        NONLINEAR IMPULSIVE SYSTEM OF MICROBIAL PRODUCTION IN FED-BATCH CULTURE AND ITS OPTIMAL CONTROL

        In this study the optimal control of fed-batch glycerol fermentation is investigated based on an impulsive dynamical system. Considering the sudden increase of the glycerol and alkali in fed-batch culture of biodissimilation of glycerol to 1,3-propanediol, this paper proposes a non-linear impulsive system of fed-batch culture. The existence, uniqueness and regularity properties of piecewise solution for the system are proved. In view of the controllability of volumes of glycerol added to the reactor instantaneously, the paper constructs an optimal control model based on the nonlinear impulsive system and the existence of the optimal control is obtained. The control variables here are the moments and the sizes of jumps in the states at the discrete instants and the objective is to maximize the productivity of 1,3-propanediol over one cycle.

        Growth Inhibitory and Pro-Apoptotic Effects of Hirsuteine in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia Cells through Targeting Sphingosine Kinase 1

        Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a slowly progressing hematopoietic cell disorder. Sphingosine kinase 1 (SPHK1) plays established roles in tumor initiation, progression, and chemotherapy resistance in a wide range of cancers, including leukemia. However, small-molecule inhibitors targeting SPHK1 in CML still need to be developed. This study revealed the role of SPHK1 in CML and investigated the potential anti-leukemic activity of hirsuteine (HST), an indole alkaloid obtained from the oriental plant Uncaria rhynchophylla, in CML cells. These results suggest that SPHK1 is highly expressed in CML cells and that overexpression of SPHK1 represents poor clinical outcomes in CML patients. HST exposure led to G2/M phase arrest, cellular apoptosis, and downregulation of Cyclin B1 and CDC2 and cleavage of Caspase 3 and PARP in CML cells. HST shifted sphingolipid rheostat from sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) towards the ceramide coupled with a marked inhibition of SPHK1. Mechanistically, HST significantly blocked SPHK1/S1P/S1PR1 and BCR-ABL/PI3K/Akt pathways. In addition, HST can be docked with residues of SPHK1 and shifts the SPHK1 melting curve, indicating the potential protein-ligand interactions between SPHK1 and HST in both CML cells. SPHK1 overexpression impaired apoptosis and proliferation of CML cells induced by HST alone. These results suggest that HST, which may serve as a novel and specific SPHK1 inhibitor, exerts anti-leukemic activity by inhibiting the SPHK1/S1P/ S1PR1 and BCR-ABL/PI3K/Akt pathways in CML cells, thus conferring HST as a promising anti-leukemic drug for CML therapy in the future.

        Experimental investigation of influence of scratch features on GaAs cleavage plane during cleavage processing using a scratching capability index

        High-power semiconductor laser cavities are formed via the cleavage plane, and critically influence the reliability and performance of the laser. This paper investigates both the scratching operation and the cleavage operation to improve the quality of the cleavage plane during the entire cleavage process. The scratching capability index (SCI) variable was proposed to evaluate the scratch quality of GaAs. A series of scratching and cleavage experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of the scratch features on the GaAs cleavage plane. Experimental results of the scratching operation showed that a smaller scratching load and higher scratching speed were beneficial for reducing the kerf width and damage area width of GaAs. The cleavage operation on GaAs {100} cleavage planes exhibited crack propagation in the [1̄01̄] and [1̄00] directions and a slip direction in the <110> crystal direction. The calculated SCI variable correlated well with the scratch and cleavage qualities of GaAs, where a higher scratching SCI correlated with a smoother GaAs cleavage plane during cleavage processing. Thus, the SCI has the potential to relate the scratching parameters with the resulting cleavage plane quality of GaAs, which will help improve the manufacturing of semiconductor laser chips in the future.

      • A Novel Hybrid Optimization Algorithm Based on GA and ACO for Solving Complex Problem

        In allusion to the deficiencies of the ant colony optimization algorithm for solving the complex problem, the genetic algorithm is introduced into the ant colony optimization algorithm in order to propose a novel hybrid optimization (NHGACO) algorithm in this paper. In the NHGACO algorithm, the genetic algorithm is used to update the global optimal solution and the ant colony optimization algorithm is used to dynamically balance the global search ability and local search ability in order to improve the convergence speed. Finally, some complex benchmark functions are selected to prove the validity of the proposed NHGACO algorithm. The experiment results show that the proposed NHGACO algorithm can obtain the global optimal solution and avoid the phenomena of the stagnation, and take on the fast convergence and the better robustness.

      • A Novel Hybrid Evolution Optimization Algorithm and its Application

        For the premature convergence and initial pheromone distribution problem of ant colony optimization algorithm, an improved particle swarm optimization (MPSO) algorithm is introduced into ant colony optimization algorithm in order to propose a novel hybrid evolution optimization (HEACO) algorithm in this paper. In the proposed HEACO algorithm, the ergodicity of the chaos is used to initialize the swarm in order to enhance the diversity of the particle swarm, and adjust the mutation probability and inertia weighting factor in order to improve the capability of local and global search. Then the MPSO algorithm is used to control the parameters of the heuristic factor, pheromone evaporation coefficient, and the stochastic selection threshold in order to effectively overcome the parameter influences of ACO, reduce the numbers of useless experiments and balance the developing optimal solution and enlarging search space. A series of typical traveling salesman problems are selected to validity the effectiveness of the proposed HEACO algorithm. The simulation results show that the performance of the proposed HEACO algorithm is better than the traditional ACO algorithm and PSO algorithm. So the proposed HEACO algorithm can effectively improve the solving efficiency and quality, and speed up the convergence and computation.

        The unified equations to obtain the exact solutions of piezoelectric plane beam subjected to arbitrary loads

        The unified equations to obtain the exact solutions for piezoelectric plane beam subjected to arbitrary mechanical and electrical loads with various ends supported conditions is founded by solving functional equations. Comparing this general method with traditional trialand-error method, the most advantage is it can obtain the exact solutions directly and does not need to guess and modify the form of stress function or electric displacement function repeatedly. Firstly, the governing equation for piezoelectric plane beam is derived. The general solution for the governing equation is expressed by six unknown functions. Secondly, in terms of boundary conditions of the two longitudinal sides of the beam, six functional equations are yielded. These equations are simplified to derive the unified equations to solve the boundary value problems of piezoelectric plane beam. Finally, several examples show the correctness and generalization of this method.

        Optimal Monochromatic Imaging of Spectral Computed Tomography Potentially Improves the Quality of Hepatic Vascular Imaging

        Objective: To investigate the efficiency of spectral computed tomography (CT) optimal monochromatic images in improving imaging quality of liver vessels. Materials and Methods: The imaging data of 35 patients with abdominal CT angiography were retrospectively analyzed. Hepatic arteries, portal veins, and hepatic veins were reconstructed with mixed energy (quality check, QC), 70 keV and optimal monochromatic mode. Comparative parameters were analyzed including CT value, image noise (IN), contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and subjective qualitative analysis. Results: The optimal monochromatic value for assessment of the common hepatic artery, portal vein, and hepatic vein ranged between 49 keV and 53 keV, with a mean of 51 keV. There were statistically significant differences (p < 0.001) among the optimal monochromatic, 70 keV and QC images with regards to the hepatic vascular CT value, IN, CNR, SNR, and subjective qualitative score. CNR of the common hepatic artery in the optimal monochromatic, 70 keV and QC groups was 24.6 ± 10.9, 18.1 ± 8.3, and 11.6 ± 4.6, respectively (p < 0.001) with subjective scores of 4.7 ± 0.2, 4.0 ± 0.3, and 3.6 ± 0.4, respectively (p < 0.001). CNR of the hepatic portal vein was 6.9 ± 2.7, 4.3 ± 1.9, and 3.0 ± 2.1, respectively (p < 0.001) with subjective scores of 4.5 ± 0.3, 3.9 ± 0.4, and 3.3 ± 0.3, respectively (p < 0.001). CNR of the hepatic vein was 5.7 ± 2.3, 4.2 ± 1.9, and 2.7 ± 1.4, respectively with subjective scores of 4.3 ± 0.3, 3.8 ± 0.4, and 3.2 ± 0.3, respectively (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Optimal monochromatic images can lead to improvement in the imaging parameters and optimization of the image quality of the common hepatic artery, hepatic portal vein and hepatic vein compared with conventional mixed kV and with 70 keV datasets.

        Knockdown of Circ_0000144 Suppresses Cell Proliferation, Migration and Invasion in Gastric Cancer Via Sponging MiR-217

        Previous studies have uncovered the role of circ_0000144 in various tumors. Here, we investigated the function and mechanism of circ_0000144 in gastric cancer (GC) progression. The expression of circ_0000144 in GC tissues and cells was detected through quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) method. Gain- and loss-of-function experiments including colony formation, wound healing and transwell assays were performed to examine the role of circ_0000144 in GC cells. Furthermore, western blot was conducted to determine the expressions of epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT)-related proteins. The interaction between circ_0000144 and miR-217 was analyzed by bioinformatic analysis and luciferase reporter assays. The circ_0000144 expression was obviously upregulated in GC tissues and cells. Silencing of circ_0000144 inhibited cell proliferation, migration and invasion of GC cells, but ectopic expression of circ_0000144 showed the opposite results. Moreover, circ_0000144 sponged miR-217, and rescue assays revealed that silencing miR-217 expression reversed the inhibitory effect of circ_0000144 knockdown on the progress of GC. Our findings reveal that circ_0000144 inhibition suppresses GC cell proliferation, migration and invasion via absorbing miR-217, providing a new biomarker and potential therapeutic target for treatment of GC.

        Convolutional Neural Network with Expert Knowledge for Hyperspectral Remote Sensing Imagery Classification

        The recent interest in artificial intelligence and machine learning has partly contributed to an interest in the use of such approaches for hyperspectral remote sensing (HRS) imagery classification, as evidenced by the increasing number of deep framework with deep convolutional neural networks (CNN) structures proposed in the literature. In these approaches, the assumption of obtaining high quality deep features by using CNN is not always easy and efficient because of the complex data distribution and the limited sample size. In this paper, conventional handcrafted learning-based multi features based on expert knowledge are introduced as the input of a special designed CNN to improve the pixel description and classification performance of HRS imagery. The introduction of these handcrafted features can reduce the complexity of the original HRS data and reduce the sample requirements by eliminating redundant information and improving the starting point of deep feature training. It also provides some concise and effective features that are not readily available from direct training with CNN. Evaluations using three public HRS datasets demonstrate the utility of our proposed method in HRS classification.
