        Nutritional properties, minerals, and selected heavy metal contents in herby cheese plants of Lamiaceae

        Ten of the most popular and well-known edible plant species from the Lamiaceae which are used in the production of herby cheese were examined to evaluate their nutritional properties, mineral, and heavy metal content. This study has revealed significant variations in the contents of minerals among the studied plant species. The most of plant samples were rich in some of the vital minerals such as Fe, Cu, Ca, K, Mn, and Zn, which are known to be important in health maintenance. Ziziphora capitata plant materials had the highest concentration of toxic heavy metals, including chromium (1.72 mg kg-1), where Mentha longifolia had the highest cobalt (1.14 mg kg-1). The results of this study suggest that the use of these plant species in herby cheese will not contribute to heavy metal toxicity, but may be useful in treating micronutrient deficiency.

        PEEK/SiO2 Composites with High Thermal Stability for Electronic Applications

        Thermal and mechanical properties of new high performance polymer matrix composites based on poly(etheretherketone)(PEEK) as matrix and crystalline-silica (SiO2) as reinforcement were discussed for application in electronic packaging substrates or printed circuit boards. The content of SiO2 was varied between 0 and 50 wt. %. Scanning electron microscopy showed uniform dispersion of SiO2 particles in the matrix. Thermogravimetry analysis showed significant increase in thermal stability and char yield with increase in SiO2content in the matrix. Differential scanning calorimetry showed that SiO2 had a heterogeneous nucleating effect on PEEK, leading to an increase in peak temperature of crystallization and onset crystallization temperature of the composites compared to a pure matrix. The microhardness increased approximately 42%. A modified rule of mixtures with a strengthening efficiency factor equal to 0.06 fit the data nicely. The results show that the prepared PEEK/SiO2 composites may have potential applications in electronics.

        Magneto-rheological engine mount design and experimental characterization

        Isolation mounts using magneto-rheological (MR) fluid have increasing potential for various applications. This paper introduces new design and manufacturing aspects of MR engine mounts. CAD software was used to design MR mounts and three different types of MR mount prototypes were considered. Later, magnetostatic analyses were performed to validate the designed configuration of the electromagnetic coil, which controlled the MR fluid flow. The MR mounts were manufactured and, then, tested statically and dynamically using a servo-hydraulic rate machine. Static tests were performed with amplitudes between 0-10 mm. Dynamic tests were performed under excitation frequencies in between 0-100 Hz with amplitudes of ±0.1 mm, ±0.5 mm, ±1.0 mm and ±2.0 mm as well as under excitation frequencies in between 0-20 Hz with amplitudes of ±3.0 mm, ±4.0 mm. Besides the MR mounts, hydro mount and elastomeric top were tested adopting the same procedure. The finding of different mount properties was explained and MR mount characteristics in frequency domain were demonstrated. In addition, the measured characteristics were compared with each other for hydraulic mount and elastomeric top.

        It is certainly obvious that the tubal sterilization which has been usually available at the out patients clinics and F.P department of hosptals , need the expensive intrument and the medical personnel who are highly qualified in techniques through the adequate training. Meanwhile I have endeavored my effort for the recent several years to perform tubal sterilization a little bit differently by employing my own invented method from the original tubal sterilization in order to lesson the pains of the client and also to perform it faster the ordinary method without any help of expensive equipment and the trianed medical personnel. By my own method I performed a total of well over five hundred cases who have visited my clinic and found the following results. In other words, the operation procedure is quite different from performance in the inner side of abdomen throgh the wide hold mede by an incision on the fascia, peritoneum, skin and subcutaneous fat. This method is a common method which has been available for several years in Korea. However, the method I have employed is more likely to be a drain hole type. At first 1.5cm long transvers incision will be made through the skin and the subcutaneous fat, rectus fascia, peritoneum is exerts gently enlarged by inserting and spreading the jaw of a straight homostate and retracted by army-navy retractor to be enough for making a hole a sit is used to be done when inserting a drainage This sterilization can be done by the employment of Madlener`s sterilization method, electrocauterization or Y-falope ring tubal sterilization by piching up the uterine tubes from the uterine horn with the easy help of locating uterine to the places as doctor desires by uterine elevator.

        Formulating Reduced-fat Sausages with Quinoa or Teff Flours: Effects on Emulsion Characteristics and Product Quality

        This study dealt with the use of quinoa flour (QF) or teff flour (TF) as partial beef fat replacers in the formulation of emulsion-type sausages. A control (C) group was manufactured with 20% beef fat, while the other three groups were formulated with 10% beef fat plus 5% QF (Q), 5% TF (T), and 2.5% QF+2.5% TF (QT). Water-holding capacity of the emulsions was higher in Q (81.81%), T (82.20%), and QT (84.10%) samples than in C (64.83%) samples. Total expressible fluid and expressible fat were the lowest in Q and T samples, indicating the highest emulsion stability of those groups. Incorporation of QF and TF into formulations increased moisture and carbohydrate contents while decreased fat and energy values. Besides, the use of QF was effective to increase protein and dietary fiber contents. T sausages had lower luminosity (L*) and higher yellowness (b*) than C sausages, whilst Q sausages did not result in significant color changes. Higher cook yield values were recorded in Q (97.96%), T (98.21%), and QT (98.15%) samples compared with C (96.44%) samples. Inclusion of QF and TF to formulation led to lower hardness and gumminess, while utilization of TF was also effective to decrease chewiness. Consequently, healthier emulsified sausages were obtained by the inclusion of QF or TF that could decrease the fat content more than 50% without sacrificing overall quality, bringing advantages by quinoa over teff for increasing nutritional value and leading minimal modifications on color and texture.

        Effects of direct and indirect bonding techniques on bond strength and microleakage after thermocycling

        Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the shear bond strength (SBS) of brackets and microleakage of a tooth-adhesive-bracket complex bonded with a direct and an indirect bonding technique after thermocycling. Methods: Fifty non-carious human premolars were divided into two equal groups. In the direct bonding group a light-cured adhesive and a primer (Transbond XT) was used. In the indirect-bonding group, a light-cured adhesive (Transbond XT) and chemical-cured primer (Sondhi Rapid Set) were used. After polymerization, the teeth were kept in distilled water for 24 hours and thereafter subjected to thermal cycling (500 cycles). For the microleakage evaluation, 10 teeth from each group were further sealed with nail varnish, stained with 0.5% basic fuchsin for 24 hours, and examined under a stereomicroscope. Fifteen teeth from each group were used for SBS testing with the universal testing machine and adhesive remnant index (ARI) evaluation. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test, Chi-square test, and Fisher's exact test. Results: There were no statistical differences on SBS and microleakage between the two bonding techniques. The indirect bonding group had a significantly lower ARI score. Bracket failures were obtained between enamel-resin interfaces. Conclusions: The type of bonding technique did not significantly affect the amount of microleakage and SBS. 본 연구는 직접 또는 간접 부착법으로 부착한 교정용 브라켓을 열순환 처리 후에 전단 결합 강도(shear bond strength, SBS)와 치아-접착제-브라켓 복합체의 미세 누출을 비교하기 위하여 시행하였다. 50개의 치아우식증이 없는 사람 소구치를 구하여 동등한 2개의 군으로 나누었다. 직접 부착군에서는 광중합 접착제 및 primer (Transbond XT)를 사용하였고 간접 부착군에서는 광중합 접착제와(Transbond XT) 화학중합 primer (Sondhi Rapid Set)를 사용하였다. 중합 후에 치아는 24시간 동안 증류수에 보관하였고 이후 500회 열순환 처리를 하였다. 미세누출의 평가를 위해 각 군에서 10개의 치아에 nail varnish로 추가 봉연을 실시하고 0.5% basic fuchsin에 24시간 동안 염색한 후 입체현미경으로 검경하였다. 만능시험기를 이용하여 각 군의 치아 15개로 SBS를 계측하였고 adhesive remnant index (ARI)를 평가하였다. 결과 자료는 Mann-Whitney U test, Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test로 통계 분석하였다. 직접 부착군과 간접 부착군 사이에 SBS 및 미세누출의 통계적으로 유의한 차이는 보이지 않았으며 간접 부착군에서 통계적으로 유의하게 ARI 점수가 낮았다. 브라켓의 탈락은 법랑질-레진 계면에서 발생하였다. 이상의 결과로 보아 부착법의 차이는 미세누출의 양과 SBS에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않는다.

        Evaluation of different enamel conditioning techniques for orthodontic bonding

        Objective: Th e aim of this study was to compare the eff ects of diff erent enamel conditioning techniques for bracket bonding. Methods: Ninety-one human premolars were randomly divided in six groups of 15 specimens each. Th e enamel surfaces of the teeth were etched with 35% orthophosphoric acid in Group 1, with a self-etching primer in Group 2, sandblasted in Group 3, sandblasted and etched with 35% orthophosphoric acid in Group 4, conditioned by Er:YAG laser in Group 5 and conditioned by Er:YAG laser and etched with 35% phosphoric acid gel respectively in Group 6. Aft er enamel conditioning procedures, brackets were bonded and shear bonding test was performed. Aft er debonding, adhesive remnant index scores were calculated for all groups. One tooth from each group were inspected by scanning electron microscope for evaluating the enamel surface characteristics. Results: Th e laser and acid etched group showed the highest mean shear bond strength (SBS) value (13.61 ± 1.14 MPa) while sandblasted group yielded the lowest value (3.12 ± 0.61 MPa). Conclusions: Although the SBS values were higher, the teeth in laser conditioned groups were highly damaged. Th erefore, acid etching and self-etching techniques were found to be safer for orthodontic bracket bonding. Sandblasting method was found to generate inadequate bonding strength.
