A Hybrid type LPM(Linear Pulse Motor) is designed as single side stator structure. The statistic and dynamic characteristics measurement system was designed. By the computer simulation, the permanent magnet design method is also clarified to desired thrust force. And the static and dynamic characteristic experimental measurement system was suggested for the prototype LPM. Finally the microstep driver is adopted to the position controller to the designed LPM and from the experimental results, the repetitive errors of the prototype LPM was known.

A prototype LPM(Linear Pulse Motor) is designed as single side stator structure. Experimental results are shown that the static and dynamic. By the computer simulation, the permanent magnet design method is also clarified to desired thrust force. And microstep driver is adopted to the position controller to the designed LPM. The driver suppressed position errors within 1/10 pitch.

Engine-out HC emissions were investigated during cold and hot start. The tests were conducted according to engine cooling temperatures which were controlled by simulated coolant temperatures of cold and hot start, on a 1.5L, 4-cylinder, 16valve, multipoint-port-fuel-injection gasoline engine. Hydrocarbons, CO and CO2 emitted at the cold coolant temperature were much higher than those of hot coolant temperatures. And the main source of high HC emissions at cold coolant temperature was confirmed as partial burning. The effect of higher torque starter on engine-out emissions were investigated. The results obtained indicate that higher torque starter provides the potential for start-up engine-out emissions reduction of HC, CO.
