유아가 인식하는 행복의 의미 탐색 = The meaning of happiness as understood and articulated by young children

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

When are young children able to think abstractly about happiness, about when they are happy and what makes them happy? This study set out to examine what happiness, an abstract term, means to children and how do they articulate what they recognize and call happiness. Forty-three young children from two daycare centers were interviewed using semi-structured questions. Their responses were analyzed in terms of their narrations on how they experienced happiness and thought abstractly about it in their everyday lives. The results are as follows. Four young children, first, an abundance of material goods means happiness. Second, a good mood means happiness. Third, an intimate relationship between people means happiness. Finally, engaging in a worthwhile task means happiness. These findings suggest that learning what happiness means from a child`s point of view could allow them to cognitively and experientially explore their conceptualizations through curriculum activities and learning strategies. That is to say, the point of view of young children could be the basis for an early childhood education for happy young children.
