Georgenia faecalis sp. nov. isolated from the faeces of Tibetan antelope

Two aerobic, Gram-stain-positive, non-motile, non-sporulating coccoid strains, designated ZLJ0423T and ZLJ0321, were isolated from the faeces of Tibetan antelope (Pantholops hodgsonii). Their optimal temperature, NaCl concentration and pH for growth were 28°C, 0.5% (w/v) NaCl and pH 7.5, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strains ZLJ0423T and ZLJ0321 were very similar to each other (99.8%) and had a sequence similarity of 97.0% with Georgenia satyanarayanai NBRC 107612T and Georgenia subflava CGMCC 1.12782T. Phylogenomic analysis based on 688 core genes indicated that these strains formed a clade with G. satyanarayanai NBRC 107612T and Georgenia wutianyii Z294T. The predominant cellular fatty acids were anteiso-C15:0, anteiso-C15:1 A and C16:0. The major menaquinone was MK-8(H4). The cell-wall amino acids consisted of alanine, lysine, glycine and aspartic acid, with lysine as the diagnostic diamino acid. Diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylinositol mannosides and two unidentified lipids formed the polar lipid profile. The DNA G + C content of both isolates was 73.9 mol%. The digital DNA–DNA hybridization value between strains ZLJ0423T and ZLJ0321 was 91.2%, but their values with closely related species and other available type strains of the genus Georgenia were lower than the 70% threshold. On the basis of polyphasic taxonomic data, strains ZLJ0423T and ZLJ0321 represent a novel species within the genus Georgenia, for which the name Georgenia faecalis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is ZLJ0423T (= CGMCC 1.13681T = JCM 33470T).

Saccharomyces boulardii is the best knownprobiotic yeast, widely used as a therapeutic agent for thetreatment or prevention of diarrhea and intestine disorders. In the present work, we established a target gene disruptionsystem for S. boulardii based on the Cre-loxP system usedfor S. cerevisiae and other fungi by screening out selectionmarkers, working out the transformation method, andconstructing essential plasmids for S. boulardii. Theestablished system was successfully applied to the URA3gene disruption and created an ura3 null mutant strain ofS. boulardii. The system can be used for PCR mediatedgene disruption, cloning mediated gene disruption, andreintroduction of the deleted gene back to the mutant. Allthe introduced exogenous DNAs in the gene disruptionprocedures were removed from the final mutant strainexcept the two 34 bp loxP pieces left in deleted gene loci.

A graphene (GN)/carbon nanotubes (CNTs) nanocomposite electrode material were prepared via reduction of exfoliated graphite oxides in the presence of CNTs pretreated by mixed acid. The GN/CNTs nanocomposite characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectrum (Raman) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) has a layered structure with CNTs uniformly sandwiched between the GN sheets, which efficiently decreased the agglomeration GN sheets. Electrochemical data demonstrate that the GN/CNT exhibited higher specific capacitance than that of graphene.
Changes in Protein Phosphorylation during Salivary Gland Degeneration in Haemaphysalis longicornis

The ticks feed large amount of blood from their hosts and transmit pathogens to the victims. The salivary gland plays an important role in the blood feeding. When the female ticks are near engorgement, the salivary gland gradually loses its functions and begins to rapidly degenerate. In this study, data-independent acquisition quantitative proteomics was used to study changes in the phosphorylation modification of proteins during salivary gland degeneration in Haemaphysalis longicornis. In this quantitative study, 400 phosphorylated proteins and 850 phosphorylation modification sites were identified. Trough RNA interference experiments, we found that among the proteins with changes in phosphorylation, apoptosis-promoting Hippo protein played a role in salivary gland degeneration.

This paper addresses the genetic algorithm (GA) optimization and the linear quadratic (LQ) structurebased predictive functional control (PFC) for batch processes under non-repetitive unknown disturbances and partialactuator faults. First, by adopting the extended non-minimal state space (ENMSS) model in which the state variablesand the tracking error are united, the new state vector with more degrees is provided for the controller design. Inorder to enhance the ensemble control performance under the PFC structure, GA is adopted for the optimizationof the weighting matrix in the controller. The case study on the injection velocity control in an injection moldingmachine demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed PFC scheme against various disadvantages.
An X-ray Inspection System for Illegal Object Classification based on Computer Vision

Security checks at airport are of importance to any safe flight. Traditional method for security check is to check the luggage manually. However, this method needs lots of human labor and time. It is desired to automatically check x-ray image of the luggage with computer vision. In this paper, the illegal object classification system is implemented. First, we introduce a computer vision based x-ray inspection system for Illegal object classification. Then we propose a method by combining Taruma feature based on Contourlet transform and histogram. Finally, we apply the random forests classifier to classify these features from the illegal objects. Experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively distinguish different kinds of illegal objects.
