Observability and Controllability Analysis for Sandwich Systems with Dead-zone

        Yonghong Tan,Na Luo,Ruili Dong 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2016 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.14 No.1

In this paper, an approach to analyze the observability and controllability of sandwich systems withdead-zone is proposed. In this method, a non-smooth state-space function is proposed to describe the sandwichsystems with dead-zone which are also non-smooth nonlinear systems. Then, a linearization method based onnon-smooth optimization is proposed to derive a linearized state-space function to approximate the non-smoothsandwich systems within a bounded region around the equilibrium points that we are interested in. Afterwards, both observability and controllability matrices are constructed and the methods to analyze the observability as wellas controllability of sandwich system with dead-zone are derived. Finally, a numerical example is presented.

Integrated proteomic and metabolomic analyses reveal significant changes in chloroplasts and mitochondria of pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) during Sclerotium rolfsii infection

        Liao Hongdong,Wen Xiangyu,Deng Xuelei,Wu Yonghong,Xu Jianping,Li Xin,Zhou Shudong,Li Xuefeng,Zhu Chunhui,Luo Feng,Ma Yanqing,Zheng Jingyuan 한국미생물학회 2022 The journal of microbiology Vol.60 No.5

Infection by Sclerotium rolfsii will cause serious disease and lead to significant economic losses in chili pepper. In this study, the response of pepper during S. rolfsii infection was explored by electron microscopy, physiological determination and integrated proteome and metabolome analyses. Our results showed that the stomata of pepper stems were important portals for S. rolfsii infection. The plant cell morphology was significantly changed at the time of the fungal hyphae just contacting (T1) or surrounding (T2) the pepper. The chlorophyll, carotenoid, and MDA contents and the activities of POD, SOD, and CAT were markedly upregulated at T1 and T2. Approximately 4129 proteins and 823 metabolites were clearly identified in proteome and metabolome analyses, respectively. A change in 396 proteins and 54 metabolites in pepper stem tissues was observed at T1 compared with 438 proteins and 53 metabolites at T2. The proteins and metabolites related to photosynthesis and antioxidant systems in chloroplasts and mitochondria were disproportionally affected by S. rolfsii infection, impacting carbohydrate and amino acid metabolism. This study provided new insights into the response mechanism in pepper stems during S. rolfsii infection, which can guide future work on fungal disease resistance breeding in pepper.

Quantitative Analysis of Seismic Response of Rock Slopes Using Discontinuous Deformation Analysis - A Case Study

        Wenjun Gong,Yunsheng Wang,Yujie Wang,Yonghong Luo 대한토목학회 2020 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.24 No.12

For the prevention and mitigation of hazards, it is crucial to quantitatively analyze the seismic response of rock slopes. However, only a few studies have quantitatively analyzed the seismic response of rock slopes; these studies have considered topographic effects only and have neglected geological site effects, such as impedance contrasts and fractures, which are important factors affecting the seismic response of rock slopes, as revealed by multiple recent phenomena. Therefore, this study primarily aims to investigate the possibility of employing a numerical model for quantitatively analyzing the seismic response of rock slopes by considering the geological site effects. Herein, a discrete element method, i.e., discontinuous deformation analysis (DDA), was employed for the dynamic analyses, and a well-monitored rock slope, Mount Dong, was selected as the case study. In the proposed DDA model, horizontal and vertical ground motions were applied simultaneously. The different weathering degrees of the Mount Dong rock layers were considered to reflect the impedance contrasts, and the penalty value at the fractures was altered according to the stiffness for reflecting the fracture effects. Furthermore, a set of optimal boundary settings, especially for DDA, were applied to handle seismic dynamic problems. Results show that DDA can quantitatively reflect the seismic response of Mount Dong along a single direction, such as the horizontal direction, which is sufficient to satisfy engineering requirements. The peak ground acceleration amplification analyses indicate that: 1) a strong impedance contrast is more important than topographic effects for the seismic response of Mount Dong; and 2) in addition to the impedance of rock layers, widely spread fractures also play an important role in contributing to the seismic response anisotropy of rock slopes. Finally, spectral amplification analyses reveal that the responses of the inner and surface portion of Mount Dong are significant in a low- and high-frequency range, respectively.

Hypoxia-Inducible Factor 1α Regulates the Transforming Growth Factor β1/ SMAD Family Member 3 Pathway to Promote Breast Cancer Progression

        Jianheng Peng,Xiaolin Wang,Liang Ran,Junlong Song,Rong Luo,Yonghong Wang 한국유방암학회 2018 Journal of breast cancer Vol.21 No.3

Purpose: The transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1)/SMAD family member 3 (SMAD3) pathway, and hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) are two key players in various types of malignancies including breast cancer. The TGF-β1/SMAD3 pathway can interact with HIF-1α in some diseases; however, their interaction in breast cancer is still unknown. Therefore, our study aimed to investigate the interactions between the TGF-β1/SMAD3 pathway and HIF-1α in breast cancer. Methods: Expression of HIF-1α in serum of breast cancer patients and healthy controls was detected by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, and the diagnostic value of HIF-1α for breast cancer was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. Breast cancer cell lines overexpressing SMAD3 and HIF-1α were established. Cell apoptosis and proliferation following different treatments were detected by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5- diphenyltetrazolium bromide, and cell counting kit-8, respectively. Expression of related proteins was detected by western blot. Results: Serum levels of HIF-1α were higher in breast cancer patients than in normal controls. Both SMAD3 and HIF-1α overexpression inhibited cell apoptosis and promoted cell proliferation. Treatment with inhibitors of HIF-1α and SMAD3 promoted apoptosis in breast cancer cells and inhibited their proliferation. Overexpression of HIF-1α promoted the expression of TGF-β1 and SMAD3, while SMAD3 overexpression did not significantly affect expression of HIF-1α or TGF-β1. Conclusion: HIF-1α serves as an upstream regulator of the TGF-β1/SMAD3 pathway and promotes the growth of breast cancer.

Morphological Characteristics of Normal and Gynandromorphic Hyalomma asiaticum Schulze and Schlottke, 1930

        Ze Chen,You-quan Li,Qiao-Yun Ren,Jin Luo,Yonghong Hu,Kai Li,Guang-Yuan Liu,Jian-xun Luo,Jingze Liu,Hong Yin 대한기생충학열대의학회 2015 The Korean Journal of Parasitology Vol.53 No.3

Gynandromorphic ticks are extremely rare, and often attract parasitologists’ attention. During our examination of tick specimens, an engorged gynandromorph of Hyalomma asiaticum was noticed. This is the first record of gynandromorphic ticks from China. In this study, several important morphological structures of normal and gynandromorphic H. asiaticum were analyzed. Comparing to the normal H. asiaticum, the gynandromorphic specimen was a typical bipartite protogynander. Its right side showed normal female characteristics, whereas the left side had normal male traits. Different from other gynandromorphic ticks containing 1 anus, this tick reported here had 2 complete anuses, and the anus of the male part had a single adanal plate.
