Cathodic Limiting Current Density in Copper Electrolysis

        Maru, Yoichi,Ito, Shigeharu,Oyama, Shin,Kondo, Yoshio 대한금속재료학회(대한금속학회) 1971 대한금속·재료학회지 Vol.9 No.3

In the electrode position on the vertical plate cathode immersed in an unstirred electrolyte, a concentration boundary film is formed along the cathode surface and the cathodic limiting current density is determined by the transfer rate of copper ion through the film. Moreover, the decrease of copper ion concentration in this film causes an upward natural convective flow of electrolyte along the surface and the average cathodic limiting current density is expressed by equation (6). The effects of copper ion concentration in the bulk electrolyte and of the height of the cathode on the cathodic limiting current density can be interpreted by this equation. The natural convective flow becomes turbulent when the Reynolds number concerning the film thickness exceeds 200 and the experimental results were summarized by an equation composed of dimensionless numbers of Sh, Sc and Gr. The apparent activation energy of diffusion of copper ion in the electrolyte was estimated at 4.8 ㎉/㏖.

CASE REPORT : Four Cases of Successfully Treated Chronic Expanding Soft Tissue Hematoma

( Takamichi Ito ),( Takeshi Nakahara ),( Satoshi Takeuchi ),( Hiroshi Uchi ),( Masakazu Takahara ),( Yoichi Moroi ),( Masutaka Furue ) 대한피부과학회 2014 Annals of Dermatology Vol.26 No.1

Chronic expanding hematoma (CEH) is a rare, slow- developing disease that occurs months to years after trauma or surgery. Most CEH in soft tissue occurs in the thigh or upper extremities and can occur with or without an inducible cause. Ninety-one cases of CEH in soft tissue have been reported previously in the Japanese and English literature but its occurrence on the sole has not been reported. Here, we report four cases of successfully treated CEH, including a case occurring on the sole, and provide a review of the literature. (Ann Dermatol 26(1) 107∼110, 2014)

Class 1 KNOX Gene Expression Supports the Selaginella Rhizophore Concept

        Junko Kawai,Yoichi Tanabe,Sumitomo Soma,Motomi Ito 한국식물학회 2010 Journal of Plant Biology Vol.52 No.4

The spikemoss is marked by the unique rootproducing pleurogeous rhizophore as well as the lycophytic microphyll. Imaichi and Kato (Bot Mag Tokyo 102:369–380, 1989; Am J Bot 78:1694–1703, 1991) revealed that the exogenous developmental process in the rhizophore is clearly distinguishable from the developmental process in the endogenous root, argued that the axial organ could be coordinate with other fundamental organs including the root and stem, and demonstrated the “rhizophore concept.” In this paper, we report on the expression pattern of the spikemoss Selaginella class 1 KNOX gene, SuKNOX1, in the rhizophore. We show that the SuKNOX1 mRNA is specifically accumulated at the tip of the rhizophore as well as the shoot apical apex, but not in the root tip. This result supports the “rhizophore concept” at the molecular level.

Tidal Transport through the Tsugaru Strait - Part I: Characteristics of the Major Tidal Flow and its Residual Current

        Quang-Hung Luu,Kosuke Ito,Yoichi Ishikawa,Toshiyuki Awaji 한국해양과학기술원 2011 Ocean science journal Vol.46 No.4

The potential role of the tide-induced time-mean flow (the tidal residual current) in determining transport through the Tsugaru Strait (located between the East/Japan Sea and the North Pacific) is investigated using a high-resolution numerical barotropic model. The calculated K_1, O_1, M_2, and S_2 tidal fields agree well with available observational records derived from both tide gauge and current meter measurements in the strait and the adjacent seas. The tidal residual current speed reaches 0.3 ms^(-1) in two narrow “neck” areas where topographic sills are located. This result suggests that tides should be taken into account in estimating the long-term water mass and nutrient transport through narrow regions between the East/Japan Sea and the North Pacific. An interesting aspect of the tidal residual current field is the prediction of several active eddy zones in which sequences of eddy triplets develop in the vicinity of capes. Our vorticity analysis reveals that the interplay of topographic effects arising from both the headland and the sill around capes plays a critical role in the formation of these triple eddy patterns.

Phase II study of niraparib in recurrent or persistent rare fraction of gynecologic malignancies with homologous recombination deficiency (JGOG2052)

        Hiroshi Asano,Katsutoshi Oda,Kosuke Yoshihara,Yoichi M Ito,Noriomi Matsumura,Muneaki Shimada,Hidemichi Watari,Takayuki Enomoto 대한부인종양학회 2022 Journal of Gynecologic Oncology Vol.33 No.4

Background: Poly (adenosine diphosphate)-ribose polymerase (PARP) inhibitors for tumors with homologous recombination deficiency (HRD), including pathogenic mutationsin , have been developed. Genomic analysis revealed that about 20% of uterine leiomyosarcoma (uLMS) have HRD, including 7.5%–10% of alterations and 4%–6% of carcinomas of the uterine corpus, and 2.5%–4% of the uterine cervix have alterations of. Preclinical and clinical case reports suggest that PARP inhibitors may be effective against those targets. The Japanese Gynecologic Oncology Group (JGOG) is now planning to conduct a new investigator-initiated clinical trial, JGOG2052. Methods: JGOG2052 is a single-arm, open-label, multi-center, phase 2 clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of niraparib monotherapy for a recurrent or persistent rare fraction of gynecologic malignancies with mutations except for ovarian cancers. We will independently consider the effect of niraparib for uLMS or other gynecologic malignancies with mutations (cohort A, C) and HRD positive uLMS without mutations (cohort B). Participants must have 1–3 lines of previous chemotherapy and at least one measurable lesion according to RECIST (v.1.1). Niraparib will be orally administered once a day until lesion exacerbation or unacceptable adverse events occur. Efficacy will be evaluated by imaging through an additional computed tomography scan every 8 weeks. Safety will be measured weekly in cycle 1 and every 4 weeks after cycle 2 by blood tests and physical examinations. The sample size is 16–20 in each of cohort A and B, and 31 in cohort C. Primary endpoint is the objective response rate.

      • Experimental investigation of interlaminar mechanical properties on carbon fiber stitched CFRP laminates

        Iwahori, Yutaka,Ishikawa, Takashi,Watanabe, Naoyuki,Ito, Akira,Hayashi, Yoichi,Sugimoto, Sunao The Korean Society for Composite Materials 2007 Advanced composite materials Vol.16 No.2

Experimental investigations of interlaminar mechanical properties for carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) laminates were carried out using aramid fiber ($Kevlar^{(R)}$-29 1000d) and carbon fiber (TR40-1K 612d, Mitsubishi Rayon) stitching. Various carbon fiber (CF) stitch densities were used to prepare a number of CF stitched CFRP laminates for double cantilever beam (DCB) tests. An insert tongue-type loading fixture, developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (formerly the National Aerospace Laboratory of Japan), was also employed in the DCB test. Interlaminar tension tests were carried out under an out-of-plane directional loading using a single CF stitch thread in the CFRP laminates. The DCB test results clarified that the relationship between the volume fractions of the CF stitch thread ($V_{ft}$) and mode I critical energy release rate ($G_{Ic}$) showed a mostly linear function with a higher gradient than that of the $Kevlar^{(R)}$ stitched CFRP laminates. The CF stitched CFRP tension test results indicated that the consumption energy per unit area ($E_i$) was larger than that of $Kevlar^{(R)}$ stitched CFRP laminates.

Phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor administered immediately after radical prostatectomy temporarily increases the need for incontinence pads, but improves final continence status

        Yasuhiro Kaiho,Shinichi Yamashita,Akihiro Ito,Yoshihide Kawasaki,Hideaki Izumi,Naoki Kawamorita,Hisanobu Adachi,Koji Mitsuzuka,Yoichi Arai 대한비뇨의학회 2016 Investigative and Clinical Urology Vol.57 No.5

Purpose: To evaluate the effects of phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor (PDE5i) on urinary continence recovery after bilateral nerve-sparing radical prostatectomy (BNSRP). Materials and Methods: Between 2002 and 2012, 137 of 154 consecutive patients who underwent BNSRP in our institution retrospectively divided into 3 groups that included patients taking PDE5i immediately after surgery (immediate PDE5i group, n=41), patients starting PDE5i at an outpatient clinic after discharge (PDE5i group, n=56), and patients taking no medication (non-PDE5i group, n=40). Using self-administered questionnaires, the proportion of patients who did not require incontinence pads (pad-free patients) was calculated preoperatively and at 1, 3, 6, 12, 18, and 24 months after BNSRP. Severity of incontinence was determined based on the pad numbers and then compared among the 3 groups. Results: Proportions of pad-free patients and severity of incontinence initially deteriorated in all of the groups to the lowest values soon after undergoing BNSRP, with gradual improvement noted thereafter. The deterioration was most prominent in the immediate PDE5i group. As compared to the non-PDE5i group, both the PDE5i and immediate PDE5i groups exhibited a better final continence status. Conclusions: PDE5i improves final continence status. However, administration of PDE5i immediately after surgery causes a distinct temporary deterioration in urinary incontinence.

Molecular Prevalence of Cryptosporidium spp. among Companion Birds Kept in Pet Shops in Japan

        Yuko Iijima,Naoyuki Itoh,Totsapon Phrompraphai,Yoichi Ito,Yuya Kimura,Satoshi Kameshima 대한기생충학열대의학회 2018 The Korean Journal of Parasitology Vol.56 No.3

Cryptosporidium is the most common protozoan that can infect a wide range of animals, including mammals and birds. Avian Cryptosporidium spp. can cause enteric and respiratory diseases which can be fatal in birds and some species are zoonotic. Companion birds have the potential as reservoir due to their close contact with humans. Pet shops are the major source of companion birds. However, few reports are available regarding Cryptosporidium spp. infection among companion birds kept in pet shops. The present study reports the prevalence and molecular characteristics of Cryptosporidium spp. among companion birds kept in pet shops in Japan. A total of 265 fresh fecal samples were obtained from birds kept in 4 pet shops; these birds belonged to 41 species in 3 bird orders. A nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay targeting the small subunit rRNA gene was employed for the detection of Cryptosporidium spp. A total of 24 samples (9.1%) were positive, and Cryptosporidium spp. were detected from all pet shops. The prevalence of Cryptosporidium spp. in each of the bird orders was 6.5% (10/153) in Psittaciformes, 14.4% (13/90) in Passeriformes, and 4.5% (1/22) in Galliformes. Based on sequence analysis, 13 (54.2%) isolates were classified to C. galli, 8 (33.3%) were avian genotype III, and the remaining 3 (12.5%) were C. baileyi. No infection with zoonotic C. meleagridis and no coinfection with multiple Cryptosporidium spp. and/or genotypes were observed. The zoonotic potential of Cryptosporidium spp. infecting companion birds kept in pet shops in Japan is likely to be low.

Evidence for divergence of DNA methylation maintenance and a conserved inhibitory mechanism from DNA demethylation in chickens and mammals

        Masako Tada,Ayaka Hayashi,Yumi Asano,Musashi Kubiura-Ichimaru,Takamasa Ito,Miho Yoshii,Hiroshi Kimura,Yoichi Matsuda,Mitsuo Oshimura 한국유전학회 2021 Genes & Genomics Vol.43 No.3

Background DNA methylation is a signifcant epigenetic modifcation that is evolutionarily conserved in various species and often serves as a repressive mark for transcription. DNA methylation levels and patterns are regulated by a balance of opposing enzyme functions, DNA methyltransferases, DNMT1/3A/3B and methylcytosine dioxygenases, TET1/2/3. In mice, the TET enzyme converts DNA cytosine methylation (5mC) to 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) at the beginning of fertilisation and gastrulation and initiates a global loss of 5mC, while the 5mC level is increased on the onset of cell differentiation during early embryonic development. Objective Global loss and gain of DNA methylation may be diferently regulated in diverged species. Methods Chicken B-cell lymphoma DT40 cells were used as an avian model to compare diferences in the overall regulation of DNA modifcation with mammals. Results We found that DNA methylation is maintained at high levels in DT40 cells through compact chromatin formation, which inhibits TET-mediated demethylation. Human and mouse chromosomes introduced into DT40 cells by cell fusion lost the majority of 5mC, except for human subtelomeric repeats. Conclusion Our attempt to elucidate the diferences in the epigenetic regulatory mechanisms between birds and mammals explored the evidence that they share a common chromatin-based regulation of TET–DNA access, while chicken DNMT1 is involved in diferent target sequence recognition systems, suggesting that factors inducing DNMT–DNA association have already diverged.
