In this paper, a 3D analytical model of permanent magnet (PM) and electromagnetic hybrid Halbach array electrodynamic suspension (EDS) system for a conductive plate is presented. When the hybrid Halbach array moves to cut the conductive plate, the 3D eddy current forces are derived using the second-order vector potential (SOVP) based on y-component of the source magnetic fux density, which is derived using the Biot–Savart law and surface current method. The accuracy of the derived equations is verifed by a 3D fnite-element analysis (FEA) model. Furthermore, the efects of the main characteristic parameters on the levitation force are analysed.
Prediction of postoperative pancreatic fistula using a nomogram based on the updated definition

Purpose: The International Study Group on Pancreatic Fistula’s definition of postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) has recently been updated. This study aimed to identify risk factors for POPF in patients having pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) and to generate a nomogram to predict POPF. Methods: Data on 298 patients who underwent PD from March 2012 to October 2017 was retrospectively reviewed and POPF statuses were redefined. A nomogram was constructed using data from 220 patients and validated using the remaining 78 patients. Independent risk factors for POPF were identified using univariate and multivariate analyses. A predictive nomogram was established based on the independent risk factors and was compared with existing models. Results: Texture of the pancreas, size of the main pancreatic duct, portal vein invasion, and definitive pathology were the identified risk factors. The nomogram had a C-index of 0.793 and was internally validated. The nomogram performed better (C-index of 0.816) than the other most cited models (C-indexes of 0.728 and 0.735) in the validation cohort. In addition, the nomogram can assign patients into low- (less than 10%), intermediate- (10% to 30%), and high-risk (equal or higher than 30%) groups to facilitate personalized management. Conclusion: The nomogram accurately predicted POPF in patients having PD.

The periodically ordered ZnO nanorod (NR) arrays have been successfully synthesized via a hydrothermal approach on thesilicon substrates by templating of the TiO2ring deriving from the polystyrene (PS) nanosphere monolayer colloidal crystals(MCC). With the inverted MCC mask, sol–gel-derived ZnO seeds could serve as the periodic nucleation positions for thesite-specific growth of ZnO NRs. The large-scale patterned arrays of single ZnO NR with good side-orientation can be readilyproduced. According to the experimental results, the as-integrated ZnO NR arrays showed an excellent crystal quality andoptical property, very suitable for optoelectronic applications such as stimulated emitters and ZnO photonic crystal devices.

Several lines of evidence support the notion that MUC1 is often aberrantly expressed in gastric cancer, and it is a ligand for Helicobacter pylori. Genetic variation in MUC1 gene may confer susceptibility to H. pylori infection and gastric cancer. We assessed the association of common polymorphisms in MUC1 gene with H. pylori infection and non-cardia gastric cancer using an LD-based tag SNP approach in north-western Chinese Han population. A total of four SNPs were successfully genotyped among 288 patients with non-cardia gastric cancer and 281 age- and sex-matched controls. None of the tested SNPs was associated with H. pylori infection. SNP rs9426886 was associated with a decreased risk of non-cardia gastric cancer, but lost significance after adjustment for multiple testing. Overall, our data indicated that common genetic variations in MUC1 gene might not make a major contribution to the risk of H. pylori infection and non-cardia gastric cancer in our studied population.

<P>In order to manufacture large-scale photonic devices of various dimensions at a low cost, a number of patterning techniques have been developed. Nanoimprint lithography is among the most promising given its unique advantages, such as high resolution, fast processing speed, high throughput, compatibility with diverse materials, and low cost. This review covers various aspects of nanoimprint lithography, including its operational principles, material requirements, and different ways of implementation. Nanoimprint lithography facilitates numerous high-performance and low-cost photonic elements, including optical interconnects, sensors, solar cells, and metamaterials. In addition, other related patterning techniques, together with their utilization for photonic device fabrication and their integration with nanoimprint lithography, are briefly discussed.</P>

The new Modified-690Gd alloy, namely as Nie30Cr-(10-x) Fe-xGd (x ¼ 0.5, 1.0, 1.5,2.0, 3.0 wt%) for function structure integrated thermal neutron shielding has been prepared and characterized. The Modified-690Gd alloy was mainly composed of g austenite matrix and (Ni, Cr, Fe)5Gd precipitated along grain boundaries. The new Modified-690Gd alloy had great mechanical properties, which had the tensile strength exceeding 620 MPa and the elongation being above 50%. Meanwhile, this alloy had excellent weldability and good corrosion resistance in boric acid. The new Modified-690Gd alloy is expected to be a kind of high efficiency thermal neutron shielding materials

Character segmentation is a preprocessing step in many offline handwriting recognition systems. In this paper, Chinese characters are categorized into seven different structures. In each structure, the character size with the range of variations is estimated considering typical handwritten samples. The component removal and merge criteria are presented to remove punctuation symbols or to merge small components which are part of a character. Finally, the criteria for segmenting the adjacent characters concerning each other or overlapped are proposed.

Text extraction and binarization are the important pre-processing steps for text recognition. The performance of text binarization strongly related to the accuracy of recognition stage. In our proposed method, the first stage based on line detection and shape feature analysis applied to locate the position of a business card and detect the shape from the complex environment. In the second stage, several local regions contained the possible text components are separated based on the projection histogram. In each local region, the pixels grouped into several connected components based on the connected component labeling and projection histogram. Then, classify each connect component into text region and reject the non-text region based on the feature information analysis such as size of connected component and stroke width estimation.
