Detailed heat transfer coefficient distributions on a gas turbine blade tip were measured using a huedetection<br/> base transient liquid crystals technique. The heat transfer coefficients on the shroud and near tip<br/> regions of the pressure and suction sides of a blade were also measured. Both plane tip and squealer tip blade<br/> were considered. The heat transfer measurements were taken at the three different tip gap clearance of 1.0%,<br/> 1.5%, and 2.5% of blade span. Results show the overall heat transfer coefficients on the tip and shroud with<br/> squealer tip blade were lower than those with plane tip blade. However, the reductions of heat transfer<br/> coefficients near the tip regions of the pressure and suction sides were not remarkable.

Performance tests of the plate-fin type heat exchanger for high temperature application have been performed with a high temperature heat exchanger performance test facility. The facility consists of air compressor, electric heaters, venturi flow meters, flow control valves, and combination probes which can measure temperature, total and static pressures at the same time. The performance tests were carried out near the heat exchanger design condition and off-design conditions, and the test results were compared with the calculated results. The test results showed lower heat exchanging efficiency and smaller pressure drop than the calculated results. Based on the difference, the modified design of the heat exchanger was offered.

Plate-fin type recuperators for the gas turbine/fuel cell hybrid power generating system were designed using commercial design software, MUSE. Heat transfer efficiency and total pressure drop in the recuperator were calculated to confirm required recuperator performance. Both counter flow and cross flow type plate-fin recuperators were designed. Results show that the counter flow type has higher efficiency and short core length, but the cross flow type is simpler to construct because the cross flow type does not need additional distributors. Two or three headers for the each recuperator core will be designed and tested to evaluate best header design. The designed recuperators and headers which will be designed later will be constructed, tested, and used in gas turbine/fuel cell hybrid power generating system.

The film cooling technique is commonly applied to protect the high temperature components of gas turbines from the high temperature combustion gas. In this study, the pressure sensitive paint(PSP) technique which has been widely used in the gas turbine film cooling study is introduced. The principle of the PSP technique, test facility for the technique, and some examples of the application has been presented and the possible error of the technique is also discussed.
