      • 효모에서 분리한 단백 메틸레스의 특성에 관한 연구

김보경,백운기,조만희,김창세 순천향의학연구소 1997 Journal of Soonchunhyang Medical Science Vol.3 No.2

A cytochrome C - specific protein methylase Ⅲ was purified approximately 63 - fold from Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The unmethylated cytochrome C served as substrate for the enzyme. Horse heart apocytochrome C was found to be a better substrate than the native horse heart cytochrome C. This observation suggests that the in vivo methylation of cytochrome C in the yeast probably occurs before cytochrome C become attached to the mitochondria. In partly purified protein methylase Ⅲ the optimun pH is about 9.0, the enzyme activity is linearly proportional to the amount of enzyme protein up to about 30㎍ and also to time up to 15min. The Km values for horse heart cytochrome C and S - adenosyl - L- methionine were 1.33mM and 40㎛, respectively. S - adenosyl - L - homocysteine was found to be a competitive inhibitor for S - adenosyl - L - methionine, and the Ki value was 2.7 μM. The molecular weight of the enzyme was approximately 97,000, determined on sephadex S- 200 gel filtration. The regulation of cellular cytochrome C and the protein methylase Ⅲ are not coordinately related in a parallel manner.

      • A Possibls Influence of a Single Methyl Substitution on the Tertiary Structure of a Protein Molecule

Paik, Woon Ki,Kim, Sangduk 성균관대학교 약학연구소 1990 成均藥硏論文集 Vol.2 No.1

Abstract-Biological effects caused by the posttranslational methylation of certain side chains in protein has been thought to be due solely to changes in charge, steric relations or hydrophobicity at the site of the methyl group. However, there is increasing evidence that the presence of CH_3 can also incuce a “global”effect on the protein molecule. Some of the evidence is described here.

Vol.14 No.1

Dr. Rosetta Hall, an American missionary physician, and Dr. Jeong-hee Gil, a young Korean physician, founded the Joseon (Keijo) Women`s Training Institute in 1928. Between 1933 and 1937, Dr. Gil and her husband, Dr. Kim Tak-won, maintained and financed the medical institute. Supporting the institute placed a heavy burden on the young doctors who were just establishing their private medical practice. Despite this burden, they undertook the work necessary to elevate the institute to a full medical college. In order to generate the substantial funds needed to establish the medical college, they created a foundation for the “creation of a women`s medical college” in 1934 and solicited funding. In 1937, a philanthropist interested in furthering education, Mr. Kim Jong-ik, agreed to donate the funding necessary to elevate the institute to a medical college. Mr. Kim, however, unexpectedly contracted dysentery and died. In his will, Mr. Kim bequeathed a portion of his estate to upgrading the institute to a medical college. The executor, contrary to Mr. Kim`s intent as set forth in his will, however, did not use the funds to elevate the institute, but rather established a completely new women`s medial college. The executor`s actions were a clear violation of Drs. Kim`s and Gil`s legal rights as beneficiaries under the will. They, nonetheless, accepted the outcome, because challenging the executor`s actions under Japanese rule would have been futile as Dr. Kim was a noted anti-Japanese patriot well known to the Japanese. Moreover, Sato Gozo had been Dr. Kim`s teacher at the Keijo Medical College. Most importantly, their dream of establishing a women`s medical college in Korea had been realized regardless of how. Regardless of whether the institute had been elevated to a medical college or not, Drs. Kim Tak-won and Gil Jeong-hee made great sacrifices to further the education of women medical doctors in Korea and should be recognized for their great contributions to the creation of Korea Women`s Medical College.

      • Ephedrine 作用에 미치는 Iproniazid의 影響

        白基完,金聖淑,李敬熙,李芸求 최신의학사 1972 最新醫學 Vol.15 No.10

It is well known that iproniazid inhibits the monoamine oxidase (MAO) activity in all tissues. And that ephedrine is said to have an inhibiting action on the MAO activity. In this paper, in order to study the influence of iproniazid on some pharmacological actions of ephedrine, the action of ephedrine on the blood pressure, auricular and intestinal motilities of rabbits pretreated with iproniazid were compared with the ephedrine action on those of control rabbits. The results obtained were as follows; 1. The pressor effect of ephedrine in rabbits pretreated with iproniazid had a tendency to decrease in comparison with that of control rabbits. 2. The augmentary effect of ephedrine on the excised auricle tended to increase in rabbits pretreated with iproniazid. 3. The inhibitory effect of ephedrine on the excised intestine was antagonized in rabbits pretreated with iproniazid. When the excised intestine incubated with iproniazid in vitro for 3 minutes, the inhibitory effect of ephedrine was antagonized in small doses and potentiated in large doses.

      • Inhabiting Condition and Preservation of Black-faced Spoonbill around Ganghwa County

        Paik, In-Hwan,Chun, Byung-Sun,Kim, In-Gyu,Lee, Ki-Sup,Jin, Seon-Deok,Yu, Jae-Pyung,Lee, Han-Soo,Paek, Woon-Kee national science museum of korea 2010 Journal of Korean nature Vol.3 No.1

Regular monitoring on the Black-faced Spoonbill and survey on their breeding were performed in the vicinity of Ganghwa County from August 2002 till July 2003 in order to understand the inhabiting conditions of the endangered species of the bird (EN) defined by IUCN. Maximum 230 individuals of the Black-faced Spoonbill around the County were observed at the southern tidal flat of Ganghwa, which was the largest and 51 at Gyodongdo Island, 55 at Boreumdo Island while one at Seokmodo Island. No Black-faced Spoonbill was observed at Jumundo Island. For the inhabiting status of the bird as per the time of survey, 203 individuals were observed in August 2002, which was recorded as the largest of its kinds, on the other hand, only 5 individuals were found in March, which was the least. No Black-faced Spoonbill was observed from November till February of the following year. For the areas of survey, more individuals of the endangered bird were observed at the southern tidal flat of Ganghwa during the period of survey than other areas and it is because the bird took a rest at the southern tidal flat of Ganghwa and fed their foods. Breeding of the bird was verified at Yudo Island, Seokdo Island, Bido Island and Suribongdol Island and the breeding status as per each island is 100 individuals at Yudo Island, 10 at Seokdo Island, 8 at Bido Island and 5 at Suribongdol Island. On the other hand, the Black-faced Spoonbill found at the southern tidal flat of Ganghwa fed their foods at the nearby rice paddy during May and June. Heavy rainfall in 2007 and the pressure on developing the area surrounding Ganghwdo Island may force the endangered birds to breed at the artificial island of the Incheon Songdo International City or the main inhibiting place is in danger of vanishing. In order to protect the Black-faced Spoonbill, therefore, development and use of not only the tidal flat but also the rice paddy that is the wetland with fresh water and shallow tidal flat should be minimized. Also, converting to the eco-friendly development plan of the reclaimed land and collecting information to restore the inhabiting place of Black-faced Spoonbill is essential.
