Background: The MDM2 oncogene, a negative regulator of p53, has a functional polymorphism in the promoter region (SNP309) that is associated with multiple kinds of cancers including non-melanoma skin cancer. SNP309 has been shown to associate with accelerated tumor formation by increasing the affinity of the transcriptional activator Sp1. It remains unknown whether there are other factors involved in the regulation of MDM2 transcription through a trans-regulatory mechanism. Methods: In this study, SNP309 was verified to be associated with overexpression of MDM2 in tumor cells. Bioinformatics predicts that the T to G substitution at SNP309 generates a stronger E2F1 binding site, which was confirmed by ChIP and luciferase assays. Results: E2F1 knockdown downregulates the expression of MDM2, which confirms that E2F1 is a functional upstream regulator. Furthermore, tumor cells with the GG genotype exhibited a higher proliferation rate than TT, correlating with cyclin D1 expression. E2F1 depletion significantly inhibits the proliferation capacity and downregulates cyclin D1 expression, especially in GG genotype skin fibroblasts. Notably, E2F1 siRNA effects could be rescued by cyclin D1 overexpression. Conclusion: Taken together, a novel modulator E2F1 was identified as regulating MDM2 expression dependent on SNP309 and further mediates cyclin D1 expression and tumor cell proliferation. E2F1 might act as an important factor for SNP309 serving as a rate-limiting event in carcinogenesis.
The Effects of Flipped Vocabulary Learning on Chinese College Students' Listening Achievement
( Zhen Yang ),( Chang-in Lee ) 한국멀티미디어언어교육학회 2018 멀티미디어 언어교육 Vol.21 No.1
This study looked at the correlation between improved listening skills and flipped vocabulary learning on low-level EFL learners in a Chinese context. Thirty-one college students participated in a listening practice course for 20 weeks. The first three weeks focused on training on flipped learning and course preparation. The actual implementation of the real listening practice took place between weeks four and nineteen. During the listening practice course, 26 listening practice sections were covered. An alternating treatment design was used with two flipped vocabulary learning methods, learning words by teacher-made videos or by an online dictionary before the listening practice. For every listening practice section, students learned 20 target words before class. A vocabulary activity helped to enhance the effects of flipped learning in class before the start of listening practice. Data sources included pre-tests, repeated tests, and post-tests. The findings are as follows: 1) flipped learning of vocabulary had positive effects on listening improvement, and there was an overall increase in listening test scores. 2) With the two vocabulary learning methods, vocabulary learning with videos was more effective on students' listening practice than the method using an online dictionary.

Zhen-Hang Yang 대한수학회 2012 대한수학회보 Vol.49 No.1
In this paper, the log-convexity of another class one-para-meter mean is investigated. As applications, some new upper and lower bounds of logarithmic mean, new estimations for identric mean and new inequalities for power-exponential mean and exponential-geometric mean are first given.
Effect of bFGF on the MCF-7 Cell Cycle with CD44+/CD24-: Promoting the G0/G1→G2/S Transition
Zhen-lin Yang,Kai Cheng,Zhao-dong Han 한국유방암학회 2012 Journal of breast cancer Vol.15 No.4
Purpose: Few cells with stem cell characteristics possess capabilities of self-renewal and differentiation, which leads to high tumorigenesis and resistance to standard chemotherapeutic agents. These cells are mostly quiescent, and arrest occurs at the mitotic G0/G1 phase in mitosis. We explored the effects of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) on the MCF-7 cell cycle with CD44+/CD24-. Methods: Cancer-initiating cells were propagated as mammospheres. The CD44+/CD24- subpopulation was sorted by a fluorescence activating cell sorter-Vantage flow cytometer. A cell cycle analysis was performed with different bFGF concentrations. Results: Differences in the CD44+/CD24- cell proliferation under different bFGF concentrations were observed (p=0.001). When the bFGF concentration was increased, the proportion of CD44+/CD24- at G0/G1 decreased (p=0.023). Conclusion: We conclude that bFGF may sustain CD44+/CD24- cell proliferation and could promote cell progression through the G0/G1→G2/S phase transition.
Schur power convexity of Gini means
Zhen-Hang Yang 대한수학회 2013 대한수학회보 Vol.50 No.2
In this paper, the Schur convexity is generalized to Schur f-convexity, which contains the Schur geometrical convexity, harmonic convexity and so on. When f : R+ → R is defined as f(x) = (xm −1)/m if m 6≠0 and f(x) = ln x if m = 0, the necessary and sufficient conditions for f-convexity (is called Schur m-power convexity) of Gini means are given, which generalize and unify certain known results.

Piliated Lactobacillus rhamnosus (pLR) strains possess higher adherent capacity than non-piliated strains. The objective of this study was to isolate and characterize probiotic pLR strains in human fecal samples. To this end, mouse polyclonal antiserum (anti-SpaA) against the recombinant pilus protein (SpaA) of L. rhamnosus strain GG (LGG) was prepared and tested for its reactivity and specificity. With the anti-SpaA, a method combining the de Man, Rogosa, and Sharpe (MRS) agar plating separation and colony immunoblotting (CIB) was developed to isolate pLR from 124 human fecal samples. The genetic and phenotypic characteristics of the resultant pLR isolates were compared by randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) fingerprinting, and examination of adhesion to Caco-2 cells, hydrophobicity, autoaggregation, and in vitro gastrointestinal tolerance. Anti-SpaA specifically reacted with three pLR strains of 25 test strains, as assessed by western blotting, immunofluorescence flow cytometry, and immunoelectron microscopy (IEM) assays. The optimized MRS agar separation plus anti- SpaA-based CIB procedure could quantitatively detect 2.5 × 103 CFU/ml of pLR colonies spiked in 106 CFU/ml of background bacteria. Eight pLR strains were identified in 124 human fecal samples, and were confirmed by 16S RNA gene sequencing and IEM identification. RAPD fingerprinting of the pLR strains revealed seven different patterns, of which only two isolates from infants showed the same RAPD profiles with LGG. Strain PLR06 was obtained with high adhesion and autoaggregation activities, hydrophobicity, and gastrointestinal tolerance. Anti-SpaA-based CIB is a rapid and inexpensive method for the preliminary screening of novel adherent L. rhamnosus strains for commercial purposes.

This paper primarily focuses on evaluation and adjustment methods for small signal analysis with wind farm integration. The connection of wind farms may aff ect the original oscillation modes of the system, and may also introduce new oscillation modes. To ensure the security and stability of the system, it is necessary to assess the running state of the system and evaluate the development direction of the small signal stability on the premise of taking volatility into account. It is also important to fast adjust the system when an unstable state happened. The method in this paper provides a new way to accurately evaluate and adjust the stability of the system integrated with wind farms. Broad learning system (BLS) is a non-fi xed model and has the potential of incremental learning. A BLS model is trained to evaluate the damping ratio sensitivity in diff erent operating states. The adjustment part will use the optimal adjustment model and damping ratio sensitivity to adjust unstable systems. The superior performance of the model proposed in this paper is tested by the case study based on the IEEE 3-machine, 9-bus, and the New-England 10-machine, 39-bus. The results demonstrate the feasibility, validity, and eff ectiveness of the method proposed in this article.

Li4Ti5O12–rutile TiO2 (LTO–RTO) dual-phase nanocomposite anode materials show excellent electrochemical performance. However, the effects of molar ratio of Li/Ti and thermal treatment on electrochemical properties of the LTO–RTO composite have been rarely reported. In this work, LTO–RTO nanocomposites were prepared by sol-hydrothermal method with different Li/ Ti molar ratios in raw materials and following calcinations at 600℃, 650℃ and 700℃ for the different holding time. The results indicate that with the decrease of Li/Ti molar ratio, the discharge capacity of the LTO–RTO nanocomposite increases at first and then decreases, and the optimal Li/Ti molar ratio is 4:4.77, which was obtained with calcination at 600℃ for 10 h. The effects of calcination temperature and holding time were further investigated. The result demonstrates that the thermal treatment has an obvious influence on the electrochemical performance due to the morphology change in the nanocomposite. The LTO–RTO nanocomposite calcinated at 650℃ for 2 h with a Li/Ti molar ratio of 4:4.77 in raw materials delivers excellent rate capability: the initial discharge capacity is 175.9, 176.3, 170.4, 167.5, 163.3 and 155.6 mA h g-1 at the rate of 0.5, 1, 3, 5, 10 and 20℃ (1 C = 175 mA h g-1), respectively.
