The purpose of this study was to survey the change of environmental awareness of elementary school students under the longitudinal-sectional research design. For this study, the questionnaire was used for 599 fifth and sixth grade students living in Seoul, Anseong, and Yangjugun. The results of this survey, compared and analyzed with those of 1987, 1992, 1996, and 2000, were summarized as follows: In the point of environmental awareness, the interest for animal protection and conservation of nature increase but the interest for environmental pollution decreased. There was a high awareness about water pollution, and the awareness about the exhaust of automobile was constantly increasing. Regarding students' knowledge about the environment, their attitudes, and changes of practice, the rate of interest for environmental pollution decreased but the rate of interest for animal protection and conservation of nature increased. As a result of this study, it was found that the students' awareness about the environment varied according to the survey year. By changing the environment education according to this variation, it can be possible to effectively teach students to increase their environmental awareness and develop a habit of environmental protection.

To examine the following day party and the following evening party in the Man Kyong Jeon, the authors studied "Jin Chan Eui Gue", which is a historical reoord published in 1887(King Go-Jong). The results obtained from the study were as follows, 1.There were fixed arranging tables(22) and taking-away tables in the dining table of the following day party. 2.There were fixed arranging tables(5) and taking-away tables in the dining table of the following evening party. 3.Food and flowers were distributed to the 390 attendants in the following day party. 4.There were no distribution of food and flowers to the attendants in the following evening party. 5.Arrangements of the followings day party and following evening party were the same as those of the main party. 6.The arranged seat of the King, Go-Jung was facing the south. 7.According to the status or class of the attendant, the pattern or size of table settings were differentiated in the kinds of food, heights of food, table flowers, chinaware etc. 8.1n the arrangements of tables for the King, the heights of food on the dishes were as following levels, 1 dish : 1 chok(1尺) 6 dishes : 8 chon(8寸) 4 dishes : 7 chon(7寸)

<P>Clasmatodendrosis is an irreversible astroglial degenerative change, which includes extensive swelling and vacuolization of cell bodies and disintegrated and beaded processes. This study was designed to elucidate whether clasmatodendrosis may be one of the autophagy-related degeneration of astrocytes. In this study, clasmatodendritic astrocytes were observed only in the stratum radiatum in the CA1 region. Vacuoles in clasmatodendritic astrocytes showed LAMP-1 immunoreactivity. In addition, both LC3-II and Beclin-1 expression were detected in most of clasmatodendritic astrocytes as well as a few non-vacuolized astrocytes. Clasmatodendritic astrocytes also showed p65/RelA-Ser529 phosphorylation in the nuclei. The neutralization of TNF-α by sTNFp55R infusion reduced clasmatodendritic astrocytes with nuclear p65/RelA-Ser529 phosphorylation. Therefore, these findings suggest that clasmatodendrosis may be autophagic astroglial death in response to epileptic seizures through TNF-α-mediated p65/RelA-Ser529 phosphorylation.</P>

<P>Transient receptor potential canonical channel (TRPC) is a nonselective cation channel permeable to Ca(2+), which express in many cell types, including neurons. However the alterations in TRPC receptor expressions in response to status epilepticus (SE) have not been explored. Therefore, the present study was designated to elucidate the roles of TRPC3 in neuronal death and vasogenic edema within the rat piriform cortex (PC) following SE. In non-SE animals, TRPC3 immunoreactivity was abundantly detected in the PC. Following SE, TRPC3 immunoreactivity was increased in neurons. Furthermore, TRPC3 expression was detected in endothelial cells that did not contain it in non-SE animals. Loss of SMI-71 (a blood-brain barrier antigen) immunoreactivity was also observed in TRPC3 positive endothelial cells. In addition, FJB positive neurons and vasogenic edema were noticeably detected in the PC. To directly determine whether TRPC3 activation is correlated to SE-induced vasogenic edema formation and neuronal damages in the PC, the effect of Pyr-3 (a TRPC3 antagonist) on SE-induced insults were investigated. Pyr-3 infusion effectively attenuated vasogenic edema in the PC as compared to the vehicle. Therefore, our findings indicate that TRPC3 activation/overexpression induced by SE may involve BBB disruption and neuronal damages in the rat PC following SE. Therefore, the present study was TRPC3 may play an important role in SE-induced vasogenic edema formation through BBB disruptions in the rat PC.</P>
Transduced PEP-1-Grb7 Fusion Protein Suppressed LPS-induced COX-2 Expression

Although the incidence and severity of atopic dermatitis (AD) is steadily increasing at an alarming rate, its pathogenic mechanisms remain poorly understood yet. Recently, we found that the expression of Grb7 protein was markedly decreased in AD patients using proteomic analysis. In the present study, human Grb7 gene was fused with PEP-1 peptide in a bacterial expression vector to produce a genetic in-frame PEP-1-Grb7 fusion protein. The expressed and purified PEP-1-Grb7 fusion proteins transduced efficiently into skin cells in a time- and dose-dependent manner when added exogenously in culture media. Once inside the cells, the transduced PEP-1-Grb7 protein was stable for 48 h. In addition, transduced PEP-1-Grb7 fusion protein markedly increased cell viability in macrophage RAW 264.7 cells treated with LPS by inhibition of the COX-2 expression level. These results suggest that the PEP-1-Grb7 fusion protein can be used in protein therapy for inflammatory skin disorders, including AD.
Synthesis and Antifungal Activity of 6-Arylthio-/6-Arylamino-4,7-dioxobenzothiazoles

6-Arylthio-/6-arylamino-4,7-dioxobenzothiazoles were synthesized and tested for in vitro antifungal activity against Candida species and Aspergillus niger. 6-Arylamino-4,7-dioxobenzothiazoles 5 and 6 showed, in general, more potent antifungal activity than 6-arylthio-4,7-dioxobenzothiazoles 3 and 4. The 6-arylamino-substituted compounds 5 and 6 exhibited the greatest activity. In contrast, 6-arylthio-, 2-/5-methyl- or 5-methoxy-moieties of compounds 3-4 did not improve their antifungal activity significantly. The results of this study suggest that 6-arylamino-4,7-dioxobenzothiazoles would be potent antifungal agents.
