Soft, adhesive and conductive composite for electroencephalogram signal quality improvement
Jeong E Jin,Seohyeon Kim,Hyeji Yu,Keyong Nam Lee,Young Rag Do,Seung Min Lee 대한의용생체공학회 2023 Biomedical Engineering Letters (BMEL) Vol.13 No.3
Since electroencephalogram (EEG) is a very small electrical signal from the brain, it is very vulnerable to external noise ormotion artifact, making it difficult to measure. Therefore, despite the excellent convenience of dry electrodes, wet electrodeshave been used. To solve this problem, self-adhesive and conductive composites using carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in adhesivepolydimethylsiloxane (aPDMS), which can have the advantages of both dry and wet electrodes, have been developed bymixing them uniformly with methyl group-terminated PDMS. The CNT/aPDMS composite has a low Young's modulus, penetrates the skin well, has a high contact area, and excellent adhesion and conductivity, so the signal quality is enhanced. As a result of the EEG measurement test, although it was a dry electrode, results comparable to those of a wet electrode wereobtained in terms of impedance and motion noise. It also shows excellent biocompatibility in a human fibroblast cell test anda week-long skin reaction test, so it can measure EEG with high signal quality for a long period of time.

Background/Aims: To evaluate a new monoclonal antibody for Helicobacter pylori urease in gastric tissue. Methods: A total of 107 volunteers were enrolled. All subjects underwent a 13C-urea breath test and esophagogastroduodenoscopy. Gastric aspirates were analyzed for pH and ammonia. Six biopsy specimens in the gastric antrum and body were obtained for a rapid urease test and histology. The new monoclonal antibody-based H. pylori urease test (HPU) was performed to rapidly and qualitatively detect urease in two biopsy specimens. Results: H. pylori infection was diagnosed in 73 subjects. The sensitivity and specificity of the HPU was 89% and 74%, respectively. The subjects were divided into two groups: one with true-positive and true-negative HPU results (n = 90) and the other with false-positive and false-negative HPU results (n = 17). Across all subjects, ammonia levels were 900.5 ± 646.7 and 604.3 ± 594.3 μmol/L (p > 0.05), and pH was 3.37 ± 1.64 and 2.82 ± 1.51 (p > 0.05). Sensitivity was higher in the presence of atrophic gastritis or intestinal metaplasia. Conclusions: HPU detected H. pylori in approximately 10 min. Gastric aspirate ammonia and pH levels did not affect the test results. Sensitivity was good in the presence of atrophic gastritis or intestinal metaplasia.

Bright yellow ${(Y_{1-x}Gd_x)}_{3-z}{(Al_{1-y}Ga_y)}_5O_{12}:Ce_z$ phosphors were synthesized. White LED was obtained by the combination of non-absorbed blue emission from a blue L ED itself and yellow emission from ${(Y_{1-x}Gd_x)}_{3-z}{(Al_{1-y}Ga_y)}_5O_{12}:Ce_z$ phosphors. The crystal structures and optical properties of ${(Y_{1-x}Gd_x)}_{3-z}{(Al_{1-y}Ga_y)}_5O_{12}:Ce_z$ phosphors were investigated.

We report the cathodoluminescence and aging properties of a series of green phosphors of formula $Sr_{1-x}M_xGa_2S_4$:Eu (x = 0.0-1.0, M = Ba or Ca) that have potential applications in field emission displays (FEDs). The series of phosphors was synthesized via NaBr-aided solid-state reactions in a flowing $H_2S$ stream. A low level ($\sim$20%) of Ba or Ca substitution for Sr in $SrGa_2S_4$:Eu maintains the orthorhombic phase of pure $SrGa_2S_4$:Eu phosphors. Further, a low level ($\sim$20%) of Ba or Ca substitution for Sr in $SrGa_2S_4$:Eu provides various green colors and sufficient brightness for FED applications. Substitution of Ba or Ca for Sr in $SrGa_2S_4$:Eu also improved the stability of the phosphor when it was operated under electron-beam irradiation of 5 kV.
