저소득 가정 아동의 문제행동에 대한 자아존중감 및 자기통제력과 환경 변인의 중재 효과 = (The) moderating effect of self-esteem, self-control and the environment variables about the problem behavior of children in low-income family

This study aims to explore the self-esteem and self-control, which are individual internal variables and which can smooth out the effects on the problem behaviors of the children in low-income family and the moderating effects of the environment variables in family and school.
In order to achieve the above purpose, the difference and influence of the problem behaviors according to the individual and family characteristics set as the independent variables were examined and the relationship of the problem behaviors with self-control, self-esteem, and environmental variables were investigated. Also, the moderating effects of the self-esteem and self-control of the children in low-income family and the environment variables on the relationship between the family characteristics and problem behaviors were explored.
This study conducted investigation on 465 students who are 4th, 5th, and 6th graders in 18 elementary schools in Gyeongbuk area and used the self-report survey questionnaire as the tool of research. The data processing was conducted using the frequency, percentile, average and standard deviation, t-verification and ANOVA, Sheff post-havoc analysis, the correlation analysis of Pearson, simple and multiple regression analysis, control-type multiple regression analysis, and two-way ANOVA.
The results of this study can be summarized as follows.
First, the problem behaviors of total children in low-income families did not exhibit any difference according to gender, but the boys tend to show misdemeanors which belong to externalizing problem behavior more than the girls. Also, the total problem behaviors do not show any difference according to the different grades, but the fifth graders showed more externalizing problem behavior and aggressiveness than the fourth graders. Also, there was little relationship between the family composition and the problem behaviors of children, but in the family danger factors, the depression of the parents had the most significant influence on the problem behaviors of the children in the low-income family.
Second, in the relationship of the problem behaviors with self-esteem and self-control of the children in the low-income families, self-esteem had the most significance on the internalizing problems, self-control on the externalizing problems, and self-control on the total problem behaviors. Also, as a family environment variable for the children in low-income family, in the relationship of the parents’ educational behavior with problem behavior, the parents’ educational behavior was shown to have significant impact on the problem behavior. Also, as a school environment variable for the children in low-income family, in the relationship of the teachers’ support and peer support with the problem behavior, only the peer support had a significant impact on the internalizing problem behavior.
Third, in the course of moderating the internalizing problem behaviors, there was significant interaction effect between the family danger factors and self-esteem; and in the course of moderating the externalizing problem behaviors, there was significant interaction effect between the family danger factors and self-control. That is, the self-esteem moderates the influence of the family danger factors on the internalizing problem behaviors, and the self-control moderates the influence of the family danger factors on the externalizing problem behaviors.
Through the above study results, in order to understand the problem behaviors of the children in low-income family, it is necessary to consider the interaction among various variables in addition to the cause-and-effect relationship between several variables, and this study discovered the variables that can moderate or prevent the problem behaviors of the children in low-income family which has many dangerous factors. Also, since the categorical influences and moderating effects of the problem behaviors are different from each other, this study also provided a practical suggestive point that the different types of problem behavior requires a different approach.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 저소득 가정 아동의 문제행동에 미치는 영향력을 완화시킬 수 있는 개인내적 변인인 자아존중감 및 자기통제력과 가정 및 학교 환경 변인의 중재 효과를 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다.
위의 목적을 달성하기 위해, 독립변인으로 선정한 개인 및 가족 특성에 따른 문제행동의 차이 및 영향력을 살펴보았으며, 자아존중감 및 자기통제력, 환경 변인과 문제행동과의 관련성을 살펴보았다. 그리고, 저소득 가정 아동의 자아존중감 및 자기통제력과 환경 변인들이 가족 특성과 문제행동 간의 관계에 미치는 중재 효과를 탐색하였다.
본 연구는 경북 지역 내 18개 초등학교의 4, 5, 6학년인 저소득 가정 아동 465명을 대상으로 이루어졌으며, 조사도구로는 자기 보고식 설문지를 이용하였다. 자료처리는 빈도와 백분율, 평균과 표준편차, t-검증과 ANOVA, Sheffe 사후 검증, Pearson의 상관관계 분석, 단순 및 중다회귀분석, 조절적 중다회귀분석, 이원변량분석을 통해 검증하였다.
본 연구에서 나타난 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 저소득 가정 아동의 개인 및 가족 특성에 따른 문제행동의 차이 및 영향력을 살펴본 결과, 저소득 가정 아동의 전체 문제행동은 성별에 따라 차이를 보이지 않았지만 남아가 여아에 비하여 외현화 문제행동인 비행 행동을 더 많이 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고, 학년에 따른 차이에서 전체 문제행동에서는 차이가 없었지만, 4학년에 비해 5학년이 더 많은 외현화 문제행동과 공격성을 보였다. 또한, 가족구성은 아동의 문제행동과 큰 관련이 없었으며, 가족위험요인에서는 부모의 우울이 저소득 가정 아동의 문제행동에 가장 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.
둘째, 저소득 가정 아동의 자아존중감 및 자기통제력과 문제행동과의 관련성에서 내면화 문제행동에는 자아존중감이, 외현화 문제행동에서는 자기통제력이, 전체 문제행동에서는 자기통제력이 가장 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고, 저소득 가정 아동의 가정 환경 변인인 부모양육행동과 문제행동과의 관련성에서 부모양육행동은 문제행동에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 저소득 가정 아동의 학교 환경 변인인 교사지지 및 또래지지와 문제행동과의 관련성을 살펴보면 내면화 문제행동에서 또래지지만이 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.
셋째, 저소득 가정 아동의 개인내적 및 환경 변인들이 문제행동간의 관계에 미치는 중재효과를 탐색한 결과, 내면화 문제행동을 중재함에 있어 가족위험요인과 자아존중감 간의 유의한 상호작용 효과가 있었으며, 외현화 문제행동을 중재함에 있어 가족위험요인과 자기통제력 간에는 유의한 상호작용 효과가 나타났다. 즉, 자아존중감은 가족위험요인이 내면화 문제행동에 미치는 영향을 중재하고 있으며, 자기통제력은 가족위험요인이 외현화 문제행동에 미치는 영향을 중재하고 있음을 알 수 있었다.
이상의 연구 결과를 통해 저소득 가정 아동의 문제행동을 이해하기 위해서는 몇 몇 변인들 간의 인과관계만이 아니라 다양한 변인들 간의 상호작용을 고려해야하며, 많은 위험 요소를 갖고 있는 저소득 가정 아동의 문제행동을 예방 또는 중재하기 위한 변인을 밝혀냈다. 그리고, 문제행동의 하위유형별 영향력과 중재효과가 다르므로 문제행동의 유형에 따라 다르게 접근할 수 있는 보다 실제적인 시사점을 제공하였다.
