        Characteristics of Korean ginseng varieties of Gumpoong, Sunun, Sunpoong, Sunone, Cheongsun, and Sunhyang

        Background: Ginseng (Panax ginseng Meyer) is an important medicinal herbs in Asia. However, ginsengvarieties are less developed. Method: To developed ginseng varieties, a pure line selection method was applied in this study. Results: Gumpoong was testing of 4-yr-old specimens in 2002, the proportions of the below-groundroots that were rusty colored for Gumpoong was 1.29 in Daejeon and 1.45 in Eumseong, whereas theproportions for its yellow berry variant were 2.60 and 2.45 in the two regions, respectively. Thus theGumpoong was resistant to root rust. Sunpoong has a high yielding property. Its average root weight is70.6 g for 6-yr-old roots. Its yield is 2.9 kg/1.62m2 and the rate of heaven- and earth-grade product is20.9%, which is very high compared to 9.4% for Yunpoong. Sunone is resistance to root rot and thesurvival rate of 4-yr-old roots was 44.4% in 1997, whereas that of the violet-stem variant landrace was21.7%. Sunhyang has content of arginyl-fructosyl-glucose (AFG), which produces the unique scent of redginseng, is 95.1 mmol/g and greater than the 30.8 mmol/g of Chunpoong in 6-yr-old plants. Sunun andCheongsun are being nurtured to protect genetic resources. Conclusion: Developed ginsneg varieties will be used as the basis for the protection of genetic resourcesand breeding. Jang-Ho Lee

      • 저전력형 부탄가스 감지소자의 제조 및 그 특성

        Low power consuming butane gas sensors were fabricated using mica substrate which is a thin and elastic insulator. To increase the sensitivity and the stability, various catalyst layers were formed on SnO_(2) thin layer. Among them, SnO_(2) /Pt(17Å)/Pd(30Å) and SnO_(2) /Pt(8Å )/Pd(30Å) thin layer showed good characteristics in stability and dependance of temperature and humidity. The size of fabricated sensors was 1 x 3 mm^(2) and the consumed power was lower than 100 mW at operating temperature(250℃). For 2000 ppm butane concentration, the response time and the recovery time were about 5 seconds and 15 seconds respectively. The sensitivity of the sensors was about 80 % for 5000 ppm butane concentration.

      • Shot-Peening이 疲勞强度에 미치는 影響에 關한 實驗的 硏究

        In this paper, to study shot-peening effect on the fatigue strength in elevated temperature, 10 and 15 min shot-peened smooth specimens which were made of SGD 41-D steel were experimented by the rotary bending test machine. And in order to study peening time effect on the fatigue strength, 20min shot-peened specimens were tested. The results are followed: 1. In the case of 200℃ test temperature, denoted at 10? cycle fatigue strength of not shot-peened, 10min and 15min shot-peened specimens tended to decrease 6.5%, 8.8%, 8.6% each and at 300℃ test temperature, these were increased 11.5%, 1.5% and 2.0% each compared with the fatigue strengths at room temperature. In case of 450℃ test temperature, these fatigue strengths were decreased just little bit. 2. Fatigue strength was shown the sequence; 15min shot-peened specimens, 10min shot-peened specimens and not shot-peened specimens at each temperature. The differance of the fatigue strength of not shot-peended specimens tested at each temperature was larger than that of any other specimens. 3. In case of room temperature and 200℃, the fatigue strength of not shot-peened specimens increased 20%, 18% as compared with the fatigue strength of not shot-peened specimens, and in case of 300℃ and 450℃ the difference of fatigue strength were very small. 4. In case of room temperature, the fatigue strength attendant upon peening time, shot-peened 10min increased 18.5% than not shot-peened, shot-peende 15min increased 3.2% than shot-peened 10min, and shot-peened 20min increased 1.1% than shot-peended 15min specimens. This results show that the fatigue strength increase ratio was diminish attendant upon peening time increment.

      • 두경부 편평상피암에서의 MIB-1, p53, bcl-2와 apoptosis의 발현 및 상호 연관성

        Objective : Squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck represents approximately 2.0∼4.0% of all malignant tumors, with an etiology closely associated with smoking, drinking and various genetic alterations. The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation of MIB-1, p53, bcl-2 and apoptosis according to degree of differentitation of squamous cell carcinoma. Methods and Material : forty-eight cases of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck were selected for this study. MIB-1, p53, bc1-2 expression rate were studied by iromunogistochemical staining and the number of apoptosis observed by TUNEL method. Results : The expressioins of MIB-1, p53, bcl-2 and apoptosis were found in 56.3%, 50.0%, 14.6%, 85.4%, of 48 cases of squamous cell carcinoma, respectively. The expression of MIB-1, p53 and apoptosis were more higher in poorly differentiated cases than well differentiated cases. MIB-1 expression was related with p53 mutation (p<0.05) and apoptosis rate(p<0.05). Conclusion : From these results. the expressions of MIB-1, bcl-2 and apoptosis were related with degree of differentiation of squamous cell carcinoma and correlation among these parameters.

        대학 농업경제학과의 교육현황과 실태 분석

        Many forces have challenged to agriculture and educational systems in agricultural college. At present, their main forces are rapid social changes and educational reform including the structural transformation of college system, reorganization of curriculum, diverse recruitment of student, and specialization of university development. The purposes of this study were to analyze the present status and educational problems of agricultural economics in university and to suggest directions for improvement of that in the changing and reforming age. Those objectives were carried out through the literature and mail survey. Ten departments of agricultural economics in university were investigated to collect the educational philosophy and goals, curriculum and instructions, research and other educational activities. Also, to study about the adjustment and values on their major of the students of agricultural economics, data were collected from 752 students at 10 departments of agricultural economics by administering a questionnaire. One of the basic data for curriculum development of department is taxonomy of agricultural economics. Major areas can be classified and organized by the knowledge of structure of taxonomy of agricultural economics. Unfortunately, there is no taxonomy of agricultural economics which will be agreed by agricultural economists and will be useful data for curriculum development. Analyzing the curriculum of 10 departments, we can find that the subject matters of curricular are almost same among the departments of the each university. Most of departments of agricultural economics operate both of undergraduate and graduate program without considering of quality of faculty members, students, and facilities. One of the reasons for lack of characteristics of each department of agricultural economics is that educational objectives of each department are not developed objectively and not described exactly. The educational objectives and goals of agricultural economics should be defined with identity and the justification of agricultural economics set up in the post-industrialized society in changing world. Curriculum of the department of agricultural economics are also reorganized to meet the development of agricultural science and industry, needs of the students, the society and notion.

      • 사질토지반 앵커식 널말뚝 설계를 위한 흙막이 해석법 적용에 관한 연구

        The sheet-pile wall has been generally used as a temporary retaining structure when the underground excavation is performed. The design parameters of sheet-pile wall are penetration depth, anchor pull and maximum bending moment. It was compared the methods of conventional design, using the design charts and bracing system design by analyzing and estimating the design parameters of sheet-pile wall in sand. It was suggested that can be applied the bracing system analysis method to the designing the sheet-pile wall.

      • 알루미늄材의 彈塑性破壞靭性評價에 關한 硏究

        It has been very important to evaluate the J_IC in Elastic-Plastic Fracture toughness test and to develope the certain method that we can precisely obtain the J_IC from any material. In this study, R-curve Method, Stretch Zone Method, and Ultrasonic Method are used to evaluate the J_IC of Aluminums, i.e., Al 2024, Al 5083, Al 7075. The echo energy of Ultrasonic Method increased rapidly in the unstable crack growth stage and then it is decreased at less rapidly slope. Therefore, the value of J_IC exists between linearly decreased region and the point of deviation. J_IC can be obtained precisely by Stretch Zone Method and approximately obtained by Ultrasonic Method. Stretch Zone Method can be used to evaluate J_IC very quantitively, but we have the trouble with the method in measurement. Ultrasonic method is required that the research for the more exact evaluation about correlation between echo energy and the crack openning behavior of precrack tip will be continued.

      • 분말야금법으로 제조된 2124AI 합금의 빠른변형률속도 초소성 거동

        Ceramic whisker or particulate reinforced aluminum based metal matrix composites show high room temperature strength, but their low formability makes it difficult to form into desired shapes. By superplastic deformation, their formability can be improved and it is possible to produce complex parts for automotive aerospace simultaneously instead of many near-net-shape forming operations. This study has been carried out to investigate the high temperature mechanical and superplastic properties in 2124Al alloy. SRC(Strain Rate Change) tests show that the value of n(stress exponent) is around 3 at high strain rate and above 5 at low strain rate. It was turned out that 212Al matrix alloy exhibited reasonably high tensile elongation above 250% with the broad range of temperature and strain rate. Especially, at 550℃, both materials showed very high elongation failure up to 700% for 2124Al alloy. The strength comparison is lower strength then 2124Al composites were obtained that the composite is lower strength than 2124Al alloy at superplastic region.

      • 남강댐 유역에서의 HEC-HMS 모형의 적용성

        In order to find out the runoff characteristics in Nam River Dam basin, hydrological data such as rainfall, water level, and discharge, have been collected and measured. Using the collected and measured data for the study area during 1990-1999, hydrological parameters were estimated. The HEC-HMS(Hydrologic Modeling System) model was used to review the applicability of flood hydrographs and the results of simulation were compared to the observed data and Stroge Function Method for several flood hydrographs in this study. From the results of analysis, the following conclusions were obtained: First, the HEC-HMS model showed better results for the capabilities of regenerating flood hydrographs Second, the fluctuation shape of flood hydrographs for the rainfall distribution concentrated on head have been shown peak time to be relatively short for other rainfall distribution. Third, for forecasting and warning of flood occurrence in future, it is necessary that the existing hydrological data were made good and hydrological data were accumulated more. Also, using the HEC-HMS model to complement the Storage Function Method, it is possible that forecasting and warning flood occurrence is progressive in Nam River Dam.
