In this study, we have measured scintillating light generated in a fiber-optic dosimeter by high energy photon and electron beams using a charge-coupled device. The intensity of Cerenkov lights are also measured and characterized as functions of incident angles and energies of the high energy beams from a clinical linear accelerator. To minimize or remove Cerenkov light, a simple subtraction method using a background optical fiber and wavelength discrimination method using optical filters are investigated. Also, the intensities of Cerenkov light induced by high energy photon and electron beams are compared.

A new design for a lightweight flatbed trailer with high bending and torsional stiffness is presented by using an integrated CAE-based optimization procedure. The integrated design procedure consists of two main steps: topology optimization and thickness optimization. During topology optimization, a creative frame layout different from existing ladder-type frames can be obtained by searching the best layout out of all possible layouts of a simplified design domain model. After approximating the result of topology optimization as a thin-walled structure, the approximated thicknesses of the plates are optimized to minimize the mass of a trailer.

In this study, a fiber-optic bundle sensor has been developed using water-equivalent organic scintillating fibers for photon beam measurement. Beam penumbra and percent depth doses(PDD) are measured according to the depth of the photon beam. This sensor has many advantages such as high resolution, real-time measurement and ease of calibration over conventional radiation measurement devices.

Objective: TNF-α has a pivotal role in the development of inflammation on mucous lesion in Behcet`s disease like Crohn`s disease. We examined three single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of TNF receptor gene of intestinal Behcet`s disease and Behcet`s disease without gastrointestinal involvement. Methods: DNA of peripheral blood samples was obtained from 43 patients with intestinal Behcet`s disease, 59 patients with Behcet`s disease without gastrointestinal involvement and 60 healthy controls. After polymerase chain reaction (PCR), we examined SNPs of TNF-α gene (-308, -238) and TNF receptor gene (-1493, -196, -1466) by SNaPshot assay. We also analyzed reconstruction of haplotypes of three TNF receptor genes. Results: No significant difference was observed in the distribution of TNF-α gene (-308, -238) and TNF receptor gene (-1493, -196, -1466) polymorphisms among the groups. Haplotype reconstruction analysis of three TNF receptor genes showed difference in allele group of (T-T-G) (-1493/-196/-1493) between patients with intestinal Behcet`s disease and Behcet`s disease without gastrointestinal involvement (p<0.05). However, other allele groups revealed no difference among the groups. Conclusion: The role of TNF-α gene (-308, -238) polymorphisms and TNF receptor gene (-1493, -196, -1466) polymorphisms in the pathogenesis of Behcet`s disease is not supported by this data. Haplotype reconstruction analysis showed that haplotype of T-T-G (TNFR2, -1493/-196/-1466) in Behcet`s disease may have protective effect on gastrointestinal involvement of this disease.

Background Pediatric hand burns are a difficult problem because they lead to serious hand deformities with functional impairment due to rapid growth during childhood. Therefore, adequate management is required beginning in the acute stage. Our study aims to establish surgical guidelines for a primary full-thickness skin graft (FTSG) in pediatric hand burns, based on long-term observation periods and existing studies. Methods From January 2000 to May 2011, 210 patients underwent primary FTSG. We retrospectively studied the clinical course and treatment outcomes based on the patients' medical records. The patients' demographics, age, sex, injury site of the fingers, presence of web space involvement, the incidence of postoperative late deformities, and the duration of revision were critically analyzed. Results The mean age of the patients was 24.4 months (range, 8 to 94 months), consisting of 141 males and 69 females. The overall observation period was 6.9 years (range, 1 to 11 years) on average. At the time of the burn, 56 cases were to a single finger, 73 to two fingers, 45 to three fingers, and 22 to more than three. Among these cases, 70 were burns that included a web space (33.3%). During the observation, 25 cases underwent corrective operations with an average period of 40.6 months. Conclusions In the volar area, primary full-thickness skin grafting can be a good indication for an isolated injured finger, excluding the web spaces, and injuries of less than three fingers including the web spaces. Also, in the dorsal area, full-thickness skin grafting can be a good indication. However, if the donor site is insufficient and the wound is large, split-thickness skin grafting can be considered.
Bluetooth Network for Group Behavior of Multi-Agent Robotic System
Seo, Sang-Wook,Ko, Kwang-Eun,Hwang, Se-Hee,Jang, In-Hun,Sim, Kwee-Bo Korean Institute of Intelligent Systems 2007 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL of FUZZY LOGIC and INTELLIGE Vol.7 No.1
Multi-Agent Robotic System (MARS) is a system that independent autonomous robots in the restricted environments infer their status from pre-assigned conditions and operate their jobs through the cooperation with each other. In the MARS, a robot contains sensor part to percept the situation around themselves, communication part to exchange information, and actuator part to do given work. Especially, in order to cooperate with other robots, communicating with other robots is one of the essential elements. Because Bluetooth has many advantages such as low power consumption, small size module package, and various standard protocols, Bluetooth is rated as one of the efficient communicating technologies which can apply to small-sized robot system. In this paper, we will develop Bluetooth communicating system for autonomous robots. For the purpose, the communication system must have several features-separated module, flexible interface. We will discuss how to construct and what kind of procedure to develop the communicating system.
