      • Roles of Immunohistochemical Staining in Diagnosing Pulmonary Squamous Cell Carcinoma

        Background: Differentiating morphologic features based on hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining is the most common method to classify pathological subtypes of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, its accuracy and inter-observer reproducibility in pathological diagnosis of poorly differentiated NSCLC remained to be improved. Materials and Methods: We attempted to explore the role of immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining in diagnosing pulmonary squamous cell carcinoma (SQCC) with poorly differentiated features by HE staining or with elevated serum adenocarcinoma-specific tumor markers (AD-TMs). We also compared the difference of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation rate between patients with confirmed SQCC and those with revised pathological subtype. Logistic regression analyses were used to test the association between different factors and diagnostic accuracy. Results: A total of 132 patients who met the eligible criteria and had adequate specimens for IHC confirmation were included. Pathological revised cases in poor differentiated subgroup, biopsy samples and high-level AD-TMs cases were more than those with high/moderate differentiation, surgical specimens and normal-level AD-TMs. Moreover, biopsy sample was a significant factor decreasing diagnostic accuracy of pathological subtype (OR, 4.037; 95% CI 1.446-11.267, p=0.008). Additionally, EGFR mutation rate was higher in patients with pathological diagnostic changes than those with confirmed SQCC (16.7% vs 4.4%, p=0.157). Conclusions: Diagnosis based on HE staining only might cause pathological misinterpretation in NSCLC patients with poor differentiation or high-level AD-TMs, especially those with biopsy samples. HE staining and IHC should be combined as pathological diagnostic standard. The occurrence of EGFR mutations in pulmonary SQCC might be overestimated.

      • 중국 청대 상류층의 이상적 정원에 대한 탐색 -<홍루몽>의 대관원을 중심으로-

        유구한 역사와 우수한 전통을 지닌 중국원림문화는 3천여 년의 기나긴 세월동안 중국인의 사상과 철학 이 담긴 자연신수원을 조성하게 되었다. 그러나 l9세기 말까지 잘 보전되어오던 ``중국전통원림은 서양과 교류를 통하여 많은 영향을 받게 되어 지금은 서양조경과 같은 수준이 될 수도 없는 동시에 자신의 특징 조차도 이해하지 못하여 국적불명의 조경을 하고 있는 실정이다. 이는 현대 조경설계가 중국정원에 담긴 의미를 무시한 채 서양식 시각적 조경을 모방하기 때문이라고 볼 수 있다, 따라서 본 연구는 중국의 4대 명작 중의 하나인 <홍루몽(紅樓夢)>을 보면 중국 사람에게 있어서 에덴동산이라고 불리 우는 대관원(大觀園)이 등장한다. 상상적인 정원이지만 실제 중국원림 조영방법을 잘 따르고 있기 때문에 대관원을 통해서 중국 전통정원의 원형을 찾아 볼 수 있을 것이라는 전제하에 <홍루몽>의 원문에서 대관원에 대해 묘사한 부분을 정리하였으며 이를 바탕으로 중국전통원림의 원형을 유추하고 현재 중국 북경과 상해에 실제 조성된 두 개의 대관원의 조영 현황과 문제점을 현장답사를 통하여 고찰해보자 하였다. 이를 통해 살펴볼 수 있는 중국 전통정원문화에서 가장 특징적인 점은 의경(意境)을 인식한다는 것이다. 즉, 원림 조영원칙을 완벽하게 따라도 의미와 이야기가 없으면 중국전통정원이라고 말할 수 없으며 지금 중국에서 진행하고 있는 모조 건축과 원림 조성은 이러한 사실에 주의를 기울여야 할 것이라는 판단되었다. Classical Chinese garden has a long history and outstanding culture. It has formated the natural landscape garden which included Chinese people`s idea and philosophy. But classical Chinese garden finished its glorious period until the end of the 19th century because influenced by the West landscape ideal so much. In the modern times, it faces an serious problem that because copying the West landscape style overly and the Chinese landscape architects now couldn`t understand and use the classical Chinese garden culture, Chinese garden is losing its charisma and fall behind the development of the landscape architecture in the world. The main reason about it is the design without meaning in the garden. This research based on <A Dream of Red Mansion> which is one of the four master pieces in China and the Grand View Garden in the book was regarded as the Eden in China. Although the Grand View Garden was a garden in people`s mind, but it had followed the Chinese gardening rules completely, so we could find the prototype of classical Chinese garden. So first, read the book and collect the materials about the Grand View Garden, then investigated the Grand View Garden in Beijing and Shanghai built by the modern people according to the book. The artistic conception is the special and important character of classical Chinese garden. If the garden without meaning and story, even followed the gardening rules completely is not the classical Chinese garden.

        A numerical study of the second-order wave excitation of ship springing by a higher-order boundary element method

        This paper presents some of the efforts by the authors towards numerical prediction of springing of ships. A time-domain Higher Order Boundary Element Method (HOBEM) based on cubic shape function is first presented to solve a complete second-order problem in terms of wave steepness and ship motions in a consistent manner. In order to avoid high order derivatives on the body surfaces, e.g. mj-terms, a new formulation of the Boundary Value Problem in a body-fixed coordinate system has been proposed instead of traditional formulation in inertial coordinate system. The local steady flow effects on the unsteady waves are taken into account. Double-body flow is used as the basis flow which is an appropriate approximation for ships with moderate forward speed. This numerical model was used to estimate the complete second order wave excitation of springing of a displacement ship at constant forward speeds.

        Rapid and Efficient Detection of 16SrI Group Areca Palm Yellow Leaf Phytoplasma in China by Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification

        Areca palm yellow leaf (AYL) disease caused by the 16SrI group phytoplasma is a serious threat to the development of the Areca palm industry in China. The 16S rRNA gene sequence was utilized to establish a rapid and efficient detection system efficient for the 16SrI-B subgroup AYL phytoplasma in China by loopmediated isothermal amplification (LAMP). The results showed that two sets of LAMP detection primers, 16SrDNA-2 and 16SrDNA-3, were efficient for 16SrIB subgroup AYL phytoplasma in China, with positive results appearing under reaction conditions of 64oC for 40 min. The lowest detection limit for the two LAMP detection assays was the same at 200 ag/μl, namely approximately 53 copies/μl of the target fragments. Phytoplasma was detected in all AYL disease samples from Baoting, Tunchang, and Wanning counties in Hainan province using the two sets of LAMP primers 16SrDNA-2 and 16SrDNA-3, whereas no phytoplasma was detected in the negative control. The LAMP method established in this study with comparatively high sensitivity and stability, provides reliable results that could be visually detected, making it suitable for application and research in rapid diagnosis of AYL disease, detection of seedlings with the pathogen and breeding of diseaseresistant Areca palm varieties.

        Analysis on the Game of Co-opetition of ports in the China Yangtze Delta -Taking Shanghai port and Ningbo-Zhoushan port as an example

        Due to rapid growth of economy in the world, which results into shipping goods flow one place to another in large volumes, the competition becoming more intense among ports. Shanghai port and Ningbo-Zhoushan port are the two most important ports in the Yangtze River Delta and have the same economic hinterland, inevitably there is a heated competition between the two ports. This paper using the approach of SWOT to analyze the issue of competition and cooperation between the two ports, and then makes an analysis of their Co-opetition strategies by employing the analyzing methods based on the Game theory. Finally, it puts forward some strategies to enhance the cooperation between the two ports.

        DFT Analysis of the Adsorption of Methyl Nitrate on Al2O3 Surfaces

        The adsorption of the energetic molecule methyl nitrate (CH3ONO2) on α-Al2O3(0001) and γ-Al2O3(110) surfaces was investigated using first-principles calculations based on density functional theory and the generalized gradient approximation. We found that CH3ONO2 approaches the two surfaces by either the oxygen connected with carbon atom or an oxygen atom of the nitro group; however, the former interaction is more stable. If CH3ONO2 approaches the surface through the oxygen atom of the nitro group, the adsorption is non-dissociative; while it is nearly dissociative if CH3ONO2 adsorbs on the surface via the oxygen connected with carbon atom and a surface tri-coordinated Al atom. Moreover, the dissociation trend on the γ-Al2O3(110) surface is more pronounced. In addition, the adsorption of CH3ONO2 on the γ-Al2O3(110) surface is more favorable. Finally, although strong interactions exist between CH3ONO2 and the surfaces, the structures of the alumina films are not affected by the adsorption of CH3ONO2.

      • Renal-protective effects of <i>n</i>-hexane layer from morning glory seeds ethanol extract

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Nephrotoxicity is a main problem in cancer patients using cisplatin. Oxidative stress, inflammation and apoptosis are the important mechanisms of cisplatin induced nephrotoxicity. In the present study, we investigated the effect of the extracts of morning glory on nephrotoxicity by cisplatin in human embryonic kidney cells 293 (HEK-293) and mice. Previous studies have reported that morning glory extracts showed potent activity on anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant. However, the protective effects of the <I>n</I>-hexane layer of morning glory seed (MGs-Hx) on nephrotoxicity and its mechanisms have not been clearly understood. Oral administration with MGs-Hx showed protective effects <I>in vivo</I> experiments test and the treatment of MGs-Hx in a concentration of 100mg/kg/day had significant effect both of decreasing serum creatinine, BUN, serum uric acid level and reduced iNOS, COX-2 mRNA expressions with low side-effect. Moreover, cell viability was restored by MGs-Hx treatment compared to cisplatin-induced nephrotoxic HEK-293 cells. Co-treatment with MGs-Hx and cisplatin showed the significant effect to reduce inflammatory enzyme, iNOS expression and continuous production of NO. In addition, it exhibited a tendency to decreasing expression of apoptosis-related proteins, caspase-3, 8 and 9, and NF-κB translocation to nucleus as well as phosphorylation of p38, JNK, ERK in cisplatin-induced nephrotoxic HEK-293 cells. Our study provides insight into the underlying mechanisms of MGs-Hx and suggests that MGs-Hx might be a potential therapeutic agent to modulate inflammation and apoptosis in nephrotoxicity.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The present study aimed to evaluate protective effect of MGs-Hx on cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity. </LI> <LI> MGs-Hx inhibited BUN, creatinine and uric acid levels in cispaltin-induced renal injury mice. </LI> <LI> MGs-Hx attenuated the cisplatin-induced inflammation and apoptosis in HEK-293 cells. </LI> <LI> Renoprotective effects of MGs-Hx were accompanied by suppression of MAPKs. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
