Pseudolaric acid B was isolated from Pseudolarix kaempferi Gordon (Pinaceae) and was evaluated for the anti-cancer effect in HeLa cells. We ob-served that pseudolaric acid B inhibited cel proliferation and induced apoptosis in a time- and dose-dependent manner. HeLa cels treated with pseudolaric acid B showed typical characteristics of apoptosis including the morphological changes and DNA fragmentation. JNK inhibitor, SP60125, markedly inhibited pseudolaric acid B-induced cel death. In addition, Bcl-2 expression was down-re-gulated while Bax protein level was up-regulated. Caspase-3 inhibitor, z-DEVD-fmk, partially blocked pseudolaric acid B-induced cel death, and the expression of two classical caspase substrates, PARP and ICAD, were both decreased in a time- pase activation.

Excessive amount of higher alcohols in alcoholicbeverages causes unwell and side-effect for consumersalthough adequate consumption offers joy and pleasure. Therefore, reducing higher alcohols in alcoholic beveragesis necessary. We used nitrogen compensation to reducehigher alcohols with Chinese rice wine as an experimentalmodel. Higher alcohols including isobutyl alcohols, isoamylalcohols, and b-phenethyl alcohols were significantlydecreased by 19.27, 23.03 and 19.43%, respectively, when200 mg/L (NH4)2HPO4, 5% (w/v) yeast, and 11% wheatKoji were added to fermentation broth. Meanwhile, important quality parameters remained unchanged includingfree amino acids, organic acids, biogenic amines, andesters. The expression of glutamate dehydrogenase 1 gene(GDH1) and glutamine synthetase gene (GLN1) was significantlyenhanced, 26.9- and 1.9-folds respectively. Theseresults suggest that ammonium compensation could effectivelydecrease higher alcohols in Chinese rice wine byactivating glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) pathway inammonium assimilation.

The AT motif-binding factor (ATBF1) not only interacts with protein inhibitor of activated signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) (PIAS3) to suppress STAT3 signaling regulating embryo early development and cell differentiation, but is required for early activation of the pituitary specific transcription factor 1 (Pit1) gene (also known as POU1F1) critically affecting mammalian growth and development. The goal of this study was to detect novel nucleotide variations and haplotypes structure of the ATBF1 gene, as well as to test their associations with growth-related traits in goats. Herein, a total of seven novel single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) (SNP 1-7) within this gene were found in two well-known Chinese native goat breeds. Haplotypes structure analysis demonstrated that there were four haplotypes in Hainan black goat while seventeen haplotypes in Xinong Saanen dairy goat, and both breeds only shared one haplotype (hap1). Association testing revealed that the SNP2, SNP5, SNP6, and SNP7 loci were also found to significantly associate with growth-related traits in goats, respectively. Moreover, one diplotype in Xinong Saanen dairy goats significantly linked to growth related traits. These preliminary findings not only would extend the spectrum of genetic variations of the goat ATBF1 gene, but also would contribute to implementing marker-assisted selection in genetics and breeding in goats.

This paper developed a thermal-assisted single point incremental forming (SPIF) method for biodegradablecomposite sheets made from jute woven fabric and polylactic acid (PLA) resin. A forming device equipped with a thermalradiation plate was designed for the SPIF of the composite sheets on a three-axis CNC milling machine. A three-tier-platemethod in which the composite sheet was sandwiched between an iron plate and an alumina plate was adopted to clamp thecomposite sheet. The proposed SPIF method was demonstrated on forming of a truncated pyramid part. The effects ofclamping method, toolpath, step size and thickness on the formability of the composite were investigated. It was found thatthe three-tier-plate fixture method was crucial for the successful implementation of the SPIF of the composite. The toolpathhad a significant effect on the forming depth. While the surface quality was mainly determined by the step size. The thicknessof the composite sheet had a positive effect on is forming depth.
