The absorption of iodine laser beam by an atomic iodine cell is measured for different energy densities. The atomic iodine is produced by thermal dissociation of gaseous molecular iodine in a heated quartz cell. The absorption begins to saturate at energy density of 20mJ/㎠. The full saturation occurs at about 400mJ/㎠ of incident energy density.

An efficient CVL(Copper Vapor Laser) pumped dye laser(Rd-6G 5×exp(-4) mol/l; MeOH) is described. A newly designed dye cell was used and operate very stably at high pulse repetition rate of 3.5kHz. We obtained maximum output power of 150mw with the pumping laser power of 2W (efficiency=7.5%). Frequency tuning of the laser beam was possible in the range of 563~601nm with the linewidth of 4.2GHz.

In this experiment we have measured the photodissociation rate of i-C₃F??I used in iodine photodissociation laser. To measure the photodissociation rate, we have used the threshold condition of laser oscillation. Using various neutral density filters with different optical density and three different Output mirrors with various reflectances, we have 15% of photodissociation in i-C₃F??I at the pressure of 60 torr in the laser tube.

An Ac-type Plasma Display Panel (PDP) operating with Ne-Ar(0.1%) Penning mixture gas is fabicated. The characterics of the panel with electrodes covered with thin and thick dielectric layers are studied. The brightness of the Neon-orange light emitted by the panel measured as function of applied voltage and frequency. As an application, a graphic display system equipped with PDP showing still and moving pictures is made.
