The numerical simulation optimized by Four Dimensional Data Assimilation (FDDA) with Quick Scatterometer (QuikSCAT) data is carried out to evaluate wind resource characteristics at various heights in the southeastern area of the Korean Peninsula, where wind farms are planned to be built on on- and off-shore as well as comparable diurnal wind variations are characterized at the surface. The temporal and spatial distributions of modeled wind speeds showed good agreement with the observations based on the temporal variation analysis. Model results indicate that the higher model is performed in resolution, the more precise results is at turbine hub height. Occasionally, wind speed variations for each numerical resolution has a different regional and seasonal variations. In the coast area, hub height wind speed of 9km-resolution is simillar to that of 3km-resolution. On the other hand, hub height wind speed of 3km-resolution is simillar to that of 1km-resolution in the Jiri mountainous area.

For the evaluation of wind resources, numerical simulation was carried out as a tool for establishing wind map around the korean peninsula. Initial and boundary condition are given by 3 hourly RDAPS(Regional Data Assimilation and Prediction System) data of KMA(Korea Meteorology Administration) and high resolution terrain elevation land cover(30 seconds) data from USGS(United States Geological Survey). Furthermore, Data assimilation was adopted to improve initial meteorological data with buoy and QuikSCAT seawinds data. The simulation was performed from 2003 to 2006 year. To understand wind data correctly in complex terrain as the korean peninsula, at this research, Wind map was classified 4 categories by distance from coastline and elevation.

To evaluate high-resolution wind resources for local and coastal area with complex terrain was attemped to combine the prognostic MM5 mesoscale model with CALMET diagnostic modeling this study. Firstly, MM5 was simulated for 1km resolution, nested fine domain, with FDDA using QuikSCAT seawinds data was employed to improve initial meteorological fields. Wind field and other meteorological variables from MM5 with all vertical levels used as initial guess field for CALMET. And 5 surface and 1 radio sonde observation data is performed objective analysis whole domain cells. Initial and boundary condition are given by 3 hourly RDAPS data of KMA in prognostic MM5 simulation. Geophysical data was used high-resolution terrain elevation and land cover(30 seconds) data from USGS with MM5 simulation. On the other hand SRTM 90m resolution and EGIS 30m landuse was adopted for CALMET diagnostic simulation. The simulation was performed on whole year for 2007. Vertical wind field a hour from CALMET and latest results of MM5 simulation was comparison with wind profiler(KEOP-2007 campaign) data at HAENAM site.

Wind energy issued as most spotlight general energy by excellence of actuality as well as economical efficiency, solving environmental problem which caused by creating the energy and possibility of eternal production. Accordingly, government is at the stage of corresponding level by requesting development of new technology to the developed countries as a part of national key industries. The grievous situation from such a rapid movement is meteorological comprehension and assessment as well as the problem of estimation exactness about the wind. In this study, numerical simulation from the MM5 is counducted for 3km resolution and data assimilation using QuikSCAT seawinds data is applied.

Articular cartilage is a highly differentiated tissue, lacking a vascular supply and having only limited regenerative capability. It has been well documented that articular cartilage of mature animals has little capacity for repair after traumatic injury. Cuts or other mechanical damage restricted to the cartilage alone do not repair. However, it has been observed both experimentally and clinically that articular defects extending to the subchondral bone eventually are resurfaced with a form of fibrous, fibrocartilagenous or hyaline like cartilagenous tissue. Author's study was designed to evaluate the healing process of osteochondral defect of the knee of rabbit. Partial thickness defect of cartilge and full thickness osteochondral defect of 30 rabbits were made with 3mm diameter of drill-bit. Experimental animals were divided into three groups : 1) Group Ⅰ: Control group 2) Group Ⅱ: Partical cartilage defect group 3) Group Ⅲ: Osteochondral defect group The healing of the defect was assessed at 1weeks, 3weeks, 5weeks, 12weeks after operation by gross and histological examination. The principal findings were as follows. 1. The initial formation of repair tissue was variable, but it ocurred in most cases. 2. In partial cartilage defect group, degenerative change was more severe. 3. There is evidence of healing of small (1-4 mm diameter) but not of large full thickness articular defect. 4. Microscopically, resurfacing of the cartilage holes repaired mainly with fibrocartilage at 5 weeks of injury.

Tibial segmental fractures are considered special type of lesion and pose many problems and the results often are unsatisfactory. We performed retrospective study of the 17 cases of open tibial segmental fracture which were treated from January 1990 to December 1995 and evaluated the efficacy of the external fixation and intramedullary nailing. The segmental fracture were classified according to the Melis classification 17) and open fracture were classified according to the Gustilo-Anderson classification'. After average follow-up of 16 months (range, 12 to 24 months), all of the fractures had healded except one. The results were as follows: 1. The average time of union was 22.5 weeks in the case of intramedullary nailing (Endernail; 26 weeks, Interlocking IM nailing; 21 weeks) and 31 weeks in the case of external fixation (Monofixator; 28 weeks, Ilizarov external fixator; 34 weeks). 2. Nonunion and osteomyelitis was developed in one case of Ilizarov external fixation and 5 cases of pin tract infection were also developed. Among 8 cases of external fixation group, 4 cases of delayed union and one case of malunion were developed. 3. In intramedullary nailing, delayed union was developed in 4 cases. 4. The functional results by Tile rating system were showed good in 6 cases, acceptable in 8 and poor 3. In conclusion, intramedullary nailing provided better results than external fixator in open segmantal tibial fractures, but we consider fixation device should be selected depending on the fracture type, degree of comminution and condition of the soft tissue.

We reviewed 40 consecutive patients having a primary total hip replacement(THR) and 60 patients having a primary total knee replacement(TKR) for osteoarthritis to compare the quality of the(QoL) before and after operation. Bilateral arthroplasties were perfomed 10 cases of THR and 25 cases of TKR. We used a modified Harris hip score and a knee score of American knee society, the Rosser Lndex Matrix and authors' evaluation system to generate these scores. Quality of life was highly improved by Rossers and authors evaluation system after THR and TKR. The median values of QoL scores before and after operation were significantly different(p$lt;0.05). The median preoperative QoL score in THR was better than in TKR. Postoperative QoL scores for both groups were similar. Quality of life evaluated by Rossers score and authors evaluation system in bilateral THR was better than bilateral TKR. We think better quality of life in bilateral THR over bilateral TKR by authors evaluation system is because the hip joint is more stable and has better range of motion than knee joint. We conclude that change of life style including the use of bed, toilet seat elevation, and the use of dinning table will be neccesary after bilateral TKR.
