Spasticity is a motor disorder characterized by a velocity dependent increase in muscle tone with exaggerated tendon jerks, resulting from hyper-excitability of the stretch reflex. The aim of this study is to develop a portable system for quantifying the grade of spasticity which could calculate the biomechanical as well as neurophysiologic parameters, and for determining the relationship between the Tonic Stretch Reflex Threshold (TSRT) and Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS). Eleven patients with stroke participated in the study (6 males and 5 females, the average age of 64.5±16.0 years). As a results, the mean and standard deviation values of the TSRT were 129.8±4.2, 123.4±5.2 and 119.1±2.6 in the MAS 1, MAS 1+ and MAS 2 groups, respectively. Also, there was a negative correlation between the TSRT and MAS (rho=-0.72, p<0.05). This demonstrated that the TSRT could be made clinically available for the more objective and reliable evaluation of the spasticity, instead of using the conventional clinical scales and an isokinetic dynamometer.

Bowel sounds (BS) are produced by the movement of the intestinal contents in the lumen of the gastro-intestinal tract during peristalsis and thus, it can be used clinically as useful indicators of bowel motility. We devised an estimation algorithm of bowel motility based on the regression modeling of the jitter and shimmer of BS signals measured by auscultation. Ten healthy males (23.5±2.1 years) were examined. Consequently, the correlation coefficient, coefficient of determination and standard error between the colon transit times (CTT) measured by a conventional radiograph and the values estimated by our algorithm were 0.98, 0.96 and 2.86, respectively. Also, through k-fold cross validation, the average value of the absolute differences between them was 5.0±2.5 hours. This method could be used as a complementary tool for the non-invasive measurement of bowel motility.

본 논문에서는 기계적 움직임 없이 라인 스캔 방식에서 기존 슬릿 시스템을 대체할 수 있는 DMD(Digital Micromirror Device)를 이용한 공간 스캐닝 기반 초분광 이미징 시스템을 개발하였다. 개발된 장치에서 라인 스캔 속도와 공간 변조 폭은 DMD 내 마이크로 미러들의 패턴 변경을 통해 제어되었으며, 스캔하는 동안 초분광 이미지 데이터와 실화상 이미지를 동시에 획득할 수 있도록 시스템을 구성하였다. 개발된 장치의 파장 보정 실험을 통해 측정된 중심 파장과 대역 통과 필터의 실제 중심 파장 사이의 평균 제곱근 오차는 3.82 nm이었다. 또한, 컬러 체커 실험에서는 시스템에서 획득한 스펙트럼을 비교를 통해 개발된 장치로 다양한 컬러 패턴을 분류할 수 있는 가능성을 확인하였다. 개발된 초분광 이미징 시스템은 식품 안전에서의 이물질 탐지, 의료/헬스케어에서의 환부 검출 및 피부암 진단, 유해물질 감시 등 다양한 분야에 적용 가능할 것으로 예상된다. In this paper, we proposed a hyperspectral imaging (HSI) system based on a spatial scanning by a digital micromirror device (DMD), which can replace the conventional slit system in line-scan strategy without mechanical motion. The line-scan rate and spatial modulation width were controlled by changing the micromirror pattern in the DMD, and during scanning both HSI data and real images were acquired simultaneously. As a result, the RMSE between the center wavelength measured through the wavelength calibration and the actual center wavelength of the bandpass filter was 3.82. Also through the color checker experiment, the feasibility of classifying various color patterns was shown by comparing the spectra obtained from the system. It is expected that the HSI system developed can be applied to various fields such as foreign object detection in food safety, affected area segmentation in biomedical research and hazardous substance warning in facility management.
