공감능력과 심리적 안녕감의 관계에서 친사회적 행동의 매개효과 = The Mediating Effect of Prosocial Behavior in the Relation between Empathic Ability and Psychological Well-being

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship among empathic ability, prosocial behavior, and psychological well-being. Also, in this study, it was examined whether prosocial behavior mediated the relationship between empathic ability and psychological well-being. 183 university students were sampled for this study. For data analysis, reliability analysis, correlation among variables, analysis of path model were conducted. The results of this study were as follows.
First, in terms of the relationship among empathic ability, prosocial behavior, and psychological well-being, perspective taking and empathic concern were positively correlated with prosocial behavior and psychological well-being. Fantasy as a subscale of empathic ability was positively correlated with only prosocial behavior. However personal distress was negatively correlated with both prosocial behavior and psychological well-being. Second, in terms of the relation between empathic ability and prosocial behavior, perspective taking and empathic concern significantly predicted psychological well-being. Third, it was found that prosocial behavior completely mediated the effects of perspective taking and empathic concern, two subscales of empathic ability on psychological well-being. Therefore, empathic ability can positively contribute to psychological well-being by increasing prosocial behavior.
The implications and limitations of this study were discussed.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 공감능력과 친사회적 행동 및 심리적 안녕감과의 관계를 살펴보고, 공감능력과 심리적 안녕감과의 관계에서 친사회적 행동이 매개역할을 하는지 알아보고자 한다. 이를 위해 대학생 183명을 대상으로 공감척도, 친사회적 행동 척도, 심리적 안녕감 척도를 사용하여 설문조사를 실시하였다. 자료분석은 각 척도들의 신뢰도 분석, 주요 변인들간의 단순상관관계분석, 중다회귀분석 및 경로분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과를 통한 결론과 논의는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 공감능력의 하위요인인 관점취하기와 공감적 관심은 친사회적 행동과 심리적 안녕감과 모두 정적 상관을, 상상하기는 친사회적 행동과 정적상관을, 개인적 고통은 친사회적 행동과 심리적 안녕감 모두와 부적 상관을 나타냈다. 둘째, 친사회적 행동에 영향을 미치는 공감능력에는 관점취하기와 공감적 관심으로 나타났다. 이는 관점취하기와 공감적 관심이 공감의 중요한 요소임을 의미한다. 셋째, 친사회적 행동은 공감능력의 하위 요인 중 관점취하기, 공감적 관심과 심리적 안녕감과의 관계를 완전매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 공감능력은 친사회적 행동을 함으로써 자신의 심리적 안녕감에 긍정적으로 기능할 수 있음을 확인하였다.
이상의 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구의 의의와 제한점을 논의하였다.
