유아 성별에 따른 어머니 양육행동과 유아의 학습과 관련된 사회적 기술의 관계 = Relationships Between Mother`s Parenting Behaviors and Young Children`s Learning-Related Social Skills by Child Gender

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between mothers` parenting behaviors and young children`s learning-related social skills (LRSS) by child gender, which may contribute to exploring ways to enhance appropriate parenting behaviors of mothers for developing their child``s LRSS. The subjects of this study were 151 children (78 boys and 73 girls), aged 5, from 13 early childhood programs located in D city and their mothers. While significantly positive correlations were found between subfactors of mothers` parenting behaviors and their children`s learning-related social skills for both boys and girls, there were also different patterns of correlations by gender type. It was also found that maternal involvement explains every subfactor of boys` LRSS, and that reasonable guidance adds to the explanation of mastery and limit-setting to self-assertiveness. For girls, maternal free expression explained all subfactors of LRSS, and intimacy, reasonable guidance, and responsiveness explained some subfactors. These findings suggest that both parents and teachers should recognize the critical importance of parenting behaviors on the young children`s LRSS, and work together to boost their LRSS, while recognizing the dynamic differences by child gender type.
