        국내 대학원 유학생의 내용-언어 통합 교수법에 대한 경험 조사

        본 연구는 내용-언어 통합교수법의 한 가지 형태인, 영어 매개 강의의 개념을 응용하여 국내 대학원 수업에서컨텐츠 지식과 한국어 습득을 동시에 습득할 수 있는 한국어 매개 수업(Korean as a Medium of Instruction: KMI) 개념을 제안하였다. 내용-언어 통합 교수법의 한 가지 형태로, KMI 수업은 국내 대학의 유학생들이 전공 분야에 대한 지식을 학습하는 동시에 학문적 한국어 언어능력도 향상시킬 수 있다. 본 연구는 국내 지방 소재 사립대학인 W 대학에 재학 중인 중국인 대학원 유학생 15명을 대상으로 한 학기 동안 KMI 수업을 적용하여 KMI 수업의 효과성을 검토하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구는 혼합연구 방법을 적용하여 학기말에는 KMI 수업을 통한 학습자의 컨텐츠 지식, 인지능력, 다문화 이해력과 관련된 인식과 만족도를 알아보기 위해 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 설문지 응답자 중에 인터뷰 지원자를 선정해서 1대1 심층 인터뷰를 진행하였다. 연구의 결과는 첫째, 중국인 유학생들은 KMI 수업을 통해 컨텐츠 지식을많이 배웠다고 응답했다. 둘째, 중국인 유학생들은 KMI 수업을 통해 한국어 능력이 전반적으로 향상되었다고 응답했다. 셋째, 중국인 유학생들은 KMI 수업을 통해 한국 문화에 대해 이해하고 다양한 한국 문화의 관점을 경험할 수 있었다. 넷째, 중국인 유학생들은 KMI 수업에 대해 전반적으로 만족한다고 평가했고, 효과적인 수업이라고생각했다. 결국 KMI 수업을 미래에 재수강할 의지도 강한 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 KMI 수업 적용이 한 학기 정도만 진행되었기 때문에 짧은 기간 동안 유학생들의 학문적 한국어 활용 능력이 급격히 향상되는 것은 아닌 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 연구의 결론은 첫째, KMI 수업은 중국인 유학생들의 컨텐츠 지식 학습에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다. 둘째, KMI 수업은 중국인 유학생의 한국어 능력 향상에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다. 셋째, KMI 수업은 유학생들의 다문화이해 능력에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다. 하지만 초급 한국어 학습자의 경우, KMI 수업을 수강하더라도 단기간에 학문적 한국어 능력이 유의미하게 향상되기 어렵다는 결론을 도출했다. This study explores international Chinese students’ experiences of Korean as a Medium of Instruction (KMI) course in a Korean university. This study focuses on the KMI course that allows students to simultaneously learn Korean academic language and content knowledge. Thus, this study examines the effectiveness of the KMI course for Chinese international students and proposes effective teaching methods that will enable international students to perform academic studies in the future successfully. This study is conducted at the graduate school of W University in Korea. The KMI method is applied to two graduate courses with 15 Chinese international students during the 2021 Fall semester. By using mixed-method, the survey is conducted to determine the perception and satisfaction of the international Chinese students’ experiences in the KMI course related to content knowledge, cognitive ability, and multicultural understanding. Among survey participants, interview applicants are selected and conducted in-depth interviews. The results as shown below. First, Chinese international students develop various content knowledge through the KMI course. Second, Chinese international students can improve their Korean language ability through the KMI course. Third, bilingual KMI courses are more effective in learning Korean vocabulary and grammar than monolingual KMI courses. Third, Chinese international students understand Korean culture and university life through the KMI course. Fourth, Chinese international students are generally satisfied with the KMI course. However, Chinese international students face a challenge that quickly improves their Korean academic ability through the KMI. The conclusions as shown below. First, the KMI course positively affects the content knowledge of Chinese international students. Second, the KMI course has a positive effect on improving the Korean ability of Chinese international students. Third, the KMI course positively affects international students’ understanding of multiculturalism. However, the KMI course may not dramatically impact international students’ academic Korean language skills in a short period.

        Portraying the ‘Chinese international students’: a review of English-language and Chinese-language literature on Chinese international students (2015–2020)

        The Chinese international students are often portrayed in a monolithic manner in popular discourse. To offer a more comprehensive and critical representation of the Chinese international students, this paper conducts a thematic narrative review of 128 English-language and 74 Chinese-language peer-reviewed articles published between 2015 and 2020. Drawing on post-colonial theories, this review identifies four subject positions portrayed of the Chinese international students: the (1) neoliberal, (2) political, (3) pedagogic and (4) racialised subjects. This paper celebrates heartening developments in the literature which affirms Chinese international students’ epistemic contributions, legitimate pedagogic needs, notable heterogeneity and wide-ranging political, cultural and pedagogic agencies. It also highlights how aspects of these subject positions have exercised epistemic injustice on the Chinese international students. Meanwhile, it pinpoints the Chinese international students’ acquiescence in exacerbating global education inequalities. Among the first to bring the dominant English-language and ‘local’ perspectives of Chinese-language literature in dialogue, this article notes divergent focuses and indicates unique contributions to historicising research on Chinese international students made by the latter. This article challenges popular perceptions of Chinese international students, questions production of knowledge, and pinpoints future research directions.

      • LUXURY CONSUMER BEHAVIOUR OF CHINESE YOUNG ADULTS – A COMPARISON BETWEEN INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS & YOUNG CONSUMERS FROM MAINLAND CHINA

        The Chinese market has played an important role for the luxury industry in the past years, with double-digit yearly growth (except for last year). Luxury brands have tried to design strategies to meet the local requirements, be it in terms of retail formats or communication strategies. However, Chinese luxury consumers are evolving in terms of consumption habits and materialistic value: observations from the field show that there is less and less emphasis on logo display among certain consumers (Dubois & Laurent, 1994; Lin & Wang, 2010). Such changes might affect also young consumers, which already stand for a great share of luxury consumers (Source: Red Luxury,2012). Besides, past studies on Chinese consumers’ attitudes toward luxury and values behind luxury consumption have often relied on student-samples, acknowledging the potential limitation to their results due to a potential lack of representativeness of the population interviewed. Few studies have provided analyses of the causes of the values and behaviours of young Chinese customers towards luxury product consumption, focused on them as ‘young people’ (Wang et al., 2012; Xue & Wang, 2012). Besides, most of those that tried to do so relied upon student samples of Chinese students studying abroad (in the USA or Europe) (Chen & Kim, 2013). This paper attempts to investigate the contemporary young Chinese consumers’ behaviour towards luxury consumption, segmenting them into two groups : the international student group and mainland Chinese young consumer group. A quantitative survey collected data from 104 respondents within a month where the snowball sampling method was applied to broadcast both online and offline questionnaires. Qualitative data was analyzed through lexical analyzis, while quantitative data was analyzed with the help of SPSS (Levene-test and T-tests). This study mainly focuses on four features: Chinese culture, materialism, young Chinese generation culture and buying motivation. The results of the study mainly indicate that there have been some changes between generations. One such change is that Chinese youths are more individualistic than what was found in previous studies, and another change is that young Chinese consumers hold different points of view towards the values of luxury consumption. As far as differences between international students and local young people from Mainland China are concerned, we found the following differences: • Finding 1: International students purchase luxury products to fit-in with their friends & because they want others to view them as a member of the upper class & as a successful person more than their local fellows. • Finding 2: International students’ income is more able to support them purchase luxury products than for young locals, and they are more inclined to save money to buy luxury products that their local fellows. • Finding 3: Mainland Chinese young people usually go luxury shopping with their parents more than international students do and claim they will still purchase luxury products even if prices increase more than them as well. • Find 4: Purchasing luxury products make local young people happier than international students, and they care more about the style (as opposed to price) of luxury products than these lasts.  We believe such findings will help luxury companies refine their strategies for the coming generations and help researchers notice on which dimensions of luxury consumption using expatriated Chinese students might have an impact and lead towards biased results.

        니하오? 국내 중국인 유학생의 한국 학생과의 교우관계 : 중국인 유학생의 경험과 인식

        본 연구는 국내 중국인 유학생이 한국 학생과의 관계에 대하여 갖는 인식과 경험을 알아봄 으로써 교우관계에서 느끼는 어려움을 심층적으로 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 서울의 사 립대학 학부 과정에 재학 중인 중국인 유학생 20명을 대상으로 질적 면접을 실시하였다. 연 구결과 중국인 유학생의 한국 학생과의 교우 관계는 서로 단절되어 분리된 경향을 보였다. 중국인 유학생은 한국 학생들에 대하여 중국인 유학생을 냉담하고 목적 위주의 관계만을 선 호한다고 인식하였다. 거꾸로 중국인 유학생들은 한국인과 한국학생들이 본인들을 부정적으 로 바라본다고 인식하고, 그 이유는 양국 언론매체의 보도, 정치경제적 관계, 한국의 이문화 교육 등에 있다고 생각하였다. 본 연구는 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 국내 대학의 외국인 유학생의 유치가 수치상으로는 성공적이나 학생들 간 분리되어 있는 현상을 지적하고, 앞으 로 외국인 유학생의 한국 학생과의 교우관계에 대한 지원을 통해 이들 학생들의 교육 및 사 회문화적 경험의 질을 높이는 대학 국제화가 필요함을 강조하였다. The purpose of this paper is to explore Chinese students’ difficulty and understanding of their relationship with Korean students. A total of 20 Chinese undergraduate students at a private university in Seoul were interviewed. Findings show that (1) Chinese students were separated from Korean students in their relationships; (2) Chinese students understood that Korean students were indifferent to Chinese students and pursue purposeful relationships with Chinese students; (3) Chinese students recognized that Korean students and people perceive China and Chinese people negatively, reasons including mass media in both China and Korea, political and economic relations between two countries, and lack of intercultural education in Korean education. This paper emphasizes the separation of Chinese students from Korean students despite the successful increase of international student population in Korean higher education, and concludes that international student recruitment and internationalization efforts in Korean higher education need to be directed toward facilitating relationships between Korean and international students, thereby promoting their quality of educational and sociocultural experience.

        중국인 유학생의 대학생활적응에 관한 연구 -비대면 수업 만족도와 학생지원서비스를 중심으로-

        국내 학령인구의 급감으로 인해 유학생유치가 중요해지면서 급변하는 수업환경에서도 유학생들의 대학생활적응에 대해서는 면밀한 관심이 필요하다. 본 연구는 고등교육기관 내 유학생 비율이 가장 높은 중국인 유학생을 대상으로 비대면 수업 만족도, 학생지원서비스가 대학생활적응에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지와 코로나19 상황에서 경험한 온라인 수업의 개선점과 대학생활적응의 어려운 점을 탐색하였다. 본 연구에서는 주요 변수 간 관계를 탐색하기 위해 2021년 11월 15일부터 26일까지 약 2주간 온라인 설문조사를 중국인 유학생들을 대상으로 실시하였다. 회귀분석을 사용하여 다음과 같은 분석결과를 도출하였는데, 첫째, 비대면 수업의 품질과 수업 시스템 만족도로 구성된 비대면 수업 만족도는 중국인 유학생의 대학생활적응에 유의한 정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 대학의 중국인 유학생 지원서비스 즉, 비교과 프로그램 만족도와 유학생 행정지원 서비스 만족도는 중국인 유학생의 대학생활적응에 정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 셋째, 비대면 수업의 개선점은 동료 학생과의 원활한 상호작용, 중요한 수업 공지사항의 정확한 전달, 한국어능력을 향상시킬 수 있는 기회 확대 등으로 나타났다. 넷째, 긴급재난 시 대학생활적응의 어려운 점으로 학업 외 다양한 한국문화 체험 기회의 부족, 자가격리 등의 문제로 중국과 한국간 이동의 제한점, 한국인 선후배 또는 동료 학생과의 교류 기회의 부족 등의 순으로 나타났다. 이 연구결과를 토대로 코로나19와 같은 긴급재난 상황에서의 중국인 유학생의 대학생활적응을 촉진시킬 수 있는 함의를 제시하였다. As attracting international students becomes important due to the sharp decline in the domestic school-age population, close attention is needed to the adaptation of international students to college life even in the rapidly changing class environment. This study explored the effects of non-face-to-face class satisfaction and student support services on college life adaptation for Chinese international students with the highest percentage of international students in higher education institutions, and the difficulties of adapting to college life. In this study, an online survey was conducted on Chinese international students for about two weeks from November 15 to 26, 2021 to explore the relationship between major variables. The following analysis results were derived using regression analysis. First, non-face-to-face class satisfaction consisting of the quality of non-face-to-face classes and satisfaction with the class system had a significant positive effect on Chinese international students’ adaptation to college life. Second, the satisfaction of the university’s Chinese international student support service, that is, the satisfaction of the non-subject program and the administrative support service for international students, had a positive effect on Chinese international students’ adaptation to college life. Third, the improvements in non-face-to-face classes were smooth interaction with fellow students, accurate delivery of important class announcements, and expansion of opportunities to improve Korean language skills. Fourth, due to the difficulty of adapting to college life in case of an emergency disaster, the lack of opportunities to experience various Korean cultures other than studies, limitations of movement between China and Korea due to self-quarantine, and lack of opportunities to interact with Korean seniors and juniors or fellow students. Based on the results of this study, implications that can promote Chinese international students’ adaptation to college life in emergency disaster situations such as COVID-19 were presented.

        진로탐색교육 참여만족도와 학과만족도가 진로결정수준에 미치는 영향: 중국 국내 대학생과 재한 중국유학생의 비교

        Based on previous studies, this research aims to investigate the relationship among career exploration education participation satisfaction, major satisfaction, and career decision-making level among Chinese domestic university students and Chinese international students in Korea as separate research subjects. The research findings can be summarized as follows. Looking at the descriptive statistics of career exploration education participation satisfaction, major satisfaction, and career decision-making level of Chinese students, the statistics for domestic university students are higher than those for international students. Second, for Chinese domestic university students, multiple regression analysis results show that career exploration education participation (β=.158, p<.05) and major satisfaction (β=.558, p<.001) both have a positive effect on career decision-making level. For Chinese international students, multiple regression analysis results also show that career exploration education participation (β=.349, p<.001) and major satisfaction (β=.407, p<.001) both have a positive effect on career decision-making level. Third, looking at the logistic regression results, for Chinese domestic university students, career exploration education participation satisfaction (Wald=3.650, p<.05) has a significant impact on post-graduation career decision-making, while major satisfaction (Wald=22.959, p>.05) does not. For Chinese international students in Korea, career exploration education participation (Wald=10.872, p<.01) has a significant impact on post-graduation career decision-making, while major satisfaction (Wald=5.072, p<.05) also has a significant impact.

        재한 중국 유학생의 학업지속 의도에 관한 연구: 한중 SNS 이용, 사회적 지지, 대학생활 적응을 중심으로

        본 연구는 우리나라 학위과정에 재학중인 유학생들의 학업중단 현상에 주목하여 유학생 출신국 중에서 가장 큰 비중을 차지하는 중국 유학생을 대상으로 학업지속 의도에 영향을 주는 요인을 파악하고자하였다. 구체적으로 본 연구는 한국과 중국 SNS 이용이 한국과 중국인 동료로부터의 정서와 학업에 관한 사회적 지지에 영향을 주는지, 정서와 학업적 지지가 대학생활 적응에 영향을 주는지, 대학생활 적응이 학업지속 의도에 영향을 주는지 연구모델을 제시하고 검증하였다. 본 연구의 데이터는 서울 소재 4년제 대학 12곳에 재학 중인 중국인 유학생을 중심으로 온라인 설문을 실시하여 수집하였다. 샘플 수집은 눈덩이 표집 방법을 사용하였고 253 명을 최종 연구대상으로 선정하였다. 연구결과 중국인 유학생의 학업지속 의도는 대학생활 적응 요인(학업적응, 사회적응, 정서적응, 대학애착) 중에서 대학애착과 긍정적 관련이 있었다. 한국 SNS와 중국SNS 이용에 관한 모델을 검증한 결과, 대학애착은 중국과 한국 동료로부터 학업에대하여 도움을 받고 있다는 인식과 더불어 한국 SNS를 통하여 한국인 동료로부터 학업에 대하여 정보를 얼마나 자주 얻는가와 연관이 있었다. 요악하면 중국 유학생들이 한국과 중국 SNS를 이용하여 같이 수업듣는 한국인과 중국인 동료와 학업에 대한 커뮤니케이션을 많이 할수록 대학에 대한만족감이 높아지고 학업을 지속할 의도가 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. This study pays attention to international students’ significant drop-out rates in Korean college degree. Chinese students are the biggest group among international students in college. This study investigates factors affecting Chinese students’ intention to retain in college. This study proposes and tests a conceptual model of intention to retain in college with Chinese and Korean SNS use, social support, adjustment to college. Data were collected through online survey among Chinese students enrolled in twelve 4-year Universities located in Seoul. The total of 253 students who were recruited by a snowbolling sampling method participated in the study. The results showed that only college attachment out of four ‘adjustment to college’ factors(academic adjustment, social adjustment, emotional adjustment, college attachment) positively affected intention to retain in college. When examining a model of Korean SNS and Chinese SNS usage, it was found that perceived academic support from Chinese and Korean classmates and how often they get academic information using Korean SNS affected positively college attachment. In sum, the more Chinese students get academic information using Chinese SNS and Korean SNS, the more they are satisfied with college and then the more they are likely to retain in college

        한국의 중국인 유학생 유입 현황과 효율적인 중국인 유학생 유치 방안

        2011년 이래 한국을 선택하는 중국인 유학생의 수는 지속적 감소 추세를 나타내고 있고, 그 빈틈은 동남아시아 출신 유학생들로 채워지고 있다. 작금의 상황은 대학 재정의 악화와 인구구조 변화에 따라 한국 대학의 중국인 유학생 유치 정책은 상당기간 지속될 것이 확실하다. 그럼에도 불구하고 무분별한 학생 선발 및 학생의 수준 관리와 지원체제의 미흡함에 대한 지적이 지속적으로 제기되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 문헌과 통계자료의 분석을 통하여 중국인 유학생이 중국을 떠나게 되는 송출요인과 한국을 찾게 되는 유인요인을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 중국의 경제발전, 고등학생 수의 감소, 한국 유학의 실효성에 대한 피로감, 한국 대학들의 무분별한 중국인 유학생 유치 등의 원인으로 중국 유학생 정체 현상이 발생하고 있음을 도출해 내었다. 이를 바탕으로 향후 획일적인 유학프로그램의 다양화, 문화프로그램 중점의 운영, 무분별한 중국 유학생 유치 지양, 상호 문화 이해 교육의 강화 등을 개선책으로 제시했다. Since 2011, the number of Chinese students who choose Korea has been declining, and the gap is rapidly filling up with Vietnamese students. Despite this trend, it is desirable to maintain the policy to attract international students to China, the world's largest sending country for international students. Therefore, in this study, the transmission factors for Chinese students to leave China and the incentives to visit Korea were analyzed through literature and statistical data. It has been found that there is a stagnation of Chinese students due to economic development in China, a decrease in the number of high school students, fatigue of the effectiveness of studying in Korea, and reckless attraction of Chinese students by Korean universities. Based on this, it suggested diversification of uniform study abroad programs in the future, focusing on cultural programs, avoiding indiscriminately attracting foreign students from China, and strengthening education to understand mutual cultures.

      • Structural Equation Modeling of Student Adaptation to College in Chinese International Students: The Application of Broaden-and-Build Theory of Positive Emotions

        Aim(s):The purpose of this study was to establish a structural equation model of student adaptation to college in Chineses international students by building a hypothetical model and verifying the fit of the model. The hypothetical model was constructed based on Fredrickson and Cohn"s broaden-and-build theory. The exogenous variable was positive emotion and the endogenous variables were positive thought, physical symtoms, interpersonal relationshion, self-efficacy, and student adaptation to college. Method(s):The data were collected with a structured self-reporting questionnaire from July 2nd to 20th, 2020, for Chinese international students attending an University in Gwangju, South Korean, who agreed to participate in the research. Participants were 339 undergraduate students who are over 19 ages. The collected data were analyzed the characteristics of the participants, descriptive statistics, and normality of measurement variables, reliability of measurement instruments, correlation and multi-collinearity of measurement variables using SPSS Statistics 23.0 program, while has verified the validity of measurement variables and model, model fit, and hypothesis using AMOS 23.0 program. Result(s):1. The hypothetical model didn’t meet the criteria of model fit, especially TLI value. Therefore, the hypothetical model was corrected by setting the covariance between the error variances of student adaptation to college. The fit index of the modified model was Q(χ2/df)=3.747, RMSEA=.090, SRMR=.046, CFI=.915, TLI=.903, which was acceptable. 2. All of sixteen hypotheses selected for the model were statistically significant, and the explanatory power of the variables of student adaptation to college was 56.0%. 3. The variables that have a statistically significant direct effect on student adaptation to college of Chinese international students were physical symptoms(β=-.465, p<.001), interpersonal relationship (β=.201, p<.001), and self-efficacy (β=.427 p<.001). The variables that have a statistically significant indirect effect on student adaptation to college were positive emotion and positive thought. 4. Bootstrapping method was performed using phantom variables for testing specific indirect effects. The positive thoughts and personal resources (physical symptoms, interpersonal relationship, self-efficacy) were significantly mediated between positive emotions and student adaptation to college. Conclusion(s): According to these results, it is proposed to provide strategies and education to promote self-efficacy and to reduce physical symptoms in Chinese international students. Also, in order to improve the student adaptation to college of Chinese international students, universities that receive foreign students should make efforts to improve their positive emotions.

        중국 유학생의 가족건강성이 SNS 중독경향성에 미치는 영향: 자아탄력성의 매개효과를 중심으로

        본 연구는 중국 유학생의 가족건강성이 SNS 중독경향성에 미치는 영향에서 자아탄력성의 매개효과를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 한국에 재학 중인 중국 유학생 349명을 대상으로 설문조사를 진행하였고 수집된 자료는 SPSS Statistics version 28 프로그램과 SPSS Process Macro 4.3으로 분석하였다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 중국 유학생의 SNS 중독경향성, 가족건강성, 자아탄력성을 살펴보면 중간보다 높은 수준으로 나타났다. 둘째, 중국 유학생의 SNS 중독경향성은 SNS 하루 평균 이용 시간은 정적 상관관계를, 가족건강성과 자아탄력성과는 부적 상관관계를 나타냈다. 셋째, 위계적 회귀분석 결과, 성별, 가족과의 연락 빈도, SNS 하루 평균 이용 시간, 가족건강성 중 질적 유대감, 자아탄력성 중 통제성이 유학생들의 SNS 중독경향성에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 가족건강성이 SNS 중독경향성에 미치는 영향에서 자아탄력성이 완전 매개효과가 있었다. 본 연구는 중국 유학생의 SNS 중독경향성을 예방하는 변인으로 가족건강성과 자아탄력성을 밝혔으며, 이를 통해 중국 유학생의 SNS 중독경향성을 예방하기 위해 상담 개입의 방향성을 제시하였다. The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of ego resilience on the relationship between family strengths of Chinese international students and Social Networking Services(SNS) addiction tendency. The data were collected through a survey of 349 Chinese international students studying in Korea and analyzed using the SPSS Statistics version 28 program and SPSS Process Macro 4.3. The main results are as follows. First, Chinese international students exhibited higher-than-average levels of SNS addiction tendency, family strengths, and ego resilience. Second, the SNS addiction tendency of Chinese international students had a significant positive correlation with the average time spend on SNS per day. while demonstrating a negative correlation with family strengths and ego resilience. Third, the hierarchical regression analysis revelated that gender, frequency of contact with family, average time spend on SNS per day, qualitative bond as a sub variable of family strengths, and control as a sub variables of ego resilience were significant factors influencing SNS addiction tendency of Chinese international students. Fourth, the study confirmed the complete mediation of ego resilience in the effect of family strengths on SNS addiction tendency. Based on the research results, this study suggested specific directions for counseling interventions aimed at mitigating SNS addiction tendencies among Chinese international students.
