THE GEOMETRIC ALBEDO OF (4179) TOUTATIS ESTIMATED FROM KMTNet DEEP-SOUTH OBSERVATIONS

We derive the geometric albedo of a near-Earth asteroid, (4179) Toutatis, to investigate its surface physical conditions. The asteroid has been studied rigorously not only via ground-based photometric, spectrometric, polarimetric, and radar observations but also via \textit{in situ} observation by the Chinese Chang'e-2 space probe; however, its geometric albedo is not well understood. We conducted V-band photometric observations when the asteroid was at opposition in April 2018 using the three telescopes in the southern hemisphere that compose the Korea Microlensing Telescope Network (KMTNet). The observed time-variable cross section was corrected using the radar shape model. We find that Toutatis has a geometric albedo $\pV = \pVval $, which is typical of S-type asteroids. We compare the geometric albedo with archival polarimetric data and further find that the polarimetric slope--albedo law provides a reliable estimate for the albedo of this S-type asteroid. The thermal infrared observation also produced similar results if the size of the asteroid is updated to match the results from Chang'e-2. We conjecture that the surface of Toutatis is covered with grains smaller than that of the near-Sun asteroids including (1566) Icarus and (3200) Phaethon.

Potyvirids, members of the family Potyviridae, produce the P3N-PIPO protein, which is crucial for the cell-to-cell transport of viral genomic RNAs. The production of P3N-PIPO requires an adenine (A) insertion caused by RNA polymerase slippage at a conserved GAA AAA A ( GA6) sequence preceding the PIPO open reading frame. Presently, the slippage rate of RNA polymerase has been estimated in only a few potyvirids, ranging from 0.8 to 2.1%. In this study, we analyzed publicly available plant RNA-seq data and identified 19 genome contigs from 13 distinct potyvirids. We further investigated the RNA polymerase slippage rates at the GA6 motif. Our analysis revealed that the frequency of the A insertion variant ranges from 0.53 to 4.07% in 11 potyviruses (genus Potyvirus). For the two macluraviruses (genus Macluravirus), the frequency of the A insertion variant was found to be 0.72% and 10.96% respectively. Notably, the estimated RNA polymerase slippage rates for 12 out of the 13 investigated potyvirids were reported for the first time in this study. Our findings underscore the value of plant RNA-seq data for quantitative analysis of potyvirid genome variants, specifically at the GA6 slippage site, and contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the RNA polymerase slippage phenomenon in potyvirids.

Homologous recombination (HR) is necessary for maintenance of genomic integrity and prevention of various mutations in tumor suppressor genes and proto-oncogenes. Rad51 and Rad54 are key HR factors that cope with replication stress and DNA breaks in eukaryotes. Rad51 binds to single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) to form the presynaptic filament that promotes a homology search and DNA strand exchange, and Rad54 stimulates the strand-pairing function of Rad51. Here, we studied the molecular dynamics of Rad51 and Rad54 during the cell cycle of HeLa cells. These cells constitutively express Rad51 and Rad54 throughout the entire cell cycle, and the formation of foci immediately increased in response to various types of DNA damage and replication stress, except for caffeine, which suppressed the Rad51-dependent HR pathway. Depletion of Rad51 caused severe defects in response to postreplicative stress. Accordingly, HeLa cells were arrested at the G2-M transition although a small amount of Rad51 was steadily maintained in HeLa cells. Our results suggest that cell cycle progression and proliferation of HeLa cells can be tightly controlled by the abundance of HR proteins, which are essential for the rapid response to postreplicative stress and DNA damage stress.

본 연구는 도시재생사업의 공공성을 회복하고, 현재 중단된 사업의 정상화를 통하여 도시경쟁력을 확보하는 방안을 모색하고자 하는 것이 그 목적이다. 이와 같은 연구목적을 달성하기 위하여 도시재생사업의 본질과 관련 이론을 검토하고, 관련 법률의 내용을 분석하였다. 분석결과 현재의 법 체제는 공공성의 확보와 도시기능의 회복이라는 도시재생 본연의 목적 달성에 부합하지 못한다고 판단하였다. 또한, 대부분의 도시재생사업이 주로 주거환경개선을 목적으로 하고 있다는 점, 구체적 시행방법으로서 전면철거 후 개발을 택하고 있다는 점, 기존 건축물의 노후화나 주거환경의 열악성과는 상관없이 수익성만을 근거로 정비사업이 시행된다는 점 등의 도시재생사업에 대한 반성과 문제제기는 결국 기존 도시재생 관련 법률의 정비 필요성을 야기하였다. 이러한 문제점들을 극복하기 위하여 도시재생의 개념을 기반으로 관련 법률들을 통합하고 도시재생 관련 법체계를 정립함은 물론 관련 법률간 충돌, 법률 내용상 상이, 법률과 하위 법령 또는 자치법규상 충돌 등도 해결하여야 할 것이다. 따라서 도시재생 관련 법률은 ?도시재생 기본법?을 상위법으로 하고, ?도시 및 주거환경법비법?을 사업법으로, ?도시재생 활성화 및 지원에 관한 법률?을 지원법으로 하는 체계를 갖추어 여러 법률에 흩어져 있는 도시재생 관련 법률을 체계화함은 물론 각 부처별로 무계획적으로 진행되고 있는 도시재생사업을 중앙정부와 지방정부 그리고 민간이 상호 협력하여 진행할 수 있도록 예산과 조직, 그리고 정보를 효율적으로 운영하여야 할 것이다. The purpose of this research is to seek a method to procure city competitiveness through normalization of currently suspended businesses and to restore the public character of the urban regeneration business that had been distorted in the past. In order to achieve such objective, this research reviewed the essence of urban regeneration and change of related laws. As a result of the analysis, it has been determined that the current legal system does not conform to the achievement of the natural objective of urban regeneration, which is the restoration of urban function and procurement of public character. In addition, the problems raised and self-reflection on urban regeneration, such as the fact that most urban regeneration businesses have its objective to improve residential environment, development is selected as the specific implementation method after total demolishment, and maintenance business is implemented based only on profitability irrelevant to the coarseness of residential environment or deterioration of existing buildings, gave rise to the necessity of finally organizing existing laws related to urban regeneration. Thus, laws relating to urban regeneration should be equipped with a system, having the Urban Regeneration Framework Act as the higher law, the Urban and Living Environment Improvement Act as the business law, and the Act on the Promotion and Support of Urban Regeneration as the assisting law, in order to systemize laws relating to urban regeneration that are scattered through several laws and also to efficiently operate budget, organization, and information so that the national government, local government, and private sector may mutually cooperate to conduct the urban regeneration business, which is currently being implemented by each division in an unplanned manner.
한글 가변 폰트 서비스를 제공하기 위한 한글 매개변수 조절 사용자 인터페이스

하나의 폰트를 제작하기 위해서, 로마자 폰트는 200여자만 디자인하면 되지만, 한글 폰트는 11,172자나 되는 많은 글자를 하나하나 디자인해야 하는 어려움이 있다. 하나의 한글 폰트 제작에 많은 시간과 노력이 드는 기존 문제점을 해결하기 위해, 메타폰트와 같은 프로그래머블 폰트를 이용하는 방법이 제안되었으나, 이를 실제 사용하는 것은 용이하지 않다. 따라서 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 한글 가변폰트 서비스를 위한 한글 매개변수 조절 서비스 “STEMFONT’를 개발하였다. 본 논문에서는 STEMFONT 서비스에 대한 소개와 더불어 서비스 기능에 맞는 인터페이스 구성에 대해 설명한다. 이러한 인터페이스를 통해 사용자들이 쉽게 폰트를 제작할 수 있다.
