    An Analysis of Intellectual Structure in the Field of Korean Art Therapy Studies
    - Centering on Author Co-citation Analysis and Author Bibliographic Coupling Analysis -

    Abstract

    The purpose of this study is to grasp not only the traditional intellectual structure but also the recent research tendency, and a key researcher, who is recently active in the research activity, and is further to understand the transitional process of research topic according to a change in the times, through the author co-citation analysis and the author bibliographic coupling analysis.
    The analytical subjects were analyzed by collecting the theses, which had been recorded until 2011 in the first issue of 『Research of Art Therapy』for Korean Art Therapy Association and『Journal of Korea Arts Therapy Institute』for Korea Arts Therapy Institute, additionally the theses, which were recorded as art therapy in the registered academic journals(registration candidates included) of National Research Foundation of Korea, and the bibliographies in the references. It selected 35 authors with over 7 times in the cited for the author co-citation analysis and 28 authors in high rank with over 4 times in contribution frequency for the author bibliographic coupling analysis. It visualized the author cluster with author map by using the cluster analysis and multi-dimensional scaling, which are the techniques of multi-variate analysis based on Pearson correlation coefficient matrix. It grasped the intellectual structure in the field of the art therapy studies for about 20 years by designating the detailed thematic sphere in the art therapy field through the author cluster, which was shown by the analytical results with the use of two analytical techniques, analyzed difference in intellectual structure by comparing the results of two analytical techniques, and examined the transitional process of research topic according to historical change.
    Summarizing the findings, they are as follows. First, the key authors whose cited frequency is high in the intellectual structure of the art therapy studies through the author co-citation analysis are 35 people. Among these authors, 5 people whose cited frequency is the highest were indicated to be Kim Dong-yeon, Choe Oe-seon, Lee Geun-mae, Choe Seon-nam, and Jeong Hyeon-hui. The clustering tendency of the intellectual structure in the art therapy studies was divided into five clusters such as a research of process performance, a case study, a research of therapeutic process, a research of therapeutic performance, and a research of developing test and scale. Strong cluster and weak cluster were formed within cluster. Second, the key authors whose cited frequency is high in the intellectual structure of the art therapy studies through the author bibliographic coupling analysis are 28 people. They were indicated to be in order of Kim Dong-yeon, Choe Oe-seon, Lee Geun-mae, Choe Seon-nam, and Jeong Hyeon-hui. The author pair whose citation frequency is high in the cosine similarity matrix was indicated to be Kim Dong-yeon and Kim Gap-suk. The author pair whose similarity is high can be analyzed to research into the same or similar thematic field. Third, as for the results that compared the author co-citation analysis and the author bibliographic coupling analysis, it compared the intellectual structure of research topic(research theme, research subjects, research type, research contents, detailed research, etc.) and compared the intellectual structure based on the overlapping and non-overlapping authoring portions. The comparison of research topic was grasped the fields such as a research of therapeutic process and performance, a case study, a research of therapeutic process, and a research of therapeutic performance as the research themes based on the results of author co-citation analysis. It was indicated to be same even in the findings of the author bibliographic coupling analysis. Also, the authors, who are not indicated to be overlapped in the author co-citation analysis among 29 authors who were shown in the author bibliographic coupling analysis, are 12 people. These authors can be analyzed to be new researchers who briskly began research activity relatively recently. Fourth, the key authors before the year in 2000 are 13 people and were indicated to be strong in the field of therapeutic process research. The key authors after the year in 2000 are 36 people and were indicated to be strong in the fields of the therapeutic process & performance research and the therapeutic performance research. The transitional process of intellectual structure for 20 years in art therapy could be known.
    In light of these findings, the intellectual structure was analyzed in the academic thematic sphere in the field of art therapy studies and in actual researchers' research tendency.
    In addition, the limitations of the study and possible follow-up projects are proposed in the conclusion section.
