In this work, the effect of plasma and electrolessly metal-plating of pitch-based carbon fibers (CFs) was studied in the contant of NOx and SOx adsorption. Surface properties of the CFs were determined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. N2 adsorption isotherms at 77K were investigated by BET and BJH methods to characterize specific surface areas and pore volumes of the CFs. The NOx and SOx removal efficiency was confirmed by gas chromatographic technique.

The crystallization, exothermic, and electrochemical properties of PAN/pitch-based carbon fibers (CFs) with various temperatures were studied. The CFs were prepared from stabilized PAN and pitch-based carbon fibers at 500°C, 700°C, 900°C, and 1100°C with 60 min. The surface and structural properties of the CFs were determined by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. The electrical conductivity was obtained by measuring the surface resistance with 4-pin probe method. The thermal properties of the CFs were studied by thermal conductivity measuring system.

Generally, the basalt fibers/polypropylene composites have incomplete mechanical properties because basalt fibers have poor interfacial adhesion with polypropylene due to their imperfect interface. Therefore, in this study, the acid treatment on basalt fiber surfaces was carried out for improvement of interfacial adhesion between the basalt fiber and the polypropylene matrix. And, the correlation between mechanical properties and surface property changes of basalt fibers-reinforced polypropylene composites was studied at mechanical and energetic point of view.

Electrochemical properties of ruthenium oxide (RuO<sub>2</sub>)/multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) composite electrodes for supercapacitors were investigated. The electrodes were prepared by impregnating MWCNT with different concentrations of RuCl<sub>3</sub>ㆍxH<sub>2</sub>O solution followed by chemical reduction and annealing at 150°C under a nitrogen atmosphere. Cyclic voltammetry results of 10 wt% RuO<sub>2</sub>/MWCNT composite electrodes demonstrated that the specific capacitance of the deposited RuO<sub>2</sub> electrode was significantly greater than that of pristine MWCNT and 5 wt% RuO<sub>2</sub>/MWCNT electrodes, respectively, in the same medium.

Air pollution has been aggravated by four developments: increasing traffic, urban growth, rapid economic development, and industrialization. Air pollution threatens the health of human being and other life on our planet. The toxic gas adsorption properties of coaltar pitch-based activated carbon fibers (ACFs) with different steam activation conditions were studied. The ACFs were prepared from stabilized pitch-based fibers by steam activation at 900°C with 20, 40, and 60 min. Surface properties of the ACFs were determined by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope (SEM). N<sub>2</sub> adsorption isotherms at 77K were investigated by BET and BJH methods to characterize specific surface areas and pore volumes and toxic gas removal efficiency was confirmed by a gas chromatography technique.

The effect of electroless nickel-phosphorous (Ni-P) and sputtering plating on thermal, exothermic, and electrical properties of PAN-based carbon fibers (CFs) was investigated. The surface and structural properties of the CFs were determined by scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. Thermal conductivity and exothermic analysis were tested using a thermal conductivity and power supply system. The electric resistance was obtained by measuring the surface resistance with 4-point probe electric resistivity tester.

Ordered mesoporous carbons (OMCs) offer potential applications in the field of catalysis, electrodes, and adsorbents. ordered and disordered mesoporous carbon were prepared by an organic-organic self-assembly method with mixture ratio of phenolic resin and petroleum based-mesophase pitch as carbon precursors. Mesoporous carbons were synthesized by a low-temperature autoclaving method and was carbonized at low temperature. Their structural properties and surface chemistry were investigated using, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method, adsorption branches of isotherms with BJH method, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), potentiometric titration, and thermal analyses. The electrochemical measurements were performed with an electrochemical analyzer system.
