        Trichloroethylene(TCE) is a widely used organic solvent, especially in degreasing process of metal manufacturing, however few data concerning its exposure and poisoning were obt-ainable. This survey was performed for more information of TCE exposure in this country. Urine sanmples were collected from 144 TCE handling workers and 46 non-TCE-exposed workers. TCE concentrations of four workshops in working environment were analyzed. The results were as follows; 1. TCE exposed workers were 48 male and 96 female employees. Average total duration of employment of these workers was 39.0 months, average duration of works per day was 10.7 hours, and average duation of TCE handling was 469.7 minutes. 2. The average concentration of urine total trichloro-compounds was 156.32㎎/ g crea-tinine, and that of trichloroacetic acid was 69.2㎎/g creatinine. Of those workers, 78 workers had the concentrations of urine trichloroacetic acid over 75㎎/g, which is the biological exposure index (BEI) of urine trichloroaxetic acid in Korea. Duration of work per day and duration of TCE- related work were significantly longer in the group of workers whose urine trichloroacetic acid concentration was over the criteria level of BEI. 3. TCE concentrations of three workshops were over the level of ACGIH TLV(threshold limit value), 50ppm in TWA (time -weighted average). In remaining one workshop, duration of TCE related works was only one hour per day. There was statistically significant correl-ation between the concentration of TCE in working environment and the proportion of workers in a workshop whose urinary trichloroacetic acid concentration was over the criteria level of BEI. 4. Responses to self-administered questionnaire were not meaningful for differentiation of psychoneurologica symptoms due to chronic TCE exposure from othres.

        본 논문에서는 스마트폰의 블루투스 모듈과 기울기 센서간의 데이터를 처리하는 어플리케이션을 구현하였다. 구현된 어플리케이션은 스마트폰의 기울림에 따른 데이터 값들을 표시하는 화면을 디자인 하였다. 향후 본 논문의 결과를 기반으로 GPS를 이용한 위치 추적 어플리케이션을 구현하는 것을 목표로 한다.

      • Ames test 결과와 QSAR를 이용한 변이원성예측치와의 비교

        Recently there is increasing interest in the use of structure activity relationships for predicting the biological activity of chemicals. The reasons for the interest include the decrease cost and time per chemical as compared with animal or cell system for identifying toxicological effects of chemicals and the reduction in the use of animals for toxicological testing. This study is to test the validity of the mutagenicity data generated from QSAR (Quantitative Structure Activity Relationship) program. Thirty chemicals, which had been evaluated by Ames test during 1997-1999, were assessed with TOPKAT QSAR mutagenicity prediction module. Among 30 chemicals experimented, 28 were negative and 2 were positive for Ames test. On the contrary, 23 chemicals showed the high confidence level indicating high prediction rate in mutagenicity evaluation, and 7 chemicals showed the low to moderate confidence level indicating low prediction in mutagenicity evaluation. Overall mutagenicity prediction rate was 77% (23/30). The prediction rates for non-mutagenic chemicals were 79% (22/28) and mutagenic chemicals were 50% (1/2). QSAR could be a useful tool in providing toxicological data for newly introduced chemicals or in furnishing data for MSDS or in determining the dose in toxicity testing for chemicals with no known toxicological data.

      • 二重 傳送回路를 사용한 窒素 레이저의 特性

        We have studied on the economic construction and operational characteristics of the nitrogen laser. The laser tube is 66㎝ long with variable electrode-gap-spacing coupled to the transmission line circuit. This transmission line circuit is assembled with tow sets of Blumline transmission line circuits, which we call the double transmission line circuit. Each transmission line circuit consits of 3 sheets of 0.188㎜ mylar films and 4 sheets of aluminum foils. the optimum operational conditions of this nitrogen laser are 80torr in nitrogen gas pressure and 6500volts in voltage. In this conditions, we have measured that, repetition rate is 21㎐,the stability of the optical power is 70% and E/p is 270 volts /㎝-torr which was measured to be 2.5 times as large as that of the othe reports so tar.

        A preionized nitrogen laser with average output power of 3.0 mW in repetition rate of 30 Hz was constructed to be used as a pump for dye lasers such as rhodamine 6G, rhodamine B, coumarin 120 and coumarin 102. Under the optimum dye concentrations and wavelengths, dye laser average output power of rhodamine 6G, rhodamine B, coumarin 120 and coumarin 102 were obtained to be 1.6 mW, 1.1 mW, 1.1 mW respectively. According as nitrogen laser average output power was increased up to 76% by preionization effect, dye laser average output powers of rhodamine 6G, rhodamine B, coumarin 120 and coumarin 102 were increased up to 23%, 38%, 57% and 71% respectively. The nitrogen laser system used for this research can be utilized in dye lasers covering the entire visible spectra and if the nitrogen laser output power is improved, the output power of the coumarin 102 dye laser can be improved higher than that of the rhodamine 6G dye laser.

      • <i>Exceptionization</i> : A Java VM Optimization for Non-Java Languages

        <P>Since exceptionization is a generic JVM optimization, independent of any specific language runtime, it would be generally applicable to other language runtimes on the JVM. Our experimental result shows that exceptionization accelerates the performance of several non-Java languages. For example, JavaScript-onJVM runs faster by as much as 60% and by 6% on average, when experimented with the Octane benchmark suite on Oracle's latest Nashorn JavaScript engine and HotSpot 1.9.NMI. Furthermore, the performance of Ruby-on-JVM shows an improvement by as much as 60% and by 6% on average, while Python-on-JVM improves by as much as 6% and by 2% on average. We found that exceptionization is more effective to apply to the branch bytecode of the language runtime itself than the bytecode corresponding to the application code or the bytecode of the Java class libraries. This implies that the performance benefit of exceptionization comes from better J1'I' compilation of the language runtime of non-Java languages.</P>

      • 고속고압 방전간극을 사용한 질소 레이저의 동작 특성

        We have constructed a nitrogen laser which is 42㎝ long has a rapid high-voltage spark gap and a multiple parallel capacitor-type Blumlein transmission line circuit, whose total capacitance is about 80 nF. The maximum output power of laser has obtained under the condition of nitrogen gas pressure of 80torr, spark gap spacing of 2.26mm and charging voltage of 10.5kV. Under these optimum conditions and maintaining constant stability of 0.02, this laser can be operated with a range of repetition rate, from 10 to 30.1 Hz. The value of E/P is 437 V.cm^-1. torr^-1 for maximum output power and 417 Vcm^-1. torr^-1 for optimum stability condition.

        Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of coumarins isolated from <i>Foeniculum vulgare</i> in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated macrophages and 12-<i>O</i>-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate-stimulated mice

        <P><I>Context</I>: <I>Foeniculum vulgare</I> (<I>F. vulgare</I>) is traditionally used to treat inflammatory diseases. Recently, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities of methanol extract of the fruits of <I>F. vulgare</I> were reported. To identify biologically active compounds responsible for the anti-inflammatory activity, we isolated four coumarins, scopoletin, 8-methoxypsoralen, bergapten and imperatorin from the fruits of <I>F. vulgare.</I></P><P><I>Objective</I>: This study assessed the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of coumarins isolated from <I>F. vulgare</I> in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated macrophages and 12-<I>O</I>-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA)-stimulated mice.</P><P><I>Materials and methods</I>: RAW 264.7 cells were treated with the coumarins (30 µM) and then stimulated with LPS (100 ng/ml). Ears of ICR mice were treated with TPA (1 µg/ear) once a day. Ten microliters each of the four coumarins (200 &mgr;g/ml) were topically applied to the ears for 3 days. Antioxidant activities were examined using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2′-azino-bis 3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS) scavenging assays.</P><P><I>Results</I>: All the tested coumarins showed excellent antioxidant activities in DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging assays. Among the coumarins, imperatorin had the greatest anti-inflammatory activities as measured by inhibition of the pro-inflammatory cytokines production including interleukin (IL)-6 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-&agr; in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells through blockade of the I&kgr;B kinase (IKK)/inhibitor of kappa B (I&kgr;B)/nuclear factor-&kgr;B (NF-&kgr;B) pathway. <I>In vivo</I> experiments showed that imperatorin reduced TPA-induced ear thickness/weight, cutaneous cytokines expression and improved histopathological features.</P><P><I>Conclusion</I>: Although four coumarins isolated from the fruits of <I>F. vulgare</I> provide effective anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities, imperatorin is most potent.</P>
