Background: The prognosis of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after curative resection varies greatly. Few studies had investigated the risk factors for early recurrence (recurrence-free time ${\leq}$ 1 year) of hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related HCCs meeting Milan criteria. Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on the 224 patients with HCC meeting Milan criteria who underwent curative liver resection in our center between February 2007 and March 2012. The overall survival (OS) rate, recurrence-free survival (RFS) rate and risk factors for early recurrence were analyzed. Results: After a median follow-up of 33.3 months, HCC reoccurred in 105 of 224 patients and 32 died during the period. The 1-, 3- and 5-year OS rates were 97.3%, 81.6% and 75.6% respectively, and the 1-, 3- and 5-year RFS rates were 73.2%, 53.7% and 41.6%. Cox regression showed alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) > 800 ng/ml (HR 2.538, 95% CI 1.464-4.401, P=0.001), multiple tumors (HR 2.286, 95% CI 1.123-4.246, P=0.009) and microvascular invasion (HR 2.518, 95% CI 1.475-4.298, P=0.001) to be associated with early recurrence (recurrence-free time ${\leq}$ 1-year) of HCC meeting Milan criteria. Conclusions: AFP > 800 ng/ml, multiple tumors and microvascular invasion are independent risk factors affecting early postoperative recurrence of HCC. In addition resection appears capable of replacing liver transplantation in some situations with safety and a better outcome.

Jiang, Chao,Sun, Wen-Jie,Wan, Yan-Chun,Wei, Ming-Wei,Mu, Yong-Ping,Tarver, Siobhan L.,Gao, Yong-Qing,Hu, Tian,Xu, Chao,Gordon, James,Feng, Cindy Xin,Wen, Yu-Feng Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.6
Introduction: Smoking prevalence among the medical students is high in China. Therefore, understanding the smoking motivations of medical students is crucial for smoking control, but currently there are no scales questionnaires customized for probing the smoking motivations of medical students. This aim of study was to test and modify a questionnaire for investigating smoking motivations among medical students. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 1,125 medical students at Xuzhou Medical College in China in 2012.The model fit and validity was assessed by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and the reliability was tested by single-item reliability, composite reliability, and item-total correlation. Results: The prevalence of smoking was 9.84 % among study population. In the modified scales, the global fit indices identified a CFI value of 0.96, TLI was 0.96, and the RMSEA was 0.063. CFA supported the two dimensional structure of the instrument. The average variance extracted ranged from 0.45 to 0.62. All single-item reliability scores were greater than 0.20, and the composite reliability ranged from 0.74 to 0.91. Conclusion: Modified scales could be the preliminary instrument used in evaluating the smoking motivations of medical students. However, it should be further assessed using other forms and methods of validity and reliability, additional motivations of smoking, and the survey of other medical colleges in China.
Head-on Collision Between Two Envelope Solitary Waves in a Granular Medium
Wen-Qing Du,Jian-An Sun,Juan-Fang Han,Wen-Shan Duan,Yang-Yang Yang,Xin Jiang 한국물리학회 2019 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.75 No.11
We investigated the head-on collision between two envelope solitary waves. Head-on collisions between two envelope solitary waves are first discussed in one-dimension (1D) granular chains. The interesting result is that no phase shift or phase delay detected after the head-on collision between two envelope solitary waves. The maximum amplitude during the head-on collision between two envelope solitary waves is also found to be less than the sum of the amplitudes of the two envelope solitary waves, but is larger than the amplitude of the either of the envelope solitary waves.
High Speed Abrasive Electrical Discharge Machining of Particulate Reinforced Metal Matrix Composites
Jiang-Wen Liu,Yong-Zhong Wu,Tai-Man Yue 한국정밀공학회 2015 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol. No.
A high speed abrasive electrical discharge machining (AEDM-HS) process has been developed to improve the performance and save the machining energy of the conventional EDM process in machining particulate reinforced metal matrix composites (MMCs). The AEDM-HS process functions under a combined action of spark erosion and direct mechanical grinding. A set of experiments was conducted and the results showed that the material removal rate (MRR) of AEDM-HS was much higher than that of EDM under the experimental conditions of this study. Moreover, the surface roughness value (Ra) measured for the AEDM-HS specimen was about six times smaller than that of the specimen machined without high speed abrasive action (i.e., EDM alone). The material removal mechanism of this novel process has been analyzed by means of single-pulse experimentation. And the relative importance of the various processing parameters on MRR was established using orthogonal analysis. The results showed that the MRR is influenced by the machining factors in the order of duty cycle > current > pulse duration. This study showed that the AEDM-HS process is superior to the EDM process for machining particulate reinforced MMCs, where a higher machining efficiency and a better surface quality can be obtained.

Background: Standardized extraction procedures for herb are as important as their authentication to maintain their quality and ensure their safe use. We had prepared a standardized and purified Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi extract, PF2405, which was enriched with three major components, baicalein, oroxylin A and wogonin. In the present study, we investigated the potential anti-inflammatory effects of PF2405 in vitro and in using by two different experimental animal models of inflammatory bowel disease Methods: Effect of PF2405 studied in tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-a-induced HT-29 cells in vitro. In vivo experimental colitis models were induced by administration of trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS) or dextran sulfate sodium (DSS). Results: PF2405 decreased TNF-a-induced Cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 expressions through inhibition of phosphorylation of c-Jun N-terminal kinases (JNK) and p38 mitogen- activated protein kinase (MAPK) in HT-29 cells. Combination of baicalein, oroxylin A, and wogonin markedly inhibits TNF-a-induced COX-2 expression when compared with individual components. PF2405 treatment significantly reduced histopathological severity and strongly suppressed the expression of COX-2, TNF-a as well as interleukin (IL)-1ß in TNBS-induced mice. Moreover, PF2405 has both potent preventive and therapeutic activities in DSS-induced colitis. Conclusions: PF2405 shows prominent anti-inflammatory effect that can be used as a new therapeutic agent for inflammatory bowel disease.
