• A Study on Temperature Field of Solid Disc Brake based on Thermalmechanical Coupled Model

        Xuan Wu(우쉔),Pyung Hwang(황평),YoungBae Jeon(전영배) 대한기계학회 2008 대한기계학회 춘추학술대회 Vol.2008 No.11

The disc-pad brake system is an important part of automobile safety system. During braking, the kinetic energy and potential energies of a moving vehicle are converted into the thermal energy through frictional heat between the brake disc and the pads. Most of the thermal energy dissipated through the brake disc. The temperature could be exceed the critical value for a given material, which leads to undesirable effects, such as the brake fade, premature wear, brake fluid vaporization, bearing failure, thermal cracks, and thermallyexcited vibration. The object of the present study is to investigate temperature field and temperature variation of brake disc and pad during single brake. The brake disc is decelerated at the initial speed with constant acceleration, until the disc comes to stop. The pad-disc brake assembly is built by 3D model with the appropriate boundary condition. In the simulation process, the mechanical loads are applied to the thermomechanical coupling analysis in order to simulate the process of heat produced by friction.

A Seesaw-Structured Energy Harvester With Superwide Bandwidth for TPMS Application

        Xuan Wu,Parmar, Mitesh,Dong-Weon Lee IEEE 2014 IEEE/ASME transactions on mechatronics Vol.19 No.5

In this paper, we introduce a novel seesaw-structured energy harvester for tire-pressure monitoring system (TPMS) applications. The unique design of the proposed energy harvester can effectively avoid the influence of enormous centrifugal force, which is attributed to the balance characteristic of seesaw structure. Two magnets placed on the seesaw end could swing the seesaw structure in every rotating cycle with the help of external noncontact magnetic repulsive force, and subsequently this unbalanced seesaw structure impacts the polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) cantilevers to generate the power. A miniature energy harvester prototype is fabricated using a 3-D printing technique. In the performance testing experiment, a peak voltage of 4.6 V and a constant peak output power of 36 μW with the optimized load resistance value of 0.6 MΩ are achieved within a superwide rotating frequency range of 215-965 r/min (25.7-115.4 km/h for a real car). Moreover, an average power per second is 5.625 μW at 750 r/min, which could be potential power supply for the TPMS application.

Polymorphisms in Epigenetic and Meat Quality Related Genes in Fourteen Cattle Breeds and Association with Beef Quality and Carcass Traits

        Xuan Liu,Tahir Usman,Yachun Wang,Zezhao Wang,Xianzhou Xu,Meng Wu,Yi Zhang,Xu Zhang,Qiang Li,Lin Liu,Wanhai Shi,Chunhua Qin,Fanjun Geng,Congyong Wang,Rui Tan,Xixia Huang,Airong Liu,Hongjun Wu,Shixin Ta 아세아·태평양축산학회 2015 Animal Bioscience Vol.28 No.4

Improvement for carcass traits related to beef quality is the key concern in beef production. Recent reports found that epigenetics mediates the interaction of individuals with environment and nutrition. The present study was designed to analyze the genetic effect of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in seven epigenetic-related genes (DNMT1, DNMT3a, DNMT3b, DNMT3L, Ago1, Ago2, and HDAC5) and two meat quality candidate genes (CAPN1 and PRKAG3) on fourteen carcass traits related to beef quality in a Snow Dragon beef population, and also to identify SNPs in a total of fourteen cattle populations. Sixteen SNPs were identified and genotyped in 383 individuals sampled from the 14 cattle breeds, which included 147 samples from the Snow Dragon beef population. Data analysis showed significant association of 8 SNPs within 4 genes related to carcass and/or meat quality traits in the beef populations. SNP1 (13154420A>G) in exon 17 of DNMT1 was significantly associated with rib-eye width and lean meat color score (p<0.05). A novel SNP (SNP4, 76198537A>G) of DNMT3a was significantly associated with six beef quality traits. Those individuals with the wild-type genotype AA of DNMT3a showed an increase in carcass weight, chilled carcass weight, flank thicknesses, chuck short rib thickness, chuck short rib score and in chuck flap weight in contrast to the GG genotype. Five out of six SNPs in DNMT3b gene were significantly associated with three beef quality traits. SNP15 (45219258C>T) in CAPN1 was significantly associated with chuck short rib thickness and lean meat color score (p<0.05). The significant effect of SNP15 on lean meat color score individually and in combination with each of other 14 SNPs qualify this SNP to be used as potential marker for improving the trait. In addition, the frequencies of most wild-type alleles were higher than those of the mutant alleles in the native and foreign cattle breeds. Seven SNPs were identified in the epigenetic-related genes. The SNP15 in CAPN1 could be used as a powerful genetic marker in selection programs for beef quality improvement in the Snow Dragon Beef population.

      • THERMAL-MECHANICAL COUPLING ANALYSIS OF SOLID BRAKE DISC IN REPEATED BRAKE BASED ON NON-AXISYMMETRIC THREE-DIMENSIONAL MODEL

        Xuan Wu,Pyung Hwang,Yeung-bae Jeon 대한기계학회 2007 대한기계학회 춘추학술대회 Vol.2007 No.10

The disc brake used in the automobile is divided into two parts: a rotating axisymmetrical disc, and the stationary pads. The frictional heat, which is generated on the interface of the disc and pads, can cause high temperature during the braking process. Thermal stresses due to high temperature may induce surface cracks. The frictional heat source (the pads) is moving on the disc and the location is depended on time. In our study apply the heat flux on the working surface vary with the time and space variables θ, in order to simulate the friction heat behavior accurately when the brake working. The object of present work is determination of temperature distribution and thermal deformation in the solid disc by non-axisymmetric three-dimensional modeling with appropriate thermal boundary condition for the repeated brake.

Bipartite Containment Control for Multi-agent Systems Under Fixed and Markov Switching Topologies

        Xuan Gu,Wuneng Zhou,You Wu,Wanpeng Wu,Guang Yang 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2023 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.21 No.4

The distributed bipartite containment control problem of a set of general linear multi-agent systems with structural balanced symbolic graph is studied. The containment control analysis of communication topology under fixed topology and Markov switching topologies are given. Different from the traditional multi-agent containment control, a distributed observer and bipartite containment protocol are designed based on relative neighbour information. Algebraic graph theory and Lyapunov stability theory are applied to make the bipartite containment error and estimation error converge to zero under the action of the containment control protocol, thus making follower agents converge asymptotically to the states of leader agents. Finally, the effectiveness of the theoretical method is verified by simulation examples.

Multi-Mediation Effects of Personal Self-Congruity and Social SelfCongruity to Perceived Value and Brand Attitude on Chinese Airlines Customers

        Xuan-Wen WU,Moon-Hong Kim 한국유통과학회 2020 유통과학연구 Vol.18 No.1

Purpose- This study examines the multi-mediation effect of personal self-congruity and social self-congruity to perceived value and brand attitude on aircraft customers in China. Research design, data and methodology- Survey was conducted on Chinese citizens who had flown via Chinese airlines and lived mainly in the Yangtze River delta . 727 cases were analyzed. SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 24.0 were used to analyze the data. Results - First, perceived economic value has a positive impact on personal self-congruity and social self-congruity but has no effect on brand attitude. Second, perceived functional value has a positive impact on personal self-congruity, social self-congruity, and brand attitude. Third, based on this, perceived economic value is not directly related to brand attitude. However, there is a relationship between perceived functional value and brand attitude, with personal self-congruity and social self-congruity having mediation effects. Conclusions – The Results show that perceived economic and functional value such as competitive airfare, mileage membership, check-in processes, diversified vouchers and coupons, and also basic services such as flight security and flight attendant service having an effect on personal self-congruity. To improve consumer brand attitude, airlines should take into consideration personal self-congruity factors such as their values and lifestyles, and their social self-congruity factors such as their social status and social security.

Effect of under-platform dampers on the forced vibration of high-speed rotating blades

Yanan Wu,Haijun Xuan,Changyao Wu,Dong Mi 대한기계학회 2022 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.36 No.8

Under-platform dampers (UPDs) are commonly used to adapt turbine blade vibration characteristics by friction. However, acquiring their effect on the forced vibration of high-speed rotating blades is difficult. In this paper, the blade vibration experiments with atomised liquid-jet excitation in high-speed rotation were designed to compare the effects of different UPDs on blade vibration. Also, the damping ratios of different UPDS were obtained by numerical calculation methods. The experimental and computational results showed that when the mass of the dampers was within the appropriate range, the maximum vibration responses decreased significantly, and optimum mass of UPDs reduced the vibration by 28 % compared with the vibration responses without dampers. Moreover, the frequencies of the maximum blade response increased with the mass of the UPDs by up to 4.3 %. Meanwhile, the blade vibration response had multiple amplitude peaks due to the dry friction damping with installed UPDs.
