Vol.17 No.1
Vol.19 No.3
Non-contact surface wave transmission (SWT) measurements are used to evaluate the depth of a surface-breaking crack in concrete slabs. The author propose a measurement model that includes an appropriate configuration of the source and receivers, and a transmission function for the given configuration. A series of numerical simulations using a 3D finite element model is used to obtain the transmission function. Then, validity of a proposed model is verified through experimental studies. Two air-coupled sensors are used to measured surface waves across surface-breaking cracks with varying depths from 0mm to 100mm with intervals of 10mm in a concrete slab (1500×1500×180mm3) in laboratory. As a result, the proposed method is demonstrated as to be effective for charactering the depth of a surface-breaking crack in concrete bridge deck with an average error of 10%. A discussion on practical applications of the proposed method is also included in this article.

In general, post tensioned (PT) flat plate slab systems have been used as a Gravity Load Resisting System (GLRS) in buildings. Thus, these systems should be constructed with Lateral Force Resisting Systems (LFRS) such as shear walls and moment resisting frames. When lateral loads such as winds or earthquakes occur, lateral load resisting systems undergo displacement by which connected gravity systems experience lateral displacement. Therefore, GLRS should have some lateral displacement capacity in order to hold gravity loads under severe earthquakes and winds. Since there are few researches on PT flat plate slab systems, behavior of the systems have not been well defined. This study investigated the cyclic behavior of post tensioned flat plate slab systems. For this purpose, an experimental test was carried out using 4 interior PT flat plate slab-column specimens. All specimens have bottom reinforcement in the slab around the slab-column connection. Test variables of this experimental study are vertical load level and tendon distribution patterns.

Objectives The waist circumference has been known as an obesity index reflecting the visceral fat. This study was conducted to investigate the obesity index of what can be predicted visceral fat obesity. Methods 121 test subjects who have BMI≥30 or BMI 27∼29.9 with having more than one high blood pressure, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia were gathered in the Gachon University Korean medical hospital. The relationship between obesity index, the abdominal fat area, and the metabolic syndrome component analyzed using Pearson correlation analysis. The obesity indices, that are largely used in clinics such as waist circumference (WC), HC (hip circumference), body mass index (BMI), waist-hip ratio (WHR) and waist-height ratio (WHtR). Total fat area (TFA), visceral fat area (VFA), subcutaneous area (SFA) and visceral fat/subcutaneous fat ratio (VSR) that was measured from CT. Results 1. Total fat area (TFA) was positively correlated WC, BMI, HC. 2. The subcutaneous fat area (SFA) was positively correlated HC, WC, BMI. 3. The visceral fat area (VFA) did not show a strong correlation with obesity indicators. Conclusions It was found indices of obesity and visceral fat area is a high correlation. BMI, WC was the obesity index showed a high correlation as the SFA, TFA. (J Korean Med Rehab 2016;26(1):103-111)

The depth of a surface-breaking crack in a concrete slab is characterized by using airborne surface wave transmission measurements. Two air-coupled sensors are used to measure surface waves across surface-breaking cracks with varying depths from 0 mm to 100 mm in a concrete slab (1500 X 1500 X 180 mm3). Resulting transmission coefficient and crack depth relation from a series of experimental studies shows a good agreement with theoretical results previously obtained by the author.
