한국 대학생의 진로타협과 진로관련 심리적 변인과의 관계 : 진로태도성숙, 자기효능감, 진로준비행동, 개인주의-집합주의성향을 중심으로 = (The) Relationship between Career Compromise and Career-related Psychological Variables among Korean College Students : Focused on Career Attitude Maturity, Self-Efficacy, Career Preparation Behavior, and Individualism-Collectivism.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 진로의사결정과정에서 나타나는 타협의 심리적 특성을 규명하고, 이러한 특성이 개인주의-집합주의성향에 따라 다르게 나타나는가를 확인하는 것이었다. 진로타협의 심리적 특성은 타협의 중요한 요인인 지위타협과 흥미타협의 관계를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 그리고 이들 타협요인이 태도· 인지· 행동적 측면에서 어떤 특성을 나타내는지를 살펴보고자 세 측면을 대표하는 변인으로서 진로태도성숙, 자기효능감, 진로준비행동을 상정하여 이들과 관련되는 양상을 살펴보았다. 그리고 진로타협의 심리적 특성이 사회문화적 특성에 의해 달라지는지를 검증하고자 개인적 수준의 문화성향을 대표하는 개인주의-집합주의성향을 상정하여 개인주의-집합주의성향과 타협, 진로관련 심리적 변인들 간의 관계를 살펴보았다.
연구 대상은 졸업과 취업에 임박하여 실제 타협경험을 가지고 있을 가능성이 높은 대학교 3, 4학년 재학생 450명을 대상으로 설문을 실시하였고, 수거된 설문지 가운데 416명의 자료가 최종적으로 분석되었다. 설문은 진로타협, 진로태도성숙, 자기효능감, 진로준비행동, 개인주의-집합주의성향에 대한 내용으로 구성되었다.
연구 결과, 지위타협과 흥미타협의 관계는 정적 상관을 나타내었고, 진로태도성숙, 자기효능감, 진로준비행동 등의 심리적 특성과 두 타협요인 간에는 모두 부적 상관이 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 그리고 두 타협요인은 진로태도성숙 및 자기효능감의 하위요인들과 각기 다르게 관련되어 있음이 확인되었다. 따라서 진로결정과정에서 지위를 타협하는 경향이 높을수록 흥미를 타협하려는 경향도 함께 높아짐이 밝혀졌고, 타협하려는 경향은 부정적인 심리적 특성들을 내포하는 것이며, 태도와 인지의 측면에서 지위타협과 흥미타협의 관련요인이 다르다는 것이 확인되었다.
지위타협과 흥미타협의 관련요인이 다름이 확인됨에 따라 타협의 효과가 진로태도성숙, 자기효능감 수준에 따라 달라질 수 있는지를 추가로 확인하였다. 이를 검증하기 위해 지위타협과 흥미타협의 어느 한 측면이 두드러지는 집단을 대상으로 진로태도성숙과 자기효능감 수준을 달리하였을 때 진로준비행동에 차이가 나타나는지를 확인하였다. 그 결과 진로태도성숙의 확신성요인과 자기효능감이 타협요인과 진로준비행동의 관계를 조절하는 조절효과를 가지는 것으로 확인되었다. 그리고 이러한 효과는 지위타협군보다는 흥미타협군에서 더 큰 것으로 나타났다.
다음으로 진로타협과 개인주의-집합주의성향의 관계를 규명하기 위해 타협요인과 개인주의-집합주의성향간 상관을 분석한 결과 이들 간에는 유의한 상관이 없는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 개인주의-집합주의성향은 진로태도성숙, 자기효능감, 진로준비행동과 모두 유의한 정적 상관을 보여 개인주의-집합주의성향과 진로 영역의 관련성이 확인되었다.
개인주의-집합주의성향과 진로 영역의 관련성이 확인됨에 따라 개인주의-집합주의성향이 타협요인과 진로관련 변인의 관계를 조절하는 효과가 있는지 검증하고자, 개인주의성향이 두드러진 집단과 집합주의성향이 두드러진 집단을 대상으로 두 타협요인이 진로관련 변인들과 관련되는 양상을 상관분석을 통해 검증하였다. 분석 결과 개인주의집단과 집합주의집단의 지위타협과 흥미타협은 진로태도성숙, 자기효능감, 진로준비행동과 관련되는 양상에 차이가 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 개인주의집단과 집합주의집단의 지위타협과 흥미타협은 진로태도성숙과 자기효능감의 하위요인과 관련되는 양상에서도 차이가 있음이 확인되었다.
본 연구는 그동안의 타협연구에서 간과해온 진로타협의 심리적 특성을 지위타협과 흥미타협의 관계를 중심으로 태도, 인지, 행동의 세 측면에서 규명하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 또한 타협요인과 제반 심리적 변인들과의 관계에서 개인주의집단과 집합주의집단 간에 다소 차이가 나타남을 확인함으로써 개인주의와 집단주의의 문화적 배경이 타협에 미치는 영향력을 규명하였다는 점에서 또 다른 의의를 찾을 수 있다. 성숙된 자아의 개념이라는 것이 동서양의 문화적인 배경의 차이에서 서로 다르게 나타날 수 있다는 이론가들의 견해에도 불구하고, 문화적 차이가 실제 진로성숙과정과 결과에 영향을 줄 수 있음을 직접적으로 검증한 연구가 없었던 만큼 본 연구가 타협과 관련된 심리적 특성과 개인주의-집합주의성향의 관계를 검증한 것은 타협연구에서뿐 아니라 그동안의 진로관련 연구들이 논의수준에서만 그쳤던 사회문화적 차이를 경험적으로 검증하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
본 연구의 결과를 중심으로 논의에서는 타협요인과 효능감 수준에 따른 차별적인 상담전략의 필요성과 진로타협의 문제를 그가 처한 사회문화적, 상황적 맥락에서 이해하는 것의 중요성을 제안하고, 연구의 제한점과 후속연구의 필요성을 논의하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between career compromise and career-related psychological variables among Korean college students. Career attitude maturity, self-efficacy, career preparation behavior, and individualism-collectivism were researched in this study to examine the attitudinal, cognitive, and behavioral aspects of career compromise involved in career decision-making process. Among many factors of career compromise, two factors of career compromise such as compromising prestige and compromising interest were examined with career attitude maturity, self-efficacy, career preparation behavior and individualism-collectivism.
Participants consisted of 416 junior and senior university students in Kyonggi-do, Korea, and all variables were measured with Likert scales.
The results revealed that compromising prestige and compromising interest are positively correlated. Also, they are negatively related with career attitude maturity, self-efficacy, and career preparation behavior. Individuals who reported high score in compromising interest showed positive career preparation behavior with moderate effect of career attitude maturity and self-efficacy.
The relationship between two factors of career compromise and individualism- collectivism were not supported, while the relationship with career attitude maturity, self-efficacy, and career preparation behavior were confirmed. Collectivism group showed higher moderate effects of career compromise than individualism group on career attitude maturity, self-efficacy, and career preparation behavior. This study provides significant dada on career compromise research in terms of psychological characteristics of career compromise and its cultural effect on psychological constructs in career decision-making process. Implications of these results for career counseling in Asian country (e.g., Korea) were discussed.
