      The purpose of this study is to find out the variables affecting the career counseling and examine their effects. For the purpose of this, the verification was made in respect to the relationship among career decision-making self-efficacy, attitude toward career counseling, expectations about career counseling and counseling outcome.
      Research participants were 220 college students in Seoul and metropolitan area who had the career counseling. As a research tool, the existing scales was adopted for the Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy Scale-SF(CDMSES-SF), Attitude Toward Career Counseling Scale(ATCCS), Session Evaluation Questionnaire(SEQ), and Client Satisfaction Questionnaire(CSQ). Expectation About Career Counseling Scale was developed by the researcher. In terms of data, SPSS/WIN 10.0 program and Amos 4.0 program were utilized and the correlation analysis and structural equation modeling were used. In this study, three models were proposed and the best fit model to explain the empirical data was selected.
      In addition, the difference in terms of model between the group having an experience of career counseling and the one having no such experience was analyzed.
      The research result is as follows:
      First, as a result of comparing the fitness indices in the models, the model 2 that affected the counseling outcome with the medium of expectation about career counseling in respect of career decision-making self-efficacy and attitude toward career counseling was selected as the final model. In the test of model 2, the fitness indices are x2=184.749, x2/df=1.389, p=.002, RMSEA=.042, GFI=.919, CFI=.961, TLI=.950. As a result of verifying the mediating effect, the career decision-making self-efficacy and the attitude toward career counseling showed a positive direct effect on the expectation about career counseling. The expectation about career counseling showed a positive direct effect on the counseling outcome. It was found out that the expectation about career counseling mediate the counseling outcomes associated with the career decision-making self-efficacy and the attitude toward career counseling.
      Second, depending on the experience of career counseling, the career counseling process model is difference. In the group having the experience of career counseling, it was found out that the model 2 which was the same as the model for the entire groups well explained the causal relationship among variables. In the group having no counseling experience, the career decision-making self-efficacy affected the expectation about career counseling with the medium of the attitude toward career counseling and the model 3 in which the expectation about career counseling affected the counseling outcome was determined as the optimal model. In this regard, it can be seen that while in the group having the experience of career counseling, the career decision-making self-efficacy and attitude toward career counseling had the effect on counseling outcome with the mediation of the expectation about career counseling, in the group having no counseling experience, the career decision-making self-efficacy had the effect on counseling outcome with mediation of the attitude toward career counseling and the expectation about career counseling.

      As a result of the above research, it can be found out that the career decision-making self-efficacy and attitude toward career counseling affect the counseling outcome with the mediation of expectation about career counseling. The expectation about career counseling is confirmed as an important variable mediating the client's variable and the counseling outcome in the process of career counseling. Therefore, in case a client desires to have a professional assistance for a career issue, a counselor should understand the career decision-making self-efficacy and attitude toward career counseling of such client and fully deal with the client's expectation about counseling with the client. And such intervention will enhance the outcome of career counseling. Moreover, it is important to deal with the prior experience about career counseling of the client.

      이 연구의 모형을 검증하기 위하여 진로상담을 받은 서울 및 수도권 대학생 220명을 대상으로 검사를 실시하였다. 자료는 SPSS/WIN 10.0 프로그램과 Amos 4.0 프로그램을 사용하여 상관분석, 회귀분석, 공변량구조분석을 하였다. 연구를 위하여 사용한 도구는 다음과 같다. 내담자의 진로결정자기효능감을 측정하기 위하여 Taylor와 Betz(1983)가 개발하여 이은경(2001)이 타당화한 진로결정자기효능감 척도(Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy Scale-SF)를 사용하였다. 진로상담에 대한 태도를 측정하기 위해 Rochlen, Mohr과 Hargrove(1999)가 개발한 진로상담태도 척도(Attitudes Toward Career Counseling Scale: ATCCS)의 ‘효용성(value)’ 척도를 본 연구자가 번안하여 사용하였다. 진로상담 기대를 측정하기 위하여 본 연구자가 개발한 ‘진로상담에 대한 기대척도’를 사용하였고, 상담 성과의 측정을 위해서 Stiles(1989)가 개발하고 이상희(1993)가 타당화한 상담회기평가질문지(Session Evaluation Questionnaire)와 Larsen, Attkison, Hargreaves와 Nguyen(1979)이 개발하고 김영석(1993)이 타당화한 상담만족도검사(Client Satisfaction Questionnaire)를 사용하였다.
      이 연구에서는 세 개의 가설적 모형을 설정하여 이 중 경험적 자료를 가장 잘 설명할 수 있는 모형을 선정하였다. 또한 대상자들을 진로상담 경험이 있는 집단과 없는 집단으로 구별하여 집단 간에 모형의 차이가 있는지 분석하였다.
      구체적인 연구 결과는 다음과 같다.
      첫째, 설정한 모형들의 적합도를 비교한 결과, 진로결정자기효능감과 진로상담태도가 각각 진로상담에 대한 기대를 매개로 하여 상담성과에 영향을 미치고 있는 모형 2가 최종 모형으로 채택되었다. 진로결정자기효능감과 진로상담태도는 진로상담에 대한 기대에 정적인 영향을 미쳤고, 진로상담태도 역시 진로상담에 대한 기대에 영향을 미쳤으며, 진로상담에 대한 기대는 상담성과에 유의한 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 매개효과 검증 결과, 진로결정자기효능감과 진로상담에 대한 태도는 진로상담에 대한 기대를 매개로 하여 상담성과에 간접효과를 갖는 것으로 나타났다.
      둘째, 진로상담 경험 유무에 따라 진로상담 과정 모형은 다르게 나타났다. 진로상담 경험이 있는 집단에서는 전체 집단의 모형과 동일한 모형 2가 변인들간의 인과관계를 잘 설명해주는 것으로 나타났다. 상담경험이 없는 집단에서는 진로결정자기효능감이 진로상담에 대한 태도를 매개로 하여 진로상담기대에 영향을 미치고, 진로상담기대가 상담성과에 영향을 미치는 직선적 매개모형인 모형 3이 가장 적합한 모형으로 판단되었다. 이는 진로상담 경험이 있는 집단에서는 진로결정자기효능감과 진로상담태도가 각 각 진로상담에 대한 기대를 매개로 하여 상담성과에 영향을 미치고 있는 반면, 진로상담 경험이 없는 집단에서는 진로결정자기효능감이 진로상담태도와 기대를 거쳐 상담성과에 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 볼 수 있다.

      이상의 연구 결과, 진로결정자기효능감, 진로상담태도는 진로상담에 대한 기대를 매개로 하여 상담성과에 영향을 미치고 있음을 알 수 있다. 진로상담에 대한 기대는 진로상담과정에서 내담자 변인과 상담성과를 매개하는 중요한 변인임이 확인되었다. 따라서 내담자가 진로에 대한 문제로 전문적인 도움을 받고자 할 때, 상담자는 내담자들의 진로결정자기효능감과 진로상담에 대한 태도를 파악하고, 상담에 대해 어떤 기대가 있는지 상담자와 내담자와 충분히 다루어야 하며, 이런 개입은 진로상담의 성과를 높일 수 있을 것이다. 또한 내담자들이 이전에 진로상담 경험이 있는지에 대해서도 중요하게 다루어야 할 것이다.
