To explore the relationship of the MOV10, A3G, and IFN-αmRNA levels with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection,Blood samples from 96 patients with chronic hepatitis B(CHB) and 21 healthy individuals as control were collected. HBV DNA load and aminotransferase in the serum weretested using real time PCR and velocity methods, respectively. The MOV10, A3G, and IFN-α mRNA levels in theperipheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) were examinedthrough qRT-PCR. The MOV10, A3G, and IFN-α mRNAlevels in CHB group was significantly lower than those inthe control group (P<0.01, P<0.05, P<0.01, respectively). TheA3G mRNA level in the high-HBV DNA load group waslower than that in the low-HBV DNA load group (P<0.05). However, no statistical difference was found in the MOV10and IFN-α mRNA levels between the two HBV DNA loadgroups. Furthermore, the MOV10 mRNA level showed positivecorrelation with IFN-α in the control group. These resultsindicated that the expression of the innate immune factorsMOV10, A3G, and IFN-α is affected by chronic HBV infection.

Objectives: To explore the correlation between multi-slice spiral CT (MSCT) perfusion parameters and the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) as well as matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) in breast cancer. Methods: Forty five breast cancer patients and 16 patients with benign breast tumor, both confirmed by pathology examination, were enrolled. All underwent MSCT perfusion imaging to obtain perfusion maps and data for parameters including blood flow (BF), blood volume (BV) and permeability surface (PS). Cancer patients did not receive treatment prior to surgery. The expression of VEGF and MMP-2 were examined with both immunohistochemistry and Western blotting. Results: The levels of VEGF and MMP-2 by immunohistochemistry were significantly higher in the breast cancer group (P < 0.01) than the benign tumor group. Relative OD values from Western blotting were also higher in cancer cases (P < 0.05). Similarly, the mean MSCT perfusion parameters (BF, BV, PS) were significantly higher in the breast cancer group (P < 0.01), BF and BV positively correlating with VEGF expression (r = 0.878 and 0.809 respectively, P < 0.01); PS and VEGF and MMP-2 expression were also positively correlated (r= 0.860, 0.786 respectively, P < 0.01). Conclusion: There is a correlation between breast cancer MSCT perfusion parameters and VEGF andMMP-2 expression, which might be useful for detection of breast lesions, qualitative diagnosis of breast cancer, and evaluation of breast cancer treatment.

<P>Summary: Novel hyperbranched poly(amine-ester) (HPAE) cross-linked films were prepared by cross-linking the terminal hydroxyl groups of HPAE using glutaraldehyde (GA). Atom force microscope and scanning electron microscope revealed their smooth surfaces, dense and homogenous matrices. Property characterizations indicated that these cross-linked films had good hydrophilicity, relative low protein adsorption, and high tensile strength. Also, their swelling behavior varied with the solvent.</P><P> <img src='wiley_img/10221336-2005-26-15-MARC200500242-gra001.gif' alt='wiley_img/10221336-2005-26-15-MARC200500242-gra001'> Graphic Structure of the hyperbranched poly(amine-ester). </P>

In rock TBM design the disc cutters’ layout design of the full-face rock tunnel boring machine (TBM) is one of the key technologies. However, there are few published papers in literatures for various reasons. In this paper, based on the engineering technical requirements and the corresponding cutter head’s structure design requirements, a nonlinear multi-objective disc cutters’ layout mathematical model with complex constraints and the corresponding multi-stage solution strategy are presented, in which the whole disc cutters’ layout design process is decomposed into the disc cutters’ spacing design and the disc cutters’ plane layout design. A numerical simulation method based on the FEM theory is adopted to simulate the rock chipping process induced by three TBM disc cutters to determine the optimal cutter spacing. And a cooperative coevolutionary genetic algorithm (CCGA) is adopted to solve the disc cutters’ plane layout design problem. Finally, a disc cutters’ layout design instance of the TBM is presented to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method. The computational results show that the proposed method can be used to solve the disc cutters’ layout design problem of the TBM and provide various layout schemes within short running times for the engineers to choose from.

Background/Aims: The optimal training mode for linear array endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) has not been established. Prior radial-scanning EUS training seems to improve subsequent linear array EUS learning. The objective of this randomized controlled trial was to evaluate its value in linear array EUS training. Methods: In total, 18 freshman trainees conducted hands-on EUS operations on a live pig model. The training contents consisted of visualization and tracking of the pancreas and splanchnic vasculature and performing fine-needle aspiration of the body or tail of the pancreas and celiac plexus neurolysis through the stomach. The trainees were randomized into two groups: group A received linear array EUS training after receiving radial-scanning EUS training, whereas group B conducted linear array EUS training alone. Two teachers assessed the competence of each trainee using a scoring system and relevant parameters before and after the training process. Results: Groups A and B showed significant improvement between the pretests and posttests in terms of diagnostic and interventional procedures. There was no intergroup difference in terms of improvement. Conclusions: Prior radial-scanning EUS training did not contribute to subsequent linear array EUS study performance in the pig stomach model; thus, this training mode may need to be changed. Based on the shaking table test of 1:20 scale structural models of the large-span isolated and non-isolated flat grid structures under the action of horizontal-bidirectional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) rare earthquake, the dynamic characteristics, including natural vibration frequency, damping ratio, the acceleration and displacement responses are investigated. The results show that the base isolation could significantly prolong the structural vibration periods and increase the damping ratio. The capacity of energy dissipation for the base-isolated structure can also be improved. The horizontal acceleration amplification factors (AAFs) of the structure can be reduced greatly due to the base isolation, which effectively reduces the vertical vibration of the large-span grid. Under the 3D seismic input, the horizontal AAF of each layer is greater than that under the 2D one, which illustrates that the vertical seismic input increases the horizontal dynamic response of the structure. Furthermore, the finite element models of the isolated and non-isolated structures were simulated. The experimental results are in good agreement with the numerical results. The parameter optimization of isolation bearings was conducted by using finite element software. The seismic response of each layer under different shear to weight ratios (μ) was analyzed. It can be found that the parameters of the isolation layer have an optimal range which makes the dynamic response of the structure reach a minimum value under the rare earthquake.

Ultrafiltration (UF) membranes are commonly confronted with threats from pollutants during long-termoperation. The zwitterions with high hydrophilicity are expected to be the critical material to improve theanti-fouling and antibacterial abilities of membranes. Herein, a new zwitterionic polyethersulfone (PES)(zwitterionic PES - ZPES) was synthesized. The as-prepared ZPES was used to fabricate a zwitterionic UFmembrane via the non-solvent induced phase inversion (NIPS) method. Zwitterionic polymer skeletonenhanced the hydrophilicity, permeability and anti-fouling properties of the material. As a result, theZPES membrane exhibited doubled water flux growth (269.6 Lm2h1) compared with that of the PES(125.3 Lm2h1) and high protein rejection (98.6%). Besides, the ZPES membrane could maintain anexcellent flux recovery rate (94.1%) and antibacterial effect (more than 95%). Therefore, the excellentanti-fouling and antibacterial abilities of the ZPES membrane broaden its application scope further.

Subcutaneous panniculitis-like T-cell lymphoma (SPTL) is an extremely rare, indolent skin malignancy that can be difficult to distinguish from autoimmune disease-associated panniculitides. Here, we describe a 12-year-old boy who was diagnosed at age 7 years with dermatomyositis with classical manifestations, including poikiloderma, Gottron’s sign, and symmetric muscle weakness. Recently, the boy presented multiple subcutaneous nodules and fever. Histopathological examination and immunohistochemical staining revealed co- existence of SPTL. To our knowledge, this is the first case of dermatomyositis accompanied with SPTL. This case alert clinical physicians of the possibility of SPTL should be considered when a patient with dermatomyositis has new lesions presenting as nodules and unknown fever.
