<P>This paper presents a novel, compact, low-insertion-loss, sharp-rejection, wideband microstrip bandpass filter. The filter is based on a ring resonator with direct-connected orthogonal feed lines, and uses two stepped-impedance open stubs to construct a wideband passband with two sharp stopbands. The unit cell of the ring resonators is easily cascaded and also has the feature of a compact structure. The filter is designed to reduce interference in full-duplex systems for satellite communications. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This study used photochemical reduction to successfully synthesize triangular silver nanoplates (TAgNPs)and silver nanodecahedrons (AgNDs) with higher light-absorption and higher light-scattering properties,respectively, for the same wavelength. To analyze the contribution of light-absorption and lightscatteringof silver nanoparticles to the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate was doped with TAgNPs or AgNDs at the same concentration(1.17 lg/cm2) and made into polymer light-emitting diodes (PLEDs). According to the current densityvoltageluminancecharacteristics and electroluminescence (EL) spectra, the enhancement factors for currentefficiency and EL intensity for AgND-containing PLEDs were found to be higher than those for PLEDwith TAgNPs by 24.9% and 138%, respectively. This shows that the metal nanoparticles with higher lightscatteringproperty can induce a relatively strong LSPR effect, which possibly gives a hint to design plasmonicphotovoltaic in future.

To realize a portable, capillary-driven, and parallelized microfluidic chip, how to evenly distribute a liquid plug from the inlet to multiple daughter microchannels is a challenging task. Two approaches were adopted to generate sufficient capillary pressure to allow a liquid plug spontaneously flowing through bifurcation features, including enlarging the contact perimeter between the liquid plug and microchannel walls and applying hydrophilic coating to the microchannel walls. A 1-to-2 bifurcation microfluidic chip and a 1-to-4 bifurcation microfluidic chip were designed and fabricated on PMMA substrates for experiments. Initially red food dye was used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the chips, and experiment results revealed that the 1-to-2 microfluidic chip is capable of 100% liquid splitting efficiency with a CV of 5.7% whereas the 1-to-4 microfluidic chip is capable of 83% liquid splitting efficiency with a CV of 6.7%. After successfully conducting experiments with red food dye, human whole blood and blood plasma were introduced into the 1-to-2 microfluidic chips and splitting efficiency was investigated. The experiment results showed a 33% and 67% splitting efficiency for human whole blood and blood plasma, respectively. And the lower splitting efficiency can be attributed to the complex and Non-Newtonian fluidic property of the blood.

Purpose: To perform a retrospective review of the clinicopathological features of patients with conventional and non-conventional renal cell carcinoma (cRCC and ncRCC). Materials and Methods: A large prospectively maintained uro-oncological registry was accessed to extract clinicopathological data of patients diagnosed with renal tumors who subsequently underwent nephrectomy from 1990–2019. Demographics and operative parameters were extracted. Analyses of overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) were performed using the Kaplan–Meier method. Cox proportional-hazards analysis was used to identify risk factors which influenced survival. Results: There were a total of 1,686 consecutive nephrectomies which was retrieved, with 1,286 cRCC and 400 ncRCC. The commonest ncRCC subtypes were papillary (n=198, 11.7%), clear cell papillary (n=50, 3.0%) and chromophobe (n=49, 2.9%) RCC. Kaplan–Meier estimates of OS were higher in cRCC (0.74; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.71–0.78) than ncRCC (hazard ratio, 1.47; 95% CI, 1.16–1.87). Among individual subtypes, chromophobe RCC had the highest 5-year OS (0.90; 95% CI, 0.79–1.0). Among ncRCC subtypes, acquired cystic RCC demonstrated the highest association with end-stage renal failure and hypertension, with the highest CSS. MiT family translocation RCC had the youngest mean age at presentation (45.6±12.8 y) and excellent CSS. Factors associated with increased OS in the entire cohort included shorter operative time, partial nephrectomy and lower tumor stages. Conclusions: This study provides a comprehensive contemporary overview of ncRCCs which are yet poorly characterized, in comparison to cRCCs. Data from this study would contribute towards tailored patient counseling and healthcare resource planning.
