김소월의 시론 詩魂은 1920년대 일제 강점 하에 발표된 것으로 김소월이 생각하는 근대시의 특성과 의미에 대한 것을 살펴볼 수 있을 뿐만 아니라,당대 사회에 대응한 시적 기능과 가치를 알 수 있게 하는 글이다. 그런데 당대 제국주의적 파시즘에 대응하는 시의 위상과 기능으로서 생각하고 있는 김소월의 詩魂은 오늘의 입장에서 볼 때 생태주의적 성격을 많이 지니고 있는 특징을 발견하게 된다.이 시론에서 김소월은 시를 쓰게 하는 ‘시혼’은 바로 영혼이 이상적 미의 의장을 입고 출현하는 것으로 순간적인 감정이나 시상과는 다른 대상이라는 점을 강조하고 있다. 이때 시의 근원적 형성원리로 제시하고 있는 ‘시혼’은 바로 물질과 영혼의 이분법적 분류와 근대 과학적 세계관이 갖는 불연속성에 반대하고 있는 것으로 생태주의적 사상을 담고 있는 내용이다. 즉 세계를 물질적 측면으로만 규정하고 분석하는 과학적 세계관과는 달리 물질과 영혼의 소통과 넘나듦을 인정하는 일원론적 태도로서 범신론적 우주관을 보여주고 있는 것이다.또 소월은 영혼이 갖는 의미와 작용에 대해서 당시에 침투해 들어오는 근대자본주의 문명이 갖는 부정성에 대해 환기하고 그 문명이 갖는 부정성을 비판하기 위한 의도로 쓰고 있다. 실제 그는 영혼의 거처와 그것이 갖는 힘의 실체를 언급하는 과정에서 당대 사회의 부정적 현상이라 할 수 있는 도시문명의 비생명성에 대한 비판의 의도로 시혼을 제시하고 있다. 이것은 기술의 발전으로 인한 생명 경시와 생태계 위기를 불러온 근대문명에 대한 비판적 관점의 생태주의적 인식과 일치하는 부분이다. 특히 이는 근대시 작품의 생성원리로서 고유성과 다양성을 의미하는 ‘陰影’이 그 내용적 특질 상 생물지역주의에서 주장하는 구체성과 다양성을 의미한다는 점에서 자연과 인간의 조화를 추구하는 자연주의적 태도로 볼 수 있다.그렇게 볼 때 소월의 ‘시혼론’은 생명에 대한 인식의 근거를 영혼에서 마련했고, 당시 기술문명으로 발전해 가는 근대화의 과정, 즉 일본 제국주의의 독점자본주의화 과정에서 막 상처받기 시작한 뭇 생명들에 대한 애정을 일원론적, 자연주의적 관점에서 피력함으로써 생태주의적 사상이 갖는 성격의 단초를 보여주었다고 할 수 있다. Kim, So-weol``s essay on poetry - ``Poetic Soul`` which was presented during the Japanese occupation in the 1920s, is the writing that can make it possible for us not only to look into the characteristic and meaning of modern poetry but also to be aware of the poetic function and value responding to the society at that time. By the way, from the 줡oetic Soul즫hich is considered as having a poetic status and function responding to th imperialistic fascism at that time, we get to discover the characteristic assuming much of ecological properties from today``s standpoint. Kim, So-weol, in his essay on poetry, is putting emphasis on the point that ``Poetic Soul`` appears in visual design of ideal beauty, and it is an object different from a momentary emotion or poetic concept. At this point, the ``Poetic Soul`` suggested as the original formative principle is opposed to the dichotomous classification of material and soul, and the discontinuous view of the world of modern scientific outlook on the world, containing the content of the ecological idea. In other words, unlike the scientific outlook on the world which defines and analyzes the world only from the materialistic aspect, ``Poetic Soul`` is showing one aspect of ecological idea which acknowledges the communication and frequenting between material and soul. In addition, So-weol, in relation to the meaning and mechanism of soul, is using ``Poetic Soul`` as an attempt to recall the negativity of modern capitalist civilization, which was infiltrating at that time, and to criticize th negativity of that civilization. Actually, So-weol suggested ``Poetic Soul`` as an intent to criticize non-vitality of urban civilization which could be called a negative phenomenon of the then society in the process of commenting on the abode of soul and truth of its power. This is the part which coincides with the ecological awareness with a critical viewpoint of the modern civilization that has invited the contempt of life and ecological crisis due to technological development. In this context, it might be concluded that So-weol``s theory of ``Poetic Soul`` arranged the grounds for life awareness in soul and showed the beginning of the character possessed by ecological idea by setting forth his affection for all sorts of lives which began to get hurt in the process of modernization evolving into technological civilization, or in the process of imperialism``s transition into Fascism.

한용운 시를 유토피아 사상의 관점에서 볼 필요성은 첫째, 그의 『님의 침묵』이 당시 수렁에 빠진 우리 민족에게 구원의 메시지를 던져주기 위한 의도적 기획으로 쓰여졌다는 점, 둘째, 그의 시는 문학적, 문학사적인 측면에서 「조선불교유신론」 및 「조선독립이유서」와 연결되는데, 이 두 편의 글은 당시의 한용운의 역사적 실천의식을 담고 있어 유토피아 사상의 특성을 드러낸다는 점, 마지막으로 한용운 스스로 ‘불교사회주의’란 용어를 썼다는 사실에 입각하여 그의 정신사에서 유토피아적 사유의 흔적을 찾을 수 있다는 점 등이다. 유토피아 사상의 특성이 부정적 현실에 대한 비판과 함께 그 대안의 사회상을 제시하고 있는 점을 고려하여 한용운의 시를 살펴보면 부정적 현실 비판의식의 측면에서 ‘님의 침묵과 진리 부재의 현실’, ‘주권 상실과 불평등한 사회현실’의 양상을 보이고, 대안적 사회상의 측면에서는 ‘불성 회복과 극락정토’, ‘구세주의와 평등사회’의 양상을 보이는 것으로 정리할 수 있다. 먼저 ‘님의 침묵과 진리 부재의 현실’은 「님의 침묵」 등의 시를 통해 일제하 침략의 현실을 불법이 사라진 상태, 즉 부처님으로 상징화된 님의 침묵으로 인해 무법천지로서 진리의 부재의 현실임을 표현하고 있다. ‘주권 상실과 불평등한 사회현실’은 「당신을 보았습니다」 등의 시를 통해 일제의 침략에 따른 주권과 인권의 상실이 우리 민족을 수탈과 능욕의 대상이 되게끔 하여 매우 불평등하고 처참한 현실에 빠져 있음을 드러내고 있다. 당대 사회의 부정적 면을 극복한 사회상으로 제시하는 유토피아 사회상은 한용운 시에서 먼저 ‘불성 회복과 극락정토’의 형상으로 나타나고 있는데, 이 내용은 「이별은 미의 창조」라는 작품들을 통해 불교적 사상에 기반을 둔 역설적 인식으로 보다 고난에 찬 경험이 불법을 되찾게 되리라는 진리의 확신으로 제시되면서, 현실 속에서 갈망하는 극락정토의 이미지를 민족적 구원의 메시지로 전달하고 있다. ‘구세주의와 평등사회’ 부분에서는 일제 하 우리 민족을 대상으로 대승적 보살정신을 입각한 중생 구제의 사상을 피력하면서 「명상」이라는 시를 통해 불교사상으로 볼 수 있는 무계급성과 평등정신, 물질적 궁핍이 없는 사회성을 그려내어 이상적 사회상을 그려내고 있다. 이는 그가 당대에서 말하고 있는 불교사회주의 사상의 구체화 형태로 볼 수 있다. 그렇게 볼 때 한용운의 불교적 유토피아 의식은 일제 하 고통스런 민족적 현실에서 불법의 회복을 통한 불국토가 건설되길 꿈꾸면서, 그러한 현실적 실천의 한 방편으로 불교사회주의에 해당하는 평등사회가 우리 민족의 역사 속에 자리 잡길 염원하는 것으로 볼 수 있다. The necessity of seeing Han Yong-un"s poems from the perspective of utopia thought was because his poems were an intentional plan to deliver a message of salvation to our nation that was in a quagmire. His poems are linked to 「Reformist"s Theory of Joseon Buddhism」 and 「Joseon Indenpence Reason Book」 in terms of literary and literary history, and these two writings contain Han Yong-un"s historical consciousness of practice. It is also possible to find traces of his utopian thinking in his mental history when he himself used the term “Buddhist socialism”. Considering that the characteristics of utopia"s ideas, along with criticism of negative reality, suggest society images for alternatives, Han Yong-un"s poem, ‘Utopian Consciousness’ shows in terms of negative reality criticism, the ‘Silence of Nim’ and the reality of absence of truth and the ‘lost sovereignty and unequal social reality’, and in terms of an alternative society image, it shows aspects of “Buddha-nature Restoration and the ‘Pure Land of Sukhavati’, and ‘saviorism and equal society’. Above all, the ‘Silence of Nim’ and the reality of the absence of truth revealed under the Imperial Japan, the lawlessness and the reality of the absence of truth owing to the ‘Silence of Nim’, which symbolizes the reality of invasion as Buddha. The ‘loss of sovereignty and unequal social reality’ reveals that the loss of sovereignty and human rights caused by the invasion of Imperial Japan makes the nation subject to exploitation and humiliation, so that it falls into a very unequal reality. The utopia society image, presented as a society image that overcomes the negative aspects of the contemporary society, presents the image of Pure Land of Sukhavati, longed by sentient beings as a message of national salvation in Han Yong-un"s poems, as the ‘Buddha-nature Restoration and the Pure Land of Sukhavati’ are presented as a paradoxical perception based on Buddhist"s thoughts, with the conviction that a more arduous experience will bring back true Buddha Dharma. ‘Saviorism and equal society’ expresses the idea of sentient beings salvation based on the prevailing Bodhisattva Idea to the Korean people under Imperial Japan, and depicts a society with classlessness and equality, and no material deprivation as a Buddhist"s ideal society image. This can be seen as the embodiment of Buddhist socialism thought that he addressed at the time. Seen as such, Han Yong-un"s Buddhist"s Utopian Consciousness dreamed of building a Land of Buddha through the restoration of Buddha Dharma in the painful national reality under Imperial Japan, and hoped that the equal society, as one of such practical practices, which corresponds to Buddhist socialism, would be placed in the history of our nation.

Most studies on poems of Lee Yuk Sa have been conducted from the perspective of nationalism. Given his life and works, however, it is required to interpret his poems in terms of socialist consciousness. Lee Yuk Sa joined Uiyuldan to come into contact with anarchism and Marxism as socialist ideologies. Then he received socialism ideology education in earnest when he entered Chosun Revolution School of Military and Politics established by Uiyuldan in 1932. His proses and the records of his testimony drawn up by Japanese investigators also show his activities as a socialist. In this respect, it is necessary to study his works from the view-point of socialism. With respect to poems, socialist ideology can be easily found in such po-ems as Hwanghon or Twilight(935), Let's Sing A Star (1936), and Haejosa or Words of the Sea Tide(1937). These poems describe the ardent hope for the advent of a new era and the emergence of a free and equal society for the masses. Those themes are considerably consistent with the themes often adopted by socialist poets in those days. Considering the fact that national resistance is combined with the socialist revolutionary spirit in his poems, socialist nationalism seems to characterize his poetic world.
