Active Distribution System Planning for Low-carbon Objective using Cuckoo Search Algorithm
Zeng, Bo,Zhang, Jianhua,Zhang, Yuying,Yang, Xu,Dong, Jun,Liu, Wenxia The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2014 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.9 No.2
In this study, a method for the low-carbon active distribution system (ADS) planning is proposed. It takes into account the impacts of both network capacity and demand correlation to the renewable energy accommodation, and incorporates demand response (DR) as an available resource in the ADS planning. The problem is formulated as a mixed integer nonlinear programming model, whereby the optimal allocation of renewable energy sources and the design of DR contract (i.e. payment incentives and default penalties) are determined simultaneously, in order to achieve the minimization of total cost and $CO_2$ emissions subjected to the system constraints. The uncertainties that involved are also considered by using the scenario synthesis method with the improved Taguchi's orthogonal array testing for reducing information redundancy. A novel cuckoo search (CS) is applied for the planning optimization. The case study results confirm the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method.

Based on an interleaving technique and quadriphase periodic complementary sequence (CS) mates, this paper presents a method for constructing a family of 16-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) periodic CS mates. The resulting mates arise from the conversion of quadriphase periodic CS mates, and the period of the former is twice as long as that of the latter. In addition, based on the existing binary periodic CS mates, a table on the existence of the proposed 16-QAM periodic CS mates is given. Furthermore, the proposed method can also transform a mutually orthogonal (MO) quadriphase CS set into an MO 16-QAM CS set. Finally, three examples are given to demonstrate the validity of the proposed method.
New Construction Method for Quaternary Aperiodic, Periodic, and Z-Complementary Sequence Sets
Zeng, Fanxin,Zeng, Xiaoping,Zhang, Zhenyu,Zeng, Xiangyong,Xuan, Guixin,Xiao, Lingna The Korea Institute of Information and Commucation 2012 Journal of communications and networks Vol.14 No.3
Based on the known binary sequence sets and Gray mapping, a new method for constructing quaternary sequence sets is presented and the resulting sequence sets' properties are investigated. As three direct applications of the proposed method, when we choose the binary aperiodic, periodic, and Z-complementary sequence sets as the known binary sequence sets, the resultant quaternary sequence sets are the quaternary aperiodic, periodic, and Z-complementary sequence sets, respectively. In comparison with themethod proposed by Jang et al., the new method can cope with either both the aperiodic and periodic cases or both even and odd lengths of sub-sequences, whereas the former is only fit for the periodic case with even length of sub-sequences. As a consequence, by both our and Jang et al.'s methods, an arbitrary binary aperiodic, periodic, or Z-complementary sequence set can be transformed into a quaternary one no matter its length of sub-sequences is odd or even. Finally, a table on the existing quaternary periodic complementary sequence sets is given as well.

Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) play an important role in impairing the function of T cells. We characterized MDSCs in two chronic hepatitis C (CHC) cohorts: a cross-sectional group that included 61 treatment-naive patients with CHC, 14 rapid virologic response (RVR) cases and 22 early virologic response (EVR) cases; and a longitudinal group of 13 cases of RVR and 10 cases of EVR after pegylated-interferon-${\alpha}$/ribavirin treatment for genotype 1b HCV infection. Liver samples from 32 CHC patients and six healthy controls were subjected to immunohistochemical analysis. MDSCs frequency in treatment-naive CHC was significantly higher than in RVR, EVR, or healthy subjects and was positively correlated with HCV RNA. Patients infected with HCV genotype 2a had a significantly higher frequency of MDSCs than those infected with genotype 1b. Decreased T cell receptor (TCR) ${\zeta}$ expression on $CD8^+$ T cells was significantly associated with an increased frequency of MDSCs in treatment-naive CHC patients and was restored by L-arginine treatment in vitro. Increased numbers of liver arginase-$1^+$ cells were closely associated with the histological activity index in CHC. The TCR ${\zeta}$ chain was significantly downregulated on hepatic $CD8^+$ T cells in CHC. During antiviral follow up, MDSCs frequency in peripheral blood mononuclear cells was directly correlated with the HCV RNA load in the plasma and inversely correlated with TCR ${\zeta}$ chain expression in $CD8^+$ T cells in both RVR and EVR cases. Notably, the RVR group had a higher frequency of MDSCs at baseline than the EVR group. Collectively, this study provides evidence that MDSCs might be associated with HCV persistence and downregulation of CD8 ${\zeta}$ chain expression.

A dynamic state of charge (SoC) balancing strategy for parallel battery energy storage units (BESUs) based on dynamic adjustment factor is proposed under the hierarchical control framework of all-electric propulsion ships, which can achieve accurate power distribution, bus voltage recovery, and SoC balance accuracy. In the primary control layer, the arccot function is introduced into the improved balancing strategy, and the bus voltage drop is effectively limited while the SoC balancing speed is quickly achieved by adjusting the SoC convergence factors. In the secondary control layer, power and voltage compensation controllers are designed individually to improve the SoC balance accuracy and compensate the bus voltage. Furthermore, neighbor-to-neighbor communication network is constructed by using dynamic consensus algorithm to reduce the communication burden as well as its error rate. Finally, the simulation and StarSim HIL experimental results show that the proposed control strategy can achieve accurate power distribution, bus voltage recovery, and has a faster SoC convergence speed than advanced methods.
Honeybees (Apis mellifera) modulate dance communication in response to pollution by imidacloprid
Zhang Zu Yun,Li Zhen,Huang Qiang,Yan Wei Yu,Zhang Li Zhen,Zeng Zhi Jiang 한국응용곤충학회 2020 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.23 No.2
Imidacloprid, one of the most commonly used insecticides, is highly toxic to honeybees and other beneficial insects. Imidacloprid is a chloronicotinyl insecticide, which has a highly specific affinity to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) in the honeybee’s nervous system. So it may interfere with dance behavior and memory formation. We found the waggle dances were modulated in honeybees fed sucrose water containing imidacloprid (pesticide group) compared to those fed normal sucrose water (control group). In our data, dancers of the pesticide group significantly increased the variance of divergence angle and the return phases in waggle dances than the control group. And the dance followers in pesticide group significantly increased the variance of crop content than the control group. Furthermore, four learning and memory related genes were significantly regulated at the gene expression levels between pesticide and control group. Our data revealed that the sublethal dose of imidacloprid impaired the honeybees’ learning and memory and resulted in cognitive disorder. The dancers may adjust their recruitment behavior leading to the observed reduced number of followers. We conclude that modulation of in-hive communication serves to protect the colony from foraging toxic food.

Ionic liquid extraction of silkworm pupa protein and its biological characteristics
Zeng Qing-Lei,Zhang Ning,Zhang Yue-Yue,Xin Xiang-Dong,Attaribo Thomas,Shao Ying,Tang Liu-Mei,Zhang Ran,이광식,진병래,Gui Zhongzheng 한국응용곤충학회 2021 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.24 No.1
Silkworm (Bombyx mori) pupa protein (SPP) is a high-quality source of animal protein with substantial nutri tional benefits and health value. To develop an efficient extraction method for SPP that is environmentally friendly, we selected choline hydroxide ionic liquid (CH-IL) as the extraction solvent and performed orthogonal experiments to optimize the extraction conditions. We demonstrated that 3% CH-IL, a solid-to-liquid ratio (g/mL) of 1:30, an extraction temperature of 40 ◦ C, and an extraction time of 1 h facilitated the most efficient extraction. Compared to the conventional alkali solubilization–acid precipitation method, the CH-IL extraction increased protein content by 12.14%. Protein structure analysis showed that the β-sheet content increased by 10.98% and that of disulfide bonds reduced by 16.4%. The processing properties of the CH-IL extracted protein showed that the solubility, emulsification, and foaming capacity were enhanced by 82.87%, 15.44%, and 18.97%, respec tively. The physical properties of SPP remarkably improved relative to the increased stretching of the poly peptide chains. The findings of this study provide technical knowledge that will enhance the processing performance of pupal proteins.
Residential Radon and Lung Cancer Risk: An Updated Meta-analysis of Case-control Studies
Zhang, Zeng-Li,Sun, Jing,Dong, Jia-Yi,Tian, Hai-Lin,Xue, Lian,Qin, Li-Qiang,Tong, Jian Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.6
Background: Numbers of epidemiological studies assessing residential radon exposure and risk of lung cancer have yielded inconsistent results. Methods: We therefore performed a meta-analysis of relevant published case-control studies searched in the PubMed database through July 2011 to examine the association. The combined odds ratio (OR) were calculated using fixed- or random-effects models. Subgroup and dose-response analyses were also performed. Results: We identified 22 case-control studies of residential radon and lung cancer risk involving 13,380 cases and 21,102 controls. The combined OR of lung cancer for the highest with the lowest exposure was 1.29 (95% CI 1.10-1.51). Dose-response analysis showed that every 100 Bq/$m^3$ increment in residential radon exposure was associated with a significant 7% increase in lung cancer risk. Subgroup analysis displayed a more pronounced association in the studies conducted in Europe. Studies restricted to female or non-smokers demonstrated weakened associations between exposure and lung cancer. Conclusions: This meta-analysis provides new evidence supporting the conclusion that residential exposure to radon can significantly increase the risk of lung cancer in a dose-response manner.
