Goldman Sachs recently laid off 598 top talents, while Google and NASA established a singularity university. As we enter the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, each company and university is nurturing talent for the age of artificial intelligence(AI). As factories and various facilities are automated and AI and the Internet of Things (IoT) enter homes and businesses, interest in automation is gradually increasing, and AI robots are replacing human jobs. Therefore, a study was conducted on the implementation of a sorting robot for smart factory automation. The hardware of the robot was realized using TETRIX, and it was configured to recognize the color of blocks and classify the object using NXT color sensors. The color sensor is used to determine the type of a block and a linetracer is to help figure out location, and the block was placed in the right place. The control program was implemented using LabVIEW, and the NXT was implemented to control the robot through the signal obtained from the color sensor.

( Sang Hoon Ahn ),( Won Hyeok Choe ),( Yoon Jun Kim ),( Jeong Heo ),( Dorota Latarska-smuga ),( Jiho Kang ),( Seung Woon Paik ) 대한간학회 2017 춘·추계 학술대회 (KASL) Vol.2017 No.1

Aims: Chronic Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infection increases the risk for progressive liver disease, hepatocellular carcinoma and negatively impacts the patient’s quality of life. HCV treatment is evolving with direct acting antivirals but IFN based therapy has been the standard of care for many years and remains available in some countries. The MOSAIC study aims to characterize patients with chronic HCV infection and assess the impact of IFN-containing treatment on health-related quality of life, work related productivity and health care utilization. Methods: MOSAIC is an international prospective multicenter observational study that has been conducted in 20 countries. Consecutive patients with chronic HCV infection were enrolled and those who initiated an IFN based regimen were prospectively followed for 48 weeks. We report results from the Korean cohort Results: 100 patients were enrolled: 86 were treatment naïve and 14 were treatment experienced. 33 patients initiated an IFN based regimen: 6 patients started IFN + RBV, 26 patients started Peg-IFN + RBV, none started Peg-IFN + RBV + DAA and 1 patient received other treatment. Among the treated cohort, demographic and disease characteristics were the following: the mean age was 54.5 years; 14 patients were male. 14 had minimal or no fibrosis, 2 portal fibrosis, 3 bridging fibrosis and 6 patients suffered from cirrhosis. HCV Genotype distribution was as follows: genotype 1: 11; genotype 2: 19 and genotype 3: 3. Table 1 describes the results at baseline and changes over 4, 12 and 48 weeks and end-of-treatment (EOT) for the quality of life and work productivity outcome measures (EQ-5D-5L, HCV-PRO and WPAI). Conclusions: Results from the Korean cohort of the MOSAIC study show a moderate trend for deterioration of health-related quality of life and work productivity associated with IFN based treatment for patients with chronic HCV infection during treatment period. Kim, Gyungock,Park, Jeong Woo,Kim, In Gyoo,Kim, Sanghoon,Kim, Sanggi,Lee, Jong Moo,Park, Gun Sik,Joo, Jiho,Jang, Ki-Seok,Oh, Jin Hyuk,Kim, Sun Ae,Kim, Jong Hoon,Lee, Jun Young,Park, Jong Moon,Kim, Do- Optical Society of America 2011 Optics express Vol.19 No.27

<P>We present high performance silicon photonic circuits (PICs) defined for off-chip or on-chip photonic interconnects, where PN depletion Mach-Zehnder modulators and evanescent-coupled waveguide Ge-on-Si photodetectors were monolithically integrated on an SOI wafer with CMOS-compatible process. The fabricated silicon PIC(off-chip) for off-chip optical interconnects showed operation up to 30 Gb/s. Under differential drive of low-voltage 1.2 V(pp), the integrated 1 mm-phase-shifter modulator in the PIC(off-chip) demonstrated an extinction ratio (ER) of 10.5dB for 12.5 Gb/s, an ER of 9.1dB for 20 Gb/s, and an ER of 7.2 dB for 30 Gb/s operation, without adoption of travelling-wave electrodes. The device showed the modulation efficiency of V(π)L(π) ~1.59 Vcm, and the phase-shifter loss of 3.2 dB/mm for maximum optical transmission. The Ge photodetector, which allows simpler integration process based on reduced pressure chemical vapor deposition exhibited operation over 30 Gb/s with a low dark current of 700 nA at -1V. The fabricated silicon PIC(intra-chip) for on-chip (intra-chip) photonic interconnects, where the monolithically integrated modulator and Ge photodetector were connected by a silicon waveguide on the same chip, showed on-chip data transmissions up to 20 Gb/s, indicating potential application in future silicon on-chip optical network. We also report the performance of the hybrid silicon electronic-photonic IC (EPIC), where a PIC(intra-chip) chip and 0.13μm CMOS interface IC chips were hybrid-integrated.</P>

Neoadjuvant intra-arterial chemotherapy combined with radiotherapy and surgery in patients with advanced maxillary sinus cancer

Kim, Won Taek,Nam, Jiho,Ki, Yong Kan,Lee, Ju Hye,Kim, Dong Hyun,Park, Dahl,Cho, Kyu Sup,Roh, Hwan Jung,Kim, Dong Won The Korean Society for Radiation Oncology 2013 Radiation Oncology Journal Vol.31 No.3

Purpose: The optimal treatment of advanced maxillary sinus cancer has been challenging for several decades. Intra-arterial chemotherapy (IAC) for head and neck cancer has been controversial. We have analyzed the long-term outcome of neoadjuvant IAC followed by radiation therapy (RT) and surgery. Materials and Methods: Twenty-seven patients with advanced maxillary sinus cancer were treated between 1989 and 2002. Five-fluorouracil (5-FU, $500mg/m^2$) was infused intra-arterially, and followed by RT (total 50.4 Gy/28 fractions). A planned surgery was performed 3 to 4 weeks after completion of IAC and RT. Results: At a median follow-up of 77 months (range, 12 to 169 months), the 5-year rates of overall survival in all patients were 63%. The 5-year rates of overall survival of stage T3/T4 patients were 70.0% and 58.8%, respectively. Seven of fourteen patients with disease recurrence had a local recurrence alone. The 5-year actuarial local control rates in patients with stage T3/T4, and in all patients were 20.0%, 32.3%, and 27.4%, respectively. Overall response rate after the completion of IAC and RT was 70.3%. During the follow-up, seven patients (25.9%) showed mild to moderate late complications. The tumor extent (i.e., the involvement of either orbit and/or base of skull) appeared to be related with local recurrence. Conclusion: Neoadjuvant IAC with 5-FU followed by RT and surgery may be effective to improve local tumor control in the patients with advanced maxillary sinus cancer. However, local failure was still the major cause of death. Further investigations are required to determine the optimal treatment schedule, radiotherapy techniques and chemotherapy regimens.

Utility of split-VMAT for cardiac protection during left breast cancer radiotherapy

        Kim Dong Woon,Jeon Hosang,Ki Yongkan,Joo Ji Hyeon,Kim Wontaek,Kim Donghyeon,Park Dahl,Nam Jiho 한국물리학회 2023 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.83 No.5

The feld-in-feld technique of three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT) is a common treatment technique used in breast radiation therapy. However, when the heart is largely included in the treatment feld for the treatment of left breast cancer, it is unavoidable that a large dose will impact the heart. Increases in the mean dose and the maximum dose to the heart increase the hazard ratio for ischemic heart disease. Split-VMAT is a technique that combines tangential feld and volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) methods using multiple small partial arcs. Split-VMAT can reduce the maximum dose to the heart and while ensuring target coverage. In this study, we sought to confrm the utility of split-VMAT for patients with left breast cancer whose heart is more than 1 cm inside the treatment feld. The split-VMAT plan consisted of 4 felds, set at 20–60° per feld, and the treatment time was limited to less than 20 s to enable deep-inspiration breath hold (DIBH). A half-VMAT, consisting of an arc of 180° and a feld-in-feld approach, using 2 tangential felds symmetrical to each other, were used as comparison groups. In addition, the feld-in-feld technique was divided into 2 types, 1 that emphasized target coverage and the other that focused on heart protection. For treatment, an Elekta Versa HD linear accelerator was used, and treatment planning was performed using Elekta Monaco software. Both split-VMAT and feld-in-feld, focused on target coverage achieved better (>3%) target coverage. However, in feld-in-feld, focused on target coverage, the maximum dose to the heart was very high. Compared to the both feld-in-feld-based technique, the average dose to the lungs was about twice as high in the both VMAT-based technique. In addition, the treatment time per feld was increased by about 5 s, and the total treatment time was more than doubled. The 3D-CRT feld-in-feld technique can signifcantly protect organs at risk (OARs) not included in the radiation feld because the gantry is not directed to inside the body. However, if the heart is, the OAR, it may be exposed to high radiation doses. The split-VMAT limits the angle of the arc, constraining the beam directed inside the patient's body, and shortens the treatment time to allow DIBH. In addition, since sufcient target coverage and heart protection are possible, split-VMAT can be a compromise between 3D-CRT, intensity-modulation radiotherapy, and conventional VMAT.

Effects of the Particulate Matter2.5 (PM2.5) on Lipoprotein Metabolism, Uptake and Degradation, and Embryo Toxicity

        Kim, Jae-Yong,Lee, Eun-Young,Choi, Inho,Kim, Jihoe,Cho, Kyung-Hyun Korean Society for Molecular and Cellular Biology 2015 Molecules and cells Vol.38 No.12

Particulate $matter_{2.5}$ ($PM_{2.5}$) is notorious for its strong toxic effects on the cardiovascular, skin, nervous, and reproduction systems. However, the molecular mechanism by which $PM_{2.5}$ aggravates disease progression is poorly understood, especially in a water-soluble state. In the current study, we investigated the putative physiological effects of aqueous $PM_{2.5}$ solution on lipoprotein metabolism. Collected $PM_{2.5}$ from Seoul, Korea was dissolved in water, and the water extract (final 3 and 30 ppm) was treated to human serum lipoproteins, macrophages, and dermal cells. $PM_{2.5}$ extract resulted in degradation and aggregation of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) as well as low-density lipoprotein (LDL); apoA-I in HDL aggregated and apo-B in LDL disappeared. $PM_{2.5}$ treatment (final 30 ppm) also induced cellular uptake of oxidized LDL (oxLDL) into macrophages, especially in the presence of fructose (final 50 mM). Uptake of oxLDL along with production of reactive oxygen species was accelerated by $PM_{2.5}$ solution in a dose-dependent manner. Further, $PM_{2.5}$ solution caused cellular senescence in human dermal fibroblast cells. Microinjection of $PM_{2.5}$ solution into zebrafish embryos induced severe mortality accompanied by impairment of skeletal development. In conclusion, water extract of $PM_{2.5}$ induced oxidative stress as a precursor to cardiovascular toxicity, skin cell senescence, and embryonic toxicity via aggregation and proteolytic degradation of serum lipoproteins.

      • Differentiating between Aphasic and Nonaphasic Stroke Patients Using Semantic Verbal Fluency Measures with Administration Time of 30 Seconds

        Kim, HyangHee,Kim, JungWan,Kim, Deog Young,Heo, JiHoe S. Karger AG 2011 European neurology Vol.65 No.2

<P>Administration time of 1 min for semantic verbal fluency measures can be overly long and therefore bothersome for aphasic patients because they can often retrieve only a few items after a certain period of time. The purpose of this study was to determine whether an administration time of 30 s would be more efficient in differentiating among aphasics, nonaphasic stroke patients, and normal controls. The subjects were 53 stroke patients and 28 normal controls. They had to generate as many animal names as they could within a given time. The number of animal names is gradually diminished in three groups (p < 0.001) in each time frame, that is, during the entire 60 s, the initial 30 s, and the following 30 s. The reaction time (RT) measure indicated that the RT of the aphasic patients was significantly increased compared to those of the other two groups (p < 0.001). The most optimal cutoff scores that differentiated each group are presented. These results suggest that an administration time of 30 s has discriminative validity to differentiate between the two patient groups. This shorter administration time could make the test more efficient by reducing the burden on both examiners and aphasic patients.</P><P>Copyright © 2011 S. Karger AG, Basel</P>

Long-term stability study of graphene-passivated black phosphorus under air exposure

        Jiho Kim,Seung Kwan Baek,Keun-Soo Kim,Young Jun Chang,E.J. Choi 한국물리학회 2016 Current Applied Physics Vol.16 No.2

We use the graphene as a passivation layer to protect the black phosphorus from chemical reaction with air. Flakes of the black phosphorus crystal are covered by N ¼ 1, 2, and 3 layers of CVD graphene and the Raman phonon modes are measured after the samples are exposed to air. For the double and triple layer passivation (N ¼ 2,3) the Raman phonon peaks are maintained as long as ~100 h (4 days) before the phonon intensity is reduced to 90% of the initial strength, I/I0 ¼ 0.9, demonstrating that the black phosphorus is strongly protected in contrast to the rapid degradation of the bare and single-layer covered black phosphorus. The long term stability achieved by multi-layer graphene passivation makes it possible to perform various electronic and optical experiments aimed for device application of this direct-gap van der Waals semiconductor with high electronic and thermal mobility under ambient environment.
