      • A mobile telemedicine system for remote consultation in cases of acute stroke.

Kim, Dong-Keun,Yoo, Sun K,Park, In-Cheol,Choa, Minhong,Bae, Kyoung Y,Kim, Young-Dae,Heo, Ji-Hoe Published and distributed by Royal Society of Medi 2009 Journal of telemedicine and telecare Vol.15 No.2

<P>A mobile telemedicine system, capable of transmitting video and audio simultaneously, was designed for consulting acute stroke patients remotely. It could use a wireless local area network (e.g. inside the hospital) or a mobile phone network (e.g. outside the hospital). When initiating a call, the sending unit chose a suitable encoding profile based on the measured data throughput, in order to allocate appropriate bit rates for video and audio transmission. The system was tested using a portable digital assistant (PDA) type phone and smart phone as receiving units. Video and audio recordings were made from five patients (two normal and three stroke patients) and then transmitted at different rates. Subjectively, both video and audio qualities improved as the data throughput increased. The physical findings, including facial droop, arm drift and abnormal speech, were observed remotely by four specialists according to the Cincinnati Pre-hospital Stroke Scale guideline. A comparison between the face-to-face method and the mobile telemedicine method showed that there were no discrepancies at bit rates of more than 400 kbit/s. We conclude that specialists could generally conduct remote consultations for stroke patients either using a public mobile network or a wireless LAN.</P>

      • Neighborhood environments and quality of life in older adults

        Jung Eun Ko,Minhong Lee,Sun Hae Lee 한국노인복지학회 2016 한국노인복지학회 학술발표논문집 Vol.6 No.1

A growing body of research has examined the relationship between environmental factors and quality of life in older populations. Results have indicated that the neighborhood environment has a unique influence on individual health. This qualitative study explores the perspectives and expectations that older adults from Seoul, South Korea have about their neighborhoods, which is a relatively unstudied topic. Sixty-five participants aged 65 and over and living in Seoul participated and were interviewed by the investigator. Analyses centered on the concept of preferred neighborhood features that would improve older adults’ quality of life. Three themes were identified that influenced quality of life: health-related facilities, senior programs and services, and transportation services. Health-related facilities comprised general hospitals, geriatric clinics, parks, and sports facilities. Senior programs and services comprised cultural programs and rest facilities. Transportation services comprised public transportation. Older Korean adult participants described specific preferences for varied neighborhood features that each affects their individual quality of life. These findings provide critical information for the development and enhancement of age-friendly resources in local neighborhoods.

Preferred Neighborhood Features and Quality of Life among Older Adults

        Ko Jung Eun(고정은),Lee Sun Hae(이선혜),Lee Minhong(이민홍) 연세대학교 사회복지연구소 2018 한국사회복지조사연구 Vol.56 No.-

This study recruited sixty-five individuals aged 65 and over living in Seoul, Korea and conducted a face-to-face interview using a semi-structured questionnaire. They were asked mainly to list what they considered to be the three most important features that a neighborhood should have for its older residents. A thematic analysis was conducted on the transcribed interview data with a focus on the preferred features of a neighborhood and the related specifics that the respondent thought would improve the quality of life in older adults. Four features were identified: healthcare facilities and services, spaces and facilities for wellbeing routines, senior programs and services, and public transportation services. These features were closely related to themes in health, psychological, interpersonal, and socialization areas of life. Expected benefits from the features in these areas were then converged into higher level themes of independence and connectivity. Increased accessibility with the minimal cost was the most commonly found theme across the four features listed above. These findings are significant in highlighting the perspectives of the older adults on a quality life in later years, which can be used to design and improve the local neighborhoods to make them more aging-friendly.

Optimal Relay Selection and Power Allocation in an Improved Low-Order-Bit Quantize-and-Forward Scheme

( Jianrong Bao ),( Dan He ),( Xiaorong Xu ),( Bin Jiang ),( Minhong Sun ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2016 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.10 No.11

Currently, the quantize-and-forward (QF) scheme with high order modulation and quantization has rather high complexity and it is thus impractical, especially in multiple relay cooperative communications. To overcome these deficiencies, an improved low complex QF scheme is proposed by the combination of the low order binary phase shift keying (BPSK) modulation and the 1-bit and 2-bit quantization, respectively. In this scheme, the relay selection is optimized by the best relay position for best bit-error-rate (BER) performance, where the relays are located closely to the destination node. In addition, an optimal power allocation is also suggested on a total power constraint. Finally, the BER and the achievable rate of the low order 1-bit, 2-bit and 3-bit QF schemes are simulated and analyzed. Simulation results indicate that the 3-bit QF scheme has about 1.8~5 dB, 4.5~7.5 dB and 1~2.5 dB performance gains than those of the decode-and-forward (DF), the 1-bit and 2-bit QF schemes, at BER of 10-2, respectively. For the 2-bit QF, the scheme of the normalized Source-Relay (S-R) distance with 0.9 has about 5dB, 7.5dB, 9dB and 15dB gains than those of the distance with 0.7, 0.5, 0.3 and 0.1, respectively, at BER of 10-3. In addition, the proposed optimal power allocation saves about 2.5dB much more relay power on an average than that of the fixed power allocation. Therefore, the proposed QF scheme can obtain excellent features, such as good BER performance, low complexity and high power efficiency, which make it much pragmatic in the future cooperative communications.

Optimized Relay Selection and Power Allocation by an Exclusive Method in Multi-Relay AF Cooperative Networks

( Jianrong Bao ),( Bin Jiang ),( Chao Liu ),( Xianyang Jiang ),( Minhong Sun ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2017 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.11 No.7

In a single-source and multi-relay amplify-forward (AF) cooperative network, the outage probability and the power allocation are two key factors to influence the performance of an entire system. In this paper, an optimized AF relay selection by an exclusive method and near optimal power allocation (NOPA) is proposed for both good outage probability and power efficiency. Given the same power at the source and the relay nodes, a threshold for selecting the relay nodes is deduced and employed to minimize the average outage probability. It mainly excludes the relay nodes with much higher thresholds over the aforementioned threshold and thus the remainders of the relay nodes participate in cooperative forwarding efficiently. So the proposed scheme can improve the utility of the resources in the cooperative multi-relay system, as well as reduce the computational complexity. In addition, based on the proposed scheme, a NOPA is also suggested to approach sub-optimal power efficiency with low complexity. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme obtains about 2.1dB and 5.8dB performance gain at outage probability of 10-4, when compared with the all-relay-forward (6 participated relays) and the single-relay-forward schemes. Furthermore, it obtains the minimum outage probability among all selective relay schemes with the same number of the relays. Meanwhile, it approaches closely to the optimal exhaustive scheme, thus reduce much complexity. Moreover, the proposed NOPA scheme achieves better outage probability than those of the equal power allocation schemes. Therefore, the proposed scheme can obtain good outage probability, low computational complexity and high power efficiency, which makes it pragmatic efficiently in the single-source and multi-relay AF based cooperative networks.

      • Optimization of Decarboxylation Conditions for Cannabinoids from Cannabis Flower Using Response Surface Methodology

        Min Hong,Joon-Hee Han,Sun-Yeop Lee,Da-Hye Choi,Hyeon-Ju Lee,Soo-Ung Lee,Tae-Hyung Kwon 한국식품영양과학회 2021 한국식품영양과학회 학술대회발표집 Vol.2021 No.10

In this study, the decarboxylation conditions were optimized using the reaction surface methodology analysis method to optimize the cannabidiolic acid (CBD-A) to cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THC-A) to tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) conversion rate. A total of 13 decarboxylated samples obtained for each condition were analyzed using HPLC. As a result, the CBD to CBD-A ratio was highest in the reaction temperature 120℃ and reaction time 140min decarboxylation conditions. The THC to THC-A ratio was the highest in the reaction temperature 90℃ and reaction time 180min decarboxylation conditions. As a result of response surface analysis (R²>0.95), the optimal decarboxylation conditions of the dependent variable that maximized the two independent variables were reaction temperature 128℃ and reaction time 52min. In the case of CBD to CBD-A ratio, the most relevant dependent variable was reaction temperature. As the reaction temperature increased, the CBD to CBD-A ratio tended to increase.
