        Graphene quantum dots decorated 3D transitional metal (Fe, Co) oxide graphene nanoribbons for oxygen reduction reaction

        In this paper, we presented a hybrid composite of graphene quantum dots (GQDs)-modified three-dimensional graphene nanoribbons (3D GNRs) composite linked by Fe3O4 and CoO nanoparticles through reflux and ultrasonic treatment with GQDs, denoted as 3D GQDs-Fe3O4/CoO@GNRs (3D GFCG). In this hybrid, the 3D GNRs framework strengthened the electrical conductivity and the synergistic effects between GQDs and 3D GFCG enhanced the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity of the nanocomposite. The results imply that decorating GQDs with other electro-catalysts is an effective strategy to synergistically improve their ORR activity.

        The bubble problem of the plasma facing material: A finite element study

        The damage of first wall material in fusion reactor due to the bubbles caused by plasma has been studied by introducing a relation between the von Mises equivalent stress and the temperature field. The locations and shapes of the bubbles and the synergetic effect between the different bubbles under steady operational conditions have been studied using the finite elements method. Under transient heat loads, plastic deformations have been found to occur, and are significantly enhanced by the presence of the bubbles. The calculated concentration locations of von Mises equivalent stress are well consistent with the observed crack positions of the tungsten surface in many test experiments. Our simulations show that the damage of the bubbles is not severe enough to lead to catastrophic failure of the tungsten armor; however, it can cause local and gradual detachment of tungsten surface, which provides a reasonable explanation for the observed pits and rough or hairy surface morphology etc. Considering the transient heat loads, the lower bound of the security thickness of the tungsten tile is estimated to be greater than 2 mm.

      • Does CSR Affect the Impact of Real Earnings Management on the Cost of Debt?

        Purpose - We explore how corporate social responsibility (CSR) plays a role in the debt market when companies engage in real earnings management. Specifically, we analyze the cost of capital of a company with real earnings management as measured by abnormally operating cash flows, abnormally production costs and discretionary expenditures, and examine the role of CSR in the relationship. Design/Methodology/Approach - The analysis sample is for Chinese publicly listed companies, the data were obtained from China Stock Market and Accounting Research (CSMAR), and the CSR data were collected from the Hexun database. We implemented OLS regression analysis by setting the proxies of real earnings management as dependent variable, cost of debt capital as a dependent variable, and CSR as a moderating variable. Findings - Our empirical results show that real earnings management significantly increases the cost of debt after controlling for discretionary accruals, another proxy variable for earnings management. Especially, we find that corporate social responsibility weakens the negative impact of real earnings management on the cost of debt. Research Implications - This study provides evidence that corporate social responsibility plays a significant role in mitigating the adverse impact of real earnings management on the debt market. Therefore, creditors in the debt market need to be more cautious in assessing the impact of real earnings management that may be underestimated due to high CSR performance.

        Somatic cell reprogrammed by oocyte: process and barricade

        Somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) is a technology in which a somatic nucleus is transferred into thecytoplasm of a matured oocyte – reconstructed embryos have the capacity to develop to term. Why somaticcells can be reprogrammed by oocytes – the answer for this question must exist in the cytoplasm of maturedoocytes. In this review, totipotent characters of matured oocytes were discussed, which may confer maturedoocytes with the capacity to reprogram somatic nucleus. Moreover, the procedure of SCNT also makes apossibility for somatic nucleus to be reprogrammed by oocytes. Compared with fertilized embryos, embryosderived from SCNT exhibit low developmental ability; the barricades in reprogramming process and theirpossible reasons were also discussed. This review maybe can benefit the mechanism research of SCNTtechnology and can make contribution for improving the efficiency of this technology.

        Fertility and prognosis assessment between bleomycin/etoposide/cisplatin and paclitaxel/carboplatin chemotherapy regimens in the conservative treatment of malignant ovarian germ cell tumors: a multicenter and retrospective study

        Objective: To evaluate the impact of bleomycin/etoposide/cisplatin (BEP) and paclitaxel/carboplatin (PC) chemotherapy regimens on the fertility and prognostic outcomes in malignant ovarian germ cell tumor (MOGCT) patients who underwent fertility-sparing surgery (FSS). Methods: A propensity score matching algorithm was performed between the BEP and PC groups. The χ2 test and the Kaplan-Meier method were used to compare the fertility outcome, disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS). The Cox proportional hazards regression analysis was used to identify risk factor of DFS. Results: We included 213 patients, 185 (86.9%) underwent BEP chemotherapy, and 28 (13.1%) underwent PC chemotherapy. The median age was 22 years (range, 8–44 years), and the median follow-up period was 63 months (range, 2–191 months). Fifty-one (29.3%) patients had a pregnancy plan, and 35 (85.4%) delivered successfully. In the before and after propensity score matching cohorts, there were no significant differences in spontaneous abortion, selective termination of pregnancy, during-pregnancy status, and live birth between the BEP and PC groups (p>0.05). Fourteen (6.6%) patients experienced recurrence, including 11 (5.9%) in the BEP group and 3 (10.7%) in the PC group. Four (1.9%) patients in the BEP group died. Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed no significant differences in DFS (p=0.328) and OS (p=0.446) between the BEP and PC groups, and the same survival results were observed in the after matching cohort. Conclusion: The PC regimen is as safe as the BEP regimen for MOGCT patients with fertility preservation treatment, and no differences were observed in fertility and clinical prognosis.
