      • Construction of sports-educational places using resistant and water-repellent raw materials in concrete

Wenbo Xu,Zhiqiang Zhu 국제구조공학회 2023 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.86 No.1

Any place where exercise is common, such as a club, sports hall, or school, is considered a place for teaching sports. When doing sports, a very safe environment for sports should be chosen. The athlete should consider the safety of sports facilities and equipment, and if there is a defect, he should refrain from exercising in these places. The safety of sports facilities is very effective in creating people’s sports activities, with the benefits of staying away from physical harm, enjoying sports, and having mental peace. Everyone has the right to participate in sports and recreation and to ensure that they enjoy a safe environment. The ability to manage and solve issues that may arise plays the most critical role in creating a safe environment. The quality of construction materials used for the construction of sports facilities is of great importance. In this work, the resistance and water repellency of concrete constituents for the construction of sports buildings have been investigated by nanoscience. Nano-concrete material solves the main problem of concrete surfaces, i.e., the entry of water and humidity into the structure. It also gives it a self-cleaning ability with its water repellency. Nanoparticles are placed between pores and cover the cracks, which causes roughness in the surface structure of concrete. The high roughness of the surface of the coated concrete caused its super-hydrophobicity. In hydrophobic surfaces, the higher the contact angle, the more hydrophobic the surface will be. In order to investigate the hydrophobic properties, silica nanoparticles, silica nanoparticles, and fly ash were prepared on concrete, and their properties were analyzed.

An Immunological Hypothesis of Fu’s Subcutaneous Needling Acupuncture

        Wenbo Xu,Jidong Wu,Ping Xu 사단법인약침학회 2021 Journal of Acupuncture & Meridian Studies Vol.14 No.3

Fu’s subcutaneous needling (FSN) is a novel acupuncture approach. Although it has been popularized and widely used by acupuncture practitioners, theoretical research on its mechanism of action remains lacking. This study establishes an immunological hypothesis for the efficacy of FSN basis existing knowledge in biomedical science, histology and physiology, and traditional acupuncture mechanisms. The theoretical inference indicates that FSN treatment may affect the body's immune system through subcutaneous connective tissue, similar to triggering a cobweb-like system. This article also proposes possible clinical implications of this theory, which require further studies to validate.

Surgical Options for Appropriate Length of J-Pouch Construction for Better Outcomes and Long-term Quality of Life in Patients with Ulcerative Colitis after Ileal Pouch-Anal Anastomosis

        Xu Weimin,Tang Wenbo,Ding Wenjun,Hua Zhebin,Wang Yaosheng,Ge Xiaolong,Cui Long,Wu Xiaojian,Zhou Wei,Ding Zhao,Du Peng 거트앤리버 소화기연관학회협의회 2024 Gut and Liver Vol.18 No.1

Background/Aims: Total proctocolectomy with ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA) is widely accepted as a radical surgery for refractory ulcerative colitis (UC). Definite results on the appropriate pouch length for an evaluation of the risk-to-benefit ratio regarding technical complications and long-term quality of life (QOL) are still scarce. Methods: Data on UC patients who underwent IPAA from 2008 to 2022 in four well-established pouch centers affiliated to China UC Pouch Center Union were collected. Results: A total of 208 patients with a median follow-up time of 6.0 years (interquartile range, 2.3 to 9.0 years) were enrolled. The median lengths of the patients’ short and long pouches were 14.0 cm (interquartile range, 14.0 to 15.0 cm) and 22.0 cm (interquartile range, 20.0 to 24.0 cm), respectively. Patients with a short J pouch configuration were less likely to achieve significantly improved long-term QOL (p=0.015) and were prone to develop late postoperative complications (p=0.042), such as increased defecation frequency (p=0.003) and pouchitis (p=0.035). A short ileal pouch was an independent risk factor for the development of late postoperative complications (odds ratio, 3.100; 95% confidence interval, 1.519 to 6.329; p=0.002) and impaired long-term QOL improvement (odds ratio, 2.221; 95% confidence interval, 1.218 to 4.050, p=0.009). Conclusions: The length of the J pouch was associated with the improvement in long-term QOL and the development of late post-IPAA complications. A long J pouch configuration could be a considerable surgical option for pouch construction.

Analysis of Gene Expression Profiles of Liver Stellate Cells During Liver Regeneration in Rats

        Xu Cunshuan,Chen Xiaoguang,Chang Cuifang,Wang Gaiping,Wang Wenbo,Zhang Lianxing,Zhu Qiushi,Wang Lei,Zhang Fuchun 한국분자세포생물학회 2011 Molecules and cells Vol.31 No.1

This study performed a large-scale, high-throughput analy-sis of transcriptional profiling of liver stellate cells (LSCs) at the cellular level to investigate changes in the biological activity of LSCs during rat liver regeneration (LR) and the relation of these changes to LR. First, a rat liver regeneration model was established by partial hepatectomy (PH). Stellate cells were isolated in high purity and yield from the regenerating rat liver by Percoll density gradient centrifugation and immunomagnetic bead sorting. The changes in gene expression of LSCs after PH were examined using a rat genome 230 2.0 array composed of 24622 genes. The results indicated that 10241 of the 24622 genes investigated on the array were differentially expressed in LSCs. Of the 10241 genes, 1563 known genes were related to LR, which were grouped into three major gene expression clusters according to three-fold cut-off threshold: the up-regulated gene cluster, the down-regulated gene cluster, and the cluster composed of genes showing complex changes in expression. Additionally, the genes were grouped into those involved in transcription regulation, signal transduction, transport, cellular metabolism, in-flammation and immunity by functional analysis. When gene expression profiles were combined with the results of gene functional analysis, most of the genes involved in cytokine secretion and retinol metabolism in LSCs were significantly enriched in the cluster characterized by decreased expression, whereas genes involved in lipid metabolism were mostly enriched in the cluster showing increased expression. Based on further analysis of genes expressed in a phase-dependent manner during LR, it was suggested that lipid metabolism in LSCs was enhanced in the whole regeneration process, and that immune response and cytokine secretion were impaired during all three regenerative phases.

Transcriptional profiles of biliary epithelial cells from rat regenerating liver after partial hepatectomy

        Cunshuan Xu,Xiaoguang Chen,Cuifang Chang,Gaiping Wang,Wenbo Wang,Lianxing Zhang,Qiushi Zhu,Lei Wang,Fuchun Zhang 한국유전학회 2012 Genes & Genomics Vol.34 No.3

It has been widely accepted that hepatocytes are critical for liver regeneration (LR), but very little is known about the role of biliary epithelial cells (BECs) in this event, so this study aims to manifest the relevance of BECs with LR. High purity population of BECs was obtained using Percoll gradient centrifugation combined with immunomagnetic-bead separation technique. Transcriptional profiles of BECs from rat regenerating liver after 2/3 hepatectomy were monitored with rat genome 230 2.0 array. Microarray analysis results were evaluated by RT-PCR assays. Of all the genes on the array, 1262 known genes and 1026 unknown genes were related to LR. 79 of 1262 known genes showed a ≥ 20-fold change in expression level, mainly participating in primary metabolism and inflammatory response. In contrast to the regenerating liver,BEC division did not occur at proliferative phase of LR; alterations in nucleic acid, lipid and protein metabolism were significantly different from each other or within the same substance metabolism at different phases; the active signaling pathways in priming phase were mediated mainly by G protein-coupled receptor, small GTPase and Wnt receptor. Transport-related genes showed up-regulated expression mainly in priming and proliferative phases, possibly linked to cell membrane formation and transport function recovery of BECs in the late phase. In brief, comparative analysis of biological activities of BECs and the regenerating liver reveals that bio-logical activities at the cellular level are not always consistent with those at tissue level, suggesting the necessity of cell level investigation on liver regeneration. Finally, expression of BEC markers in hepatocytes may suggest the potential of hepatocytes to transdifferentiate into BEC.

Synergistic effect of novel ionic liquid/graphene complex on the flame retardancy of epoxy nanocomposites

        Zhang Chunhong,Xu Zice,Sui Wenbo,Zang Junbo,Ao Yuhui,Wang Lu,Shang Lei 한국탄소학회 2023 Carbon Letters Vol.33 No.2

Epoxy resin (EP) is a thermosetting resin with excellent properties, but its application is limited due to its high brittleness and poor flame retardancy. Therefore, to solve this problem, a dispersion system of imidazole-containing ionic liquid ([Dmim]Es) and graphene in epoxy resin is designed based on the π–π stacking effect between imidazole and graphite layers. The study on the thermal and flame-retardant properties of the composites show that the modified [Dmim]Es–graphene nanosheets improved the flame retardancy, smoke suppression and thermal stability of epoxy resin. With the addition of 5wt% [Dmim]Es and 1% Gra, the exothermic rate (HRR) and total exothermic (THR) of the composites decrease by 35% and 30.2% compared with the untreated epoxy cross-linking, respectively. The limiting oxygen index reaches 33.4%, the UL-94 test rating reaches V-0. The characterization of mechanical properties shows that the tensile properties and impact properties increased by 13% and 30%, respectively. Through SEM observation, the addition of [Dmim]Es improves the dispersion of graphene in the EP collective and changes the mechanical fracture behavior. The results show that ionic liquid [Dmim]Es-modified graphene nanosheets are well dispersed in the matrix, which not only improves the mechanical properties of epoxy resin (EP), but also has a synergistic effect on flame retardancy. This work provides novel flame-retardant and graphene dispersion methods that broaden the range of applications of epoxy resins.

Intra-seasonal variations in urban land surface temperature in two cities in Sierra Leone: the challenge of using a single-date image to represent a whole season

        Tarawally Musa,Xu Wenbo,Kursah Matthew Biniyam,Kamara Augustine Bai 대한공간정보학회 2021 Spatial Information Research Vol.29 No.6

The use of a single date remotely sensed image to represent seasonal land surface temperature (LST) is a common practice whose reliability has not been tested, even though that might be unrepresentative of the season. Through remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS) techniques, this paper examined the effects of using a single date image to represent the whole season by quantifying the intra-seasonal (intra- and inter-month) LST variations in Freetown (coastal city) and Bo (inland city), Sierra Leone. Multi-date Landsat images within three months (two images per month) in the dry season were used to retrieve the LST using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) threshold method. The results showed that the spatial structures of LST were not uniform on different dates during the same season in both cities. LST differed by as much as 2 C for scenes within the same month and as much as 4 C between scenes of different months. The results also showed that the highest intra- and inter-month LST variations were recorded in Freetown than in Bo. This is attributed to the combined influences of the proximity to the ocean, the mountain ranges and surface characteristics in Freetown. Thus, within a season, urban surface temperature varies not just in space based on the surface characteristics but also the variations between two urban areas could be significantly high. This renders surface temperature analysis based on a single date image unrepresentative due to the inability to incorporate such variability. The use of multi-date images could be more representative and can improve studies on urban LST.
