        Malignant peritoneal mesothelioma is a rare neoplasm that arises from the mesothelium of a serosal cavity and is a rapidly fatal disease with a median survival of 4 to 12 months for untreated cases. Recently, we experienced a case with malignant peritoneal mesothelioma who was suspected hepatocelluar carcioma by abdominal CT scan and was confirmed by biopsy including immunohistochemical stain(calretinin) after surgery. We performed tumor excisions and wedge resection of the liver(segment Ⅷ)and inserted Tencoff catheter in abdominal cavity at 25th day of post-operation. We treated with intraperitoneal paclitaxel(25mg/m^(2)/day for 5 days) six courses monthly. She was well tolerable and is still living without any evidence of recurrence for 14th month of post-operation.

      • 수용액에서 유로퓸(Ⅲ)의 전기분광화학적 연구

        It is possible that electrochemical reduction changes of Eu(Ⅲ) are observed by fluorescence spectroelectrochemical methods. Eu(Ⅲ) is electrochemically reduced at cathodic potential in the in the mixture of 5.0 x 10^(-3) M Eu(Ⅲ) and 0.1 M sodium benzoate containing 0.1 M LiClO₄ as supporting electrolyte on a pt or PIGE(Paraffin Impregnated Graphite Electrode). Sodium benzoate was used as energy donor because of small absorption cross section of Eu(Ⅲ). The Eu-complex formed by Eu(Ⅲ) and benzoate exhibits the hypersensitive peak at 618 nm corresponding to the _(5)D^(0)→_(7)F² transition. Under the of reduction potential of Eu(Ⅲ), the hypersensitive emission peak gradually decreases and a new and large absorption peak regarded as the 4f→5d transition of Eu(Ⅱ) appears at 248 nm and 328 nm. This is considered that the new absorption peak possessing large molar absorption coefficient can be used for the analysis of Eu(Ⅲ).

        An Ninety-year old female patient was transferred to the operating room for hip arthroplasty under regional anesthesia. Pulmonary (unction studies revealed severe restrictive pattern, and cardiomegaly noted in her chest X-ray examination. For the prevention of hypothermia, we first prepared blanketrol and IV line warmer and attempted epidural anesthesia, but we failed. We then did spinal anesthesia which was successfully administered. After performing regional anesthesia and injection of methylmethacrylate bone cement into the intramedullary canal, blood pressure and pulse was stable and no other evidence of instability. In the recovery room, she did not show any other symtoms, and three weeks later, she was discharged hospital without any sequelaes.

        Porous silicon, electrochemically etched in HF solution, exhibits a unique properties including great potential for use as a light emitter as well as being suited to incorporation into biological systems. This application leads to the types of silicon known as 'light emitting silicon' and 'biosilicon'. The processes and techniques leading to the fabrication of these materials are closely related. Visible electroluminescence from the cathodically biased porous silicon electrode in electrolyte solution containing persulfate ions(S2O82-) exhibits a blue shift with increasing applied potential. The blue shift can be attributed to the formation of accumulation layer and to the Fermi level pinning in the porous silicon. However, the formation, luminescence, or reaction mechanism and electrochemical properties of porous silicon were still not completely understood in every detail. Although the surface of porous silicon layer was covered with hydrogen produced in as etchant, its hydrophobic property exhibited a abnormal current-decay curves under constant potential.

      • 전도성 폴리피롤과 아크릴로니트릴-부타디엔 복합체에서의 전하이동 향상에 관한 연구

        The charge transfer rate in polypyrrole(PPy) electropolymerized within poly(acrylonitrile-co-butadiene)(PAB) was compared with that in PPy deposited Pt electrodes by using cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, and chronopotentiometry in acetonitrile. For both electrodes anodic and cathodic peak currents were proportional to scan rates below 100 mV/sec, but to square root of scan rates beyond 200 mV/sec. The apparent diffusion coefficient of ClO4- in the PPy/PAB composite is estimated to be 1.6 times larger than that in PPy. The PPy films composited within PAB layer showed higher anodic and cathodic currents and possessed faster charging-discharging process and larger capacity.

        Many Safety training up to now has been done at site varying with their condition without any standardization or fundamental work related technique. In order to prevent any accidents from construction site, now as we all know, we have to approach on it with work based method. The authors have investigated a couple of construction site for collecting the ideas from site Engineers of this. Some of ideas analyzed with the above related data have been shown as conclusions.

        건설업 안전경영시스템모델 개발

        Safety management cost, US$ one thousand billion has been input to the construction area from 1995 to 2000 but the management quality is still in the developing country level. The above mentioned increase of accident rate are attributed to the generous code regulation, net fit to the sense, varying with time change, but the more fundamental reason of this is no practical construction safety management system, up to now. Hardware-orienting operation for the system could be a main reason of this problem. In this paper, we developed a model for efficient construction safety system. It was found from the case study that the model result in high efficient with low cost.

        We attempted to develop a new electrochemical method that is possible to measure in low concentration or without supporting electrolyte. Three electrodes integrated with millimeter gap each other were applied to make up a bundle. The milli-structured electrode(MSE) was molded in soft glass and to be all platinum-wires of 1.96 x 10^(-3) cm^(2); working and reference electrode, and 7.85 x 10^(-3) cm^(2); counter electrode. The distance between electrodes was below millimeter. We confirmed through the redox reaction of Fe(CN)^(3-)_(6) what our MSE was a possible electrode to carry out as a electrochemical probe in low or without supporting electrolyte solution.

        손가락에 발생한 피하 석회화 결절 1예

        Subepidermal calcified nodule is a rather uncommon, but peculiar subtype of calcinosis cutis. It presents as a single asymptomatic, hard, yellowish white nodule which commonly occurs on the face of chileren. Histopathologic examination reveals the multifocal various-sized papillary dermal collection of dark blue amorphous globular deposits confirmed by von Kossa stain for calcium. We report a 42-year-old man who had small white hyperkeratotic papule on finger tip for more than 20 years. He could recall neither preceding trauma nor systemic illness. Excisional biopsy, with the clinical impression of verruca or corn, showed typical histopathologic features of the subepidermal calcified nodule.(Korean J Dermatol 2003;41(10) : 1414~1416)

        Superconducting MgB2 Wire Drawing Considering Anisotropic Hardening Behavior and Hydrostatic Effect

        Numerical modeling was conducted to investigate the deformation behavior of powder mixture during multi-pass drawingprocesses for multi-filamentary MgB2wire. A modified Drucker-Prager Cap (DPC) model with an elliptical cap surface usingthe new material characterization method was developed to capture the anisotropic hardening behavior and hydrostatic effectof the powder mixture. A number of uniaxial die compaction, cold isostatic pressing, diametrical compression, and uniaxialcompression tests were conducted using different powder densities to characterize the modified DPC model. A commercialfinite element software ABAQUS with a user subroutine was used to simulate the drawing of the MgB2wire. The densityand area fraction of the powder mixture during the wire-drawing process were verified with experimental results. The differencein packing density at the inner and outer filaments of the MgB2wire was successfully captured by simulation. Inaddition, the effect of the initial packing density on the superconducting properties of MgB2wire was numerically studied. It is shown that the increase in the superconducting area, which results from a high initial packing density, should be moreeffective compared to the increase in the grain connectivity in enhancing the critical current properties for the MgB2wirewhen the final packing density is saturated after a number of drawing processes.
