        Development and Optimization of a Rapid Colorimetric Membrane Immunoassay for Porphyromonas gingivalis

        Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis) is a major bacterial pathogen that causes periodontitis, a chronic inflammatory disease of tissues around the teeth. Periodontitis is known to be related to other diseases, such as oral cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and rheumatism. Thus, a precise and sensitive test to detect P. gingivalis is necessary for the early diagnosis of periodontitis. The objective of this study was to optimize a rapid visual detection system for P. gingivalis. First, we performed a visual membrane immunoassay using 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB; blue) and coating and detection antibodies that could bind to the host laboratory strain, ATCC 33277. Antibodies against the P. gingivalis surface adhesion molecules RgpB (arginine proteinase) and Kgp (lysine proteinase) were determined to be the most specific coating and detection antibodies, respectively. Using these two selected antibodies, the streptavidin-horseradish peroxidase (HRP) reaction was performed using a nitrocellulose membrane and visualized with a detection range of 10<sup>3</sup>-10<sup>5</sup> bacterial cells/ml following incubation for 15 min. These selected conditions were applied to test other oral bacteria, and the results showed that P. gingivalis could be detected without cross-reactivity to other bacteria, including Streptococcus mutans and Escherichia fergusonii. Furthermore, three clinical strains of P. gingivalis, KCOM 2880, KCOM 2803, and KCOM 3190, were also recognized using this optimized enzyme immunoassay (EIA) system. To conclude, we established optimized conditions for P. gingivalis detection with specificity, accuracy, and sensitivity. These results could be utilized to manufacture economical and rapid detection kits for P. gingivalis.

        <P>We present an elementary, but still quite rigorous derivation of the Clausius inequality, which sheds a new perspective on the second law. Unlike the classical approach, our derivation does not employ the Carnot cycle. The Clausius inequality follows in a straightforward way from the first law and thermodynamic stability conditions without invoking the Clausius or the Kelvin–Planck statement of the second law. The background knowledge required for this article is the same as that for the usual textbook presentation of the second law.       • Exploring the Potential of an International Student Exchange Program Based on Experiential Learning: Focusing on the APEC Edutainment Exchange Program (AEEP)

        This paper explores the APEC Edutainment Exchange Program (AEEP) as a model for international student exchange. This program has been conducted in the APEC region since 2007 to respond to the increasing international demand for youth exchange. The AEEP is based on PBL (project based learning)- oriented experiential learning, and includes multinational team activities with support systems formed by human and physical resources. Accordingly, this paper reviewed prior research on international student exchange programs and experiential learning, as well as the AEEP. While the AEEP cases reviewed here focus on the participants in the Asia-Pacific, this paper demonstrates the potential of this program to be applied to similar situations elsewhere.

        예비수학교사들의 디자인 사고(Design Thinking) 기반 교육실습 활동 경험 분석

        본 연구는 예비수학교사의 교육실습 현장수행 역량을 높이기 위해, 디자인 사고 프로세스를 활용한 대학수업과 학교 현장의 교육실습 연계형 프로그램을 운영하고 참여한 예비수학교사들의 경험을 분석하는 데 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해, 2019학년도 1학기 교육실습 대상자인 예비수학교사 8명이 참여한 대학 전공 수업에 디자인 사고 5단계 프로세스를 적용한 후, 참여자 집단 및 개별 면담 자료와 디자인 사고 활동 결과물 등 질적 자료를 수집 분석하였다. 자료 분석에 따른 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대학수업에서의 디자인 사고 1~4단계를 통해 참여자들의 인식은, 초기 에 공감 단계의 혼돈과 막연함에서 시작하였으나 시간의 흐름에 따라 프로그램 활동에 대해 보다 적극적인 변화를 보였다. 둘째, 교육실습 중, 디자인 사고의 5번째 단계인 평가단계에서는, 참여 예비수학교사들이 이전단계에서 생성한 프로토타입의 적용성을 확인하는 활동을 적극적으로 수행하였다. 다만, 일부 현장의 허용적이지 않은 상황으로 인해 프로토타입의 적용에 어려움을 가진 사례도 있었다. 셋째, 교육실습 후, 대학수업에서의 평가 및 성찰 과정에서 참여자들은 디자인 사고 활동의 필요성에 긍정적으로 공감하였다. 끝으로, 대학수업과 학교현장의 교육실습 간 융통성 있는 연결을 위해 두 영역의 긴밀한 연계가 전제될 필요가 있음이 확인되었다. The purpose of this study was to investigate the experience of pre-service mathematics teachers who attended at a university course combined with teaching practicum based on design thinking process to identify the change of their awareness of its activities. For the research, 8 pre-service mathematics teachers participated in a mathematics major course, consisting of 5 phases of design thinking formed by Stanford d.school. In the end of the course, qualitative data were collected through individual and focus group interviews and the course activities. By data analysis, the results of this study were as follows. Firstly, the participants’ perspectives of design thinking activities were changed from the difficulty and ambiguity of its activity in the beginning of the process to positiveness with competence of solving authentic problem in terms of teaching practicum over time. Secondly, the participating pre-service teachers emphasized that design thinking activities helped them prepare well teaching practicum and raise understanding of students they met in the school fields. Thirdly, some research participants went through the difficulty in utilizing their products drawn from 4th phase (prototyping) of design thinking process depending on the acceptance of their guidance teachers. Fourthly, the research participants also pointed out that the design thinking was a significant activity in that they learned how to understand and communicate with their students and how to collaborate with team members and it gave an insight about the preparation for a class. Through these results, this study identified the possibility of using the design thinking process for pre-service mathematics teachers’ teaching practicum. In addition, the research put forward some implications for better use of design thinking in teacher education.

        The goal of this paper was to present the method of enhancement of learning attitude and learning ability to the basic engineering subjects. The students who participated in this study showed high confidence of their major and career. Our study showed the improvement the quality of education and the competitiveness of university.

        예비교사들의 디자인사고 기반 문제해결 프로젝트 수행 경험 분석

        The purpose of this study was to identify the effectiveness of a problem-solving project based on design thinking process for pre-service teachers and the change of their awareness of its activities. To achieve this, 54 pre-service teachers in a university participated in a design thing process based course, consisting of 5 stages proposed by the Stanford d.school. In before and after the class, the pre and post-tests using a personal problem-solving inventory (PSI) constructed by Heppner and Petersen (1982) were conducted. In addition to these tests, the deep interview with 6 participants randomly selected were implemented after project. The results of this study were as follows. Firstly, the design thinking process based project did not significantly effect the increase of pre-service teachers’ problem-solving ability in general. However, the personal control among three sub-categories of PSI was significantly increased. Secondly, through the deep interview, this study found that the participants felt the difficulty in conducting the project at first, but they gradually flew into the project with enjoyment and positive impression. Lastly, this study provided several implications for future relevant research. 본 연구의 목적은 사범대학 예비교사들을 대상으로 디자인사고 프로세스에 따라 창의적 문제해결 프로젝트를 진행하고 활동 참여자들의 문제해결능력 증진 정도와 활동에 대한 인식을 분석하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 2018년 2학기 교직과목 강좌에 참여한 1학년 학생 50명을 대상으로 11월 3주간 각 팀이 자율적으로 선정한 교육 이슈해결방안 도출 중심의 활동을 수행하도록 하였다. 문제해결 프로젝트 활동은 스탠포드 디자인스쿨의 5단계 디자인사고 프로세스에 따라 진행되었으며, 활동 사전·후에 문제해결력 검사를 실시하고 사후에 참여했던 학생들을 대상으로 인터뷰를 추가적으로 실시하였다. 문제해결능력 검사결과, 참여자들의 문제해결 자신감(problem-solving confidence)과 접근회피 스타일(approach avoidance style)은 프로젝트 수행 전후 간 유의미한 차이가 발견되지 않았으나, 자기통제(personal control)는 프로젝트 수행 전보다 유의미하게 높아진 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 양적 자료분석 결과를 뒷받침하기 위해 수행된 사후 인터뷰에서, 예비교사들은 이론만으로 알던 문제해결 활동을 수행하는데 따른 부담감과 아이디어를 내는데 익숙하지 않아 활동초기에 혼란을 가졌으나 이후 아이디어 구현 단계인 시제품을 만드는(prototyping) 과정에서 활동을 즐겼으며 결과적으로 디자인사고 활동에 대한 긍정적인 인상을 가졌던 것으로 분석되었다. 마지막으로 양적, 질적 자료 분석을 근거로 몇 가지 연구의 함의점을 제시하였다.

        중학생 대상 체험학습 국내 연구동향 분석

        본 연구는 중학생 대상의 체험학습에 대한 국내 연구동향을 분석하여 현재의 그 경향을 파악하고 미래의 발전과제를 모색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해, 국내 발행 한국연구재단 등재 및 등재 후보 학술지에 게재된 논문 중, 1993년부터 2013년까지 출간 된 중학생(교) 대상 체험학습 관련 논문 총 111편을 대상으로 본 연구에서 마련한 다섯 가지 분석 준거에 따라 연구동향을 분석하였다. 주요 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 연구목적 측면에서, 체험학습 이론 및 방법론 개발에 대한 이론적 연구가 가장많았다. 둘째, 연구주제에서는 체험학습 방법 및 모형 구안에 대한 연구가 많은 비중을 차지하였으나 체험학습의 평가도구 개발과 적용 연구는 미미하였다. 셋째, 체 험학습 유형과 관련하여, 교과연계형에서는 기술․가정, 사회과가 높은 비율을 차지하였고, 교실 밖 체험에서는 문화 및 역사와 사회 체험이 높은 빈도를 보였다. 넷째,활동내용과 관련해서는 실습 활동에 편중현상이 나타났다. 다섯째, 연구방법 측면에 서는 양적연구와 문헌연구가 가장 많이 활용된 것으로 드러났다. 연구결과에 따라 본 연구는 향후 연구 과제로, 체험학습에 대한 이론과 방법론 소개 및 논의 확대, 체험학습을 위한 평가도구 개발 확대, 다양한 교과 영역에서의 체험학습 활성화, 체험 학습 활동내용의 다양화, 질적연구 및 혼합연구 활성화 등을 제시하였다. The purpose of this study was to analyze trends in research involving experiential learning applied to middle school students and to suggest future directions for research on experiential learning. Towards this end, 111 research articles related to experiential learning published in Korea from 1993 to 2013 were analyzed according to the following analysis criteria: research purposes; themes; experiential learning categories covering curriculum subjects and types of experiential learning outside classroom; types of experiential learning activities; and research methodologies. Analysis of the articles produced the following results: First, in terms of research purpose, the most frequently shown concerned the development of experiential learning theories and methodologies. Second, with respect to research themes, studies on the formulation of experiential learning methodologies and models ranked high among the analyzed articles. Third, with regard to experiential learning categories, ‘Technology/Home Economics’ and ‘Social Studies’ were the curriculum subjects that most frequently employed experiential learning. Also, ‘culture and history’ and ‘social’ experiences ranked high as types of experience outside the classroom. Fourth, in terms of types of experiential learning activities, ‘practice’, including operating, making, testing, and physically exercising, showed high frequency. Fifth, in the aspect of research methodology, most of the research used quantitative research methodology and literature reviews. According to these results, the following future research directions for experiential learning are suggested and discussed: expansion of introduction and discussion of experiential learning theory and methodology; development of evaluation methods; vitalization of experiential learning in various curriculum subjects; diversification of activity types; greater balance between qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
