<P>Ag/Pr6O11 catalysts supported by either Pr6O11 nanorods (Pr6O11-NRs) or nanoparticles (Pr6O11-NPs) were prepared by conventional incipient wetness impregnation. The nanocomposite of Ag/Pr6O11-NRs demonstrated a higher catalytic activity for CO oxidation than Ag/Pr6O11-NPs at lower temperatures. This improved performance may be ascribed to the mesoporous features and resultant oxygen vacancies of the Pr6O11 nanorods support, as well as the large surface area and homogeneous loading of Ag species. As a result, 98.7 and 100% CO conversions were achieved at 210 and 240 °C for Ag/Pr6O11-NRs, while Ag/Pr6O11-NPs require a temperature of 320 °C to obtain the 100% CO conversion rate. These findings reveal that Pr6O11-NRs is the preferable support, comparative to Pr6O11-NPs, for Ag/Pr6O11 catalysts, for CO oxidation.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/iecred/2017/iecred.2017.56.issue-39/acs.iecr.7b02530/production/images/medium/ie-2017-02530c_0006.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/ie7b02530'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>
Thermal shock resistance of porous alumina ceramics with different internal and external porosity
Maochang Cao,Xinxin Jin,Le Chen,Limin Dong,Bo Li,Xianyou Zhang 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2021 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.22 No.4
Porous alumina ceramics with porosity of 24.42-41.10% were prepared by gel casting process with polymethylmethacrylatemicrosphere(PMMA) as pore-forming agent. The mechanical/thermal properties and porosity of the obtained ceramic areinfluenced by two structures that composed of spherical shaped micro pores(external pores) depending on PMMA content andirregular sub-micro pores(internal pores) formed by the stacking of ceramic particles. Mechanical properties and thermalconductivity decreased as the porosity increased. The thermal shock resistance of the samples was excellent when the porositywas 33.45%. This phenomenon caused by the matching of external and internal pores is inconsistent with the trend of thermalshock fracture resistance and thermal shock damage resistance varying with porosity in previous researches. In the case of thesame total porosity, the introduction of external pores improved the mechanical properties and critical temperature difference, reduced the thermal conductivity and fracture surface energy that affected the thermal stability of the material.
Epidemiological Characteristics of Norovirus Outbreaks in Shenyang from 2017 to 2021
Qi Ying,Dong Xinxin,Cheng Xiaowei,Xu Han,Wang Jin,Wang Bing,Chen Ye,Sun Baijun,Zhang Linlin,Yao Yan 한국미생물학회 2023 The journal of microbiology Vol.61 No.4
Norovirus is one of the leading causes of acute gastroenteritis outbreaks worldwide. This study aimed to identify the epidemiological characteristics of norovirus outbreaks and to provide evidence for public health entities. Specimens and epidemiological survey data were collected to determine if there were differences in the attack rate of norovirus in terms of the year, season, transmission route, exposure setting, and region and to determine whether there were relationships between the reporting interval, the number of illnesses in a single outbreak and the duration of the outbreak. Norovirus outbreaks were reported throughout the year, with seasonal characteristics (i.e., high rates in spring and winter). Among all regions in Shenyang with the exception of Huanggu and Liaozhong, norovirus outbreaks had been reported, and the primary genotype was GII.2[P16]. Vomiting was the most common symptom. The main places of occurrence were childcare institutions and schools. The person-to-person route was the main transmission route. The median duration of norovirus was 3 days (IQR [interquartile range]: 2–6 days), the median reporting interval was 2 days (IQR: 1–4 days), the median number of illnesses in a single outbreak was 16 (IQR: 10–25); there was a positive correlation between these parameters. Norovirus surveillance and genotyping studies still need to be further strengthened to increase knowledge regarding the pathogens and their variant characteristics, to better characterize the patterns of norovirus outbreaks and to provide information for outbreak prevention. Norovirus outbreaks should be detected, reported and handled early. Public health entities and the government should develop corresponding measures for different seasons, transmission routes, exposure settings, and regions.

Background/Aims: This animal study aimed to define the underlying cellular mechanisms of intestinal barrier dysfunction. Methods: Rats were fed 4% with dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) to induce experimental colitis. We analyzed the sugars in 24-hour urine output by high pressure liquid chromatography. The expression of claudins, mannan-binding lectin (MBL), and MBL-associated serine proteases 2 (MASP-2) were detected in the colonic mucosa by immunohistochemistry, and apoptotic cells in the colonic epithelium were detected by the terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated deoxyuridine triphosphate nick-end labeling method assay. Results: The lactulose and sucralose excretion levels in the urine of rats with DSS-induced colitis were significantly higher than those in the control rats. Mannitol excretion was lower and lactulose/mannitol ratios and sucralose/mannitol ratios were significantly increased compared with those in the control group (p<0.05). Compared with the controls, the expression of sealing claudins (claudin 3, claudin 5, and claudin 8) was significantly decreased, but that of claudin 1 was increased. The expression of pore-forming claudin 2 was upregulated and claudin 7 was downregulated in DSS-induced colitis. The epithelial apoptotic ratio was 2.8%±1.2% in controls and was significantly increased to 7.2%±1.2% in DSS-induced colitis. The expression of MBL and MASP-2 in the intestinal mucosa showed intense staining in controls, whereas there was weak staining in the rats with colitis. Conclusions: There was increased intestinal permeability in DSS-induced colitis. Changes in the expression and distribution of claudins, increased epithelial apoptosis, and the MASP-2-induced immune response impaired the intestinal epithelium and contributed to high intestinal permeability.
