in body composition and physical strength of 21 elderly females aged more than 65, by conducting muscle bank exercises 6 times a week for the duration of 8 weeks. The muscle bank exercise consists of 6 parts such as chair, raises, stretch, side raises and stomach. The conclusion of this research is as follows. First of all, 8 weeks of muscle bank exercises had positive influence on BMI, a body composition factor. Second, for health related physical strength factors, chair and sit-ups were positive influencers. For further research, it will be required to set not only an exercise group but also a control group, and more test subjects should be selected and be included in the research. Moreover, in order to expect changes in body composition, at least 16 weeks of long term exercises should be considered to have the expected effect be realized.

The authors measured on the anxiety and depression, using Zungs self-rating anxiety and depression scales of 329 in Physical Activity elderly group and compared the results with those of 521 in Non Physical Activity elderly group, who lived in Seoul. The summary of the results is as follows 1. There was no significant difference in the mean of total anxiety scores between the two groups. 2. The anxiety scores relating to sweating, apprehension, dyspnea, restlessness and insomnia were relatively high in both groups. The score of faintness panic, fear, tremors and facial flushing were low in both groups. 3. 48 among Physical Activity group(14.6%) showed rather serious anxiety levels with scores of 50 or higher, while 153 among Non-Physical Activity group(29.4%) showed the same score. 4. There was no significant difference in the mean of total depression scores between the two groups. 5. The depression scores relating to hopelessness, personal devaluation, dissatisfaction, psychomotor retardation and emptiness were relatively high in both groups. The scores of psychomotor agitation, crying spells constipation and suicidal rumination were low in both groups, 6. 111 Physical Activity group(33.7%) showed rather serious depression levels with scores of 50 or higher, while the 294 among Non-Physical Activity group(56.5%) showed the same levels. 7. The items relating to palpitation, fatigue, anxiousness, mental disintegration, apprehension and tremor in anxiety scale, and the items relating to tachycardia, fatigue, irritability, psychomotor agitation, depressed affect, dissatisfaction, crying spells and emptiness in depression scale were correlated significantly with correlation coefficient of 0.40 or higher.

The purpose of the current study was to investigate the effects of one time a week fall prevention exercise program on the fitness of older adults. The fall prevention exercise program consisted of stretching, aerobic exercise, muscle exercise, balance exercise, and warm-down was applied to a total of 13 elderly women for 50 minutes once a week during a period of 10 weeks. Findings through the fitness test using older adults fitness test instrument before and after applying the fall prevention exercise program were as follows: First, lower limbs muscular power, cardiovascular endurance, and kinetic balance of older adults have been increased by applying the 10 weeks fall prevention exercise program. Second, brachial muscular power, shoulder joint flexibility and hip joint flexibility of older adults have not been improved after applying the 10 weeks fall prevention exercise program. Therefore, fall prevention exercise program contents to improve brachial muscular power, shoulder and hip joint flexibility should be added when the fall prevention exercise program will be applied to in the future.

The purpose of the current study was to examine the effects of leisure satisfaction based on ground, water, air leisure sport-tourism activities on wellness. A total of 437 respondents were selected from three different leisure sport-tourism activities such as ground, water, and air leisure sport-tourism activities using the quota sampling method. The findings were as follows: First, leisure satisfaction with air leisure sport-tourism activities was higher than ground and water leisure sport-tourism activities, and it of water leisure sport-tourism activities was higher than ground leisure sport-tourism activities. Second, the perception of wellness from air leisure sport-tourism activities was higher than it from ground and water leisure sport-tourism activities. Finally, leisure satisfaction with leisure sport-tourism activities had a positive influence on the perception of wellness.
