동해 울릉분지 북서해역에 분포하는 해저협곡의 탄성파 층서와 발달사

동해 울릉분지 북서해역에 위치한 해저협곡의 층서 및 발달사를 연구하기 위해 다중빔 및 탄성파 자료를 분석하였다. 탄성파 자료 해석에 의하면 연구지역의 퇴적층은 침식 부정합면에 의해 분리되는 4개의 층서단위로 구분된다. 대륙사면에 발달한 퇴적층은 사면붕락을 포함하는 평행층리 음향상이 우세한 반면, 분지로 향하면서 평행층리 음향상과 캐오틱 음향상을 보이는 퇴적층이 분포한다. 전반적으로 사면에서는 얇은 층후를 보이며, 사면기저부와 분지 평원에서는 두꺼운 층후로 발달한다. 탄성파 특징과 분포에 의하면 각 층서단위의 퇴적은 해저협곡의 발달사와 잘 대비된다. 음향기반 암 상부에 위치하는 층서단위 1은 사면에서는 얇은 층후로 발달하며 분지로 향하면서 층후는 점차 증가한다. 층서단위 2는 다른 층서단위에 비해 사면에서 두꺼운 층후를 보이며 단층과 관련된 사면붕락이 발생한다. 사면붕락에 의해 유발된 질량류 퇴적체는 사면기저부에 주로 퇴적되며, 이 퇴적체는 심해 선상지로 해석된다. 퇴적물의 퇴적보다는 침식작용이 우세하여 협곡의 폭과 깊이는 증가한다. 층서단위 3은 해저협곡 주변부의 사면에서 얇은 층후를 보이며, 분지로 향하면서 퇴적두께는 점차 증가한다. 층서단위 4는 사면에서 슬라이드/슬럼프를 포함하는 얇은 층후를 보이며, 사면기저부에는 두꺼운 층후로 퇴적되는 심해 선상지가 발달한다. 해저협곡 주변부에서의 사면붕락과 우세한 침식작용에 의해 해저협곡의 폭과 깊이는 증가한다. 결과적으로 연구지역의 해저협곡과 연계된 층서단위의 형성은 사면붕락에 의한 퇴적물 공급량, 광역적인 구조운동, 해수면 변동에 의해 크게 조절되었다. Multibeam and seismic data in the northwestern part of the Ulleung Basin were analyzed to study stratigraphy and evolutionary history of submarine canyon. A detailed analysis reveals that the sedimentary sequences in this area consist of four stratigraphic units separated by erosional unconformities. On the continental slope, these units are dominated by well-stratified facies with some slope failures, whereas these units show well-stratified and chaotic facies toward the basin floor. Generally, the sediment thickness is relatively thin on the slope, whereas thick sediment accumulation occurs on the base of slope and basin floor. Based on seismic characteristics and distribution, the deposition of each units are well correlated with the evolutionary history of the submarine canyon. Unit 1 directly overlying the acoustic basement has thin sediment layer on the slope, whereas its thickness gradually increase toward the basin floor. Compared to other units, Unit 2 is relatively thick accumulations on the slope and contains some slope failures related to faults systems. The mass transport sediments due to slope failures, mainly deposited on the base of slope as a submarine fan. The width and depth of submarine canyon increase due to dominant of the erosional process rather than the sediment deposition. Unit 3 is thin accumulation on the slope around the submarine canyon. Toward the basin floor, its thickness gradually increases. Unit 4 is characterized by thin layers including slides and slumps on the slope, whereas it formed thick accumulations at the base of slope as a submarine fan. The increase in the width and depth of submarine canyon results from the dominant of the erosional process and slope failures around the submarine canyon. Consequently, the formation of sedimentary units combined with the development of submarine canyon in this area is largely controlled by the amounts of sediment supply originated from slope failures, regional tectonic effects and sea-level fluctuations.
동해 울릉분지 남서주변부에 발달하는 침식충전구조의 기원 및 분포

Analysis of multi-channel seismic reflection profiles acquired from the southwestern margin of Ulleung Basin reveals that the cut and fill structures, which show U-shaped or V-shaped morphology, occur on variable size. The cut and fill structure mostly consists of fine-grained sediments on the well data and is characterized by transparent or semitransparent seismic facies on the seismic section. Such cut and fill structures dominantly occur in the syn-compressional megasequence (MSQ3), which was deposited during basin deformation of late Miocene, among the four megasequences of the study area. These cut and fill structures can be divided into three groups based on their size and formation time. The cut and fill structures of Group I were formed when Dolgorae structure was active, and occurred on a small scale. The cut and fill structures of group II were formed when both Dolgorae structure and Gorae V structure were active, and the number and size of those increased compared with group I. The cut and fill structures of group III were formed when Dolgorae structure was weaken gradually but Gorae V structure kept active, and the number and size of those decreased in comparison with group II. Consequently the cut and fill structures in the southwestern margin of Ulleung basin are interpreted as submarine canyon based on spatial distribution, size and fill sediment. They were controlled by the tectonic movement in response to basin closure and tectonic-induced sediment supply variation.
동해 울릉분지 북서지역 가스하이드레이트 부존 지시자의 탄성파 속성 분석

Based on the interpretation of 3D seismic profiles acquired in the northwestern area of the Ulleung Basin,East Sea, the shallow sediments consist of five seismic units separated by regional reflectors. An anticline is present inthe study area that documents activity of many faults. Bottom simulating reflectors are characterized by high RMSamplitude. Acoustic blanking with low RMS amplitude is distinctively recognized in the gas hydrate stability zone. Seismic attribute analysis shows that if gas hydrates are underlain by free gas, the high reflection strength and the lowinstantaneous frequency are displayed below the boundary between them. Whereas, if not, the reflection strength is lowand instantaneous frequency is high continuously below the gas hydrate zone. Based on the spectral decomposition ofthe bottom simulating reflector, the high envelope at the specific high frequency range indicates the generation of thetuning effect due to the lower free gas content. Four models for the occurrence of the gas hydrate are suggestedconsidering the slope of sedimentary layers as well as the presence of gas hydrate or free gas.

Analysis of multi-channel seismic reflection profiles collected from the Ulleung Basin reveals that the Quaternary sequence consists of four stratigraphic units separated by erosional unconformities. Individual stratigraphic unitincludes eighteen mass transport deposits which are variable in geometric characteristics and spatial distribution. Eachmass transport deposit on the seismic profile is acoustically characterized by chaotic or transparent seismic facies, andshows wedge or lens-shaped external geometry. The mass transport deposits, which comprise a succession of stacked wedges, mainly occur on the southern slope, and their thickness gradually decreases toward the basin plain. The time structure map of erosional unconformities shows that a tectonic-induced structural high and troughs toward the northwest and northeast are developed at the central part of the basin. Based on the isochron map, the mass transport deposits, originated from southern part of the study area, transported to the basin plain and can be divided into two groups by the structural high. Consequently, the mass transport deposits within the Quaternary sequence in the Ulleung Basin are largely controlled by the large amounts of sediment supply, dissociation of gas hydrate during the low stands, and central structural high.
울릉분지 천부 가스하이드레이트 부존지역에서의 해저지형변화에 따른 퇴적물 특성 연구

동해 울릉분지에서는 시추선 RemEtive를 사용하여 UBGH-X-01 가스하이드레이트 탐사가 2007년에 실시되었다. 본 연구에서는 천부 가스하이드레이트가 확인된 UBGH1-10 정점에서 무인잠수정(Quantam WROV)을 사용하여 획득된 푸쉬코어와 해저지형 분석을 수행되었다.UBGH1-10 정점은 seismic chimneys의 탄성파 특성이 발달된 지역이다. 이곳에서는 해저표면으로부터 수 m 하부에서 가스하이드레이트가 발견되었다. 이 정점은 수 m 높이의 얕은 둔덕들이 무인잠수정에 부착된 비디오 카메라에 의해서 관찰되었다.이곳에서 채취된 길이 약40 cm의 푸쉬코어는 생물교란된 뻘질 퇴적물로 구성되어 있으며, 가스하이드레이트와 chemosynthetic community는 관찰되지 않았다. 푸쉬코어는 X-ray fluorescence scanner를 사용하여 퇴적물의 26가지 원소 조성을 분석하였다. UBGH1-10 정점의 산화환원환경은 Mo/Al과 Mn/Ti 원소비를 이용하여 천부 가스하이드레이트가 발견되지 않은 UBGH1-9와 UBGH1-1 정점과 대비하였다. 이 정점의 일차생산력은 Ba/Al 원소비를 이용하여 다른 정점과 대비하였다. 천부 가스하이드레이트가 발견된 UBGH1-10 정점은 활발한 가스방출과 관련된 생물집단 서식 또는 자생광물 형성의 흔적이 발견되지 않으며, 퇴적물에서도 산화환원환경과 일차생산력의 큰 차이가 관찰되지 않는다.
