Novel pH-responsive semi-interpenetrated polymer network (semi-IPN) superabsorbent hydrogels were prepared by the radical graft polymerization of carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and partially neutralized acrylic acid (NaA) in the presence of a crosslinker, N,N’-methylene-bis-acrylamide (MBA), and linear polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). FTIR spectroscopy showed that NaA was grafted onto the CMC backbone and PVP combined with CMCg-PNaA network by hydrogen-bonding interaction. SEM showed that the formation of a semi-IPN structure improved the surface structure of the hydrogels. The reaction variables, including the mass ratio of acrylic acid (AA)to CMC, MBA concentration and PVP content were optimized, and the crosslinking density of the hydrogels was determined. In addition, the pH-response, swelling behavior of the hydrogel in various saline solutions and aqueous cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) solutions were investigated. The results showed that the introduction of CMC and PVP clearly enhanced the swelling capability and rate, and improved the pH-responsive and On-Off switching swelling abilities, salt-resistance, and intriguing time-dependent swelling characteristics.

In this work, effects of artificial aging temperature on the mechanical properties and precipitation behavior of a pre-strainedAl–Cu–Mg–Ag alloy were investigated by hardness and tensile tests, and quantitative transmission electron microscopeanalysis. Three aging conditions, a single aging at a high temperature (T8H), a single aging at a low temperature (T8L) andan interrupted aging at low temperature following under-aging at a higher temperature (T8I4), were compared. Based on thequantitative analysis of the strengthening phases, the evolution law of the average diameter, thickness and volume fractionof Ω plates with the aging time for a pre-stretched Al–Cu–Mg–Ag alloy aged at 190 °C/160 °C may be predicted by themodified equations. The precipitation behavior of Ω precipitates was confirmed by considering the coarsening kinetics ofthem. Results show that a higher aging temperature can increase the precipitation kinetics of Ω phase and inhibit the precipitationof θ′ phase. Thus, a new type of interrupted aging treatment, T8I4 (3.2% pre-stretch + 190 °C/1 h + 160 °C/10 h),was proposed to enhance the strength of the pre-stretched Al–Cu–Mg–Ag alloy.
Bandwidth Scheduling for Big Data Transfer with Two Variable Node-Disjoint Paths

Many large-scale applications in broad science, engineering,and business domains are generating big data, which must betransferred to remote sites for various storage and analysis purposes. Bandwidth reservation services that discover feasible routingoptions over dedicated paths in high-performance networkshave proved to be effective for such big data transfer. In thispaper, we formulate a generic problem of bandwidth schedulingwith two variable node-disjoint paths (BS-2VNDP) by exploringthe flexibility and capacity of multiple data transfer paths. We furtherconsider two variable paths of either fixed or variable bandwidthwith negligible or non-negligible path switching delay, referredto as 2VPFB-0/1 and 2VPVB-0/1, respectively.We prove thatall of these four scheduling problems are NP-complete, and thenpropose a heuristic algorithm for each. For performance comparison,we also design several other heuristic algorithms based on agreedy strategy. These scheduling algorithms are implemented andtested in both simulated and real-life networks, and extensive resultsshow that the proposed heuristic algorithms significantly outperformother algorithms in comparison.

acid B (SAB) is an active phytocomponent of a popular Chinese herb called Radix Salvia militiorrhiza with numerous biological properties. The anti-psoriasis activity of SAB was examined by evaluating various psoriasis inflammatory and keratin markers against imiquimod (IMQ)-induced psoriasis on BALB/c mice. Totally 50 healthy BALB/c mice were evenly divided into 5 groups including control, drug control (SAB; 40 mg/kg), IMQ-induced psoriasis (5%), IMQ exposure and treated with SAB (40 mg/kg), or standard methotrexate (MTX; 1 mg/kg). Mice supplemented with either SAB or MTX significantly lowered the values of psoriasis area severity index (PASI), erythema, scaling, skin thickness, inflammatory markers (interleukin [IL]- 22/23/17A/1β/6) and lipid peroxidation product (malondialdehyde). Also, IMQ exposed BALB/c mice treated with SAB or MTX display lesser histopathological changes with enhanced antioxidant activities (catalase, superoxide dismutase). Moreover, the protein expression of keratin markers (K16 and K17) and phosphatidylinositol- 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (Akt) signaling proteins (pAkt/Akt and pPI3K/PI3K) were significantly downregulated after administration with SAB and MTX as compared with IMQ induced mice. Taking together, SAB and MTX significantly ameliorate psoriatic changes by inhibiting psoriatic inflammatory and keratin markers through abolishing PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. However, further studies (clinical trials) are needed to confirm the anti-psoriatic property of SAB before recommending to psoriasis patients.

N-succinyl-chitosan-g-polyacrylamide/attapulgite (NSC-g-PAM/APT) composite was applied as adsorbent for the removal of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution. The initial pH value of the dye solutions, the contact temperature, the contact time and the concentration of the dye solutions on adsorption capacity of the composite for MB dye were investigated. The adsorption kinetics and isotherms were also studied. It was shown that all the sorption processes were better fitted by pseudo-second-order equation and the Langmuir equation. The results indicated that the adsorption capacity of the composite was higher than those of chitosan (CTS) and attapulgite (APT). The desorption studies revealed that the composite provided the potential for regeneration and reuse after MB dye adsorption, which implied that the composite could be used as quite effective adsorbent for the removal of MB from aqueous solution.

To improve the specific capacitance and energy density of electrochemical capacitor, nanostructured NiO was prepared by high temperature solid-state method as electrode material. The crystal structure and morphology of as-parepared NiO samples were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurement was applied to investigate the specific capacitance of the NiO electrode. Furthermore,a novel mixed electrolyte consisting of NaOH, KOH, LiOH and Li_2CO_3 was prepared for the NiO capacitor,and the component and concentration of the four different electrolytes was examined by orthogonal test. The results showed that the NiO sample has cubic structure with nano-size particles, and the optimal composition of the electrolyte was: NaOH 2 mol L^(−1), KOH 3 mol L^(−1), LiOH 0.05 mol L^(−1), and Li_2CO_3 0.05 mol L^−1. At a scan rate of 10 mV s^(−1), the fabricated capacitor exhibits excellent electrochemical capacitive performance, while the specific capacitance and the energy density were 239 F g^(−1) and 85 Wh kg^(−1), which was higher than one-component electrolyte.

In the present work, the structural, electronic, elastic and mechanical properties of Ti2AlC and Ti2Al(C1-xOx) solid solutions were investigated using first-principles calculations for varied O content incorporation (x = 0, 0.125, 0.25, 0.375, 0.5). According to the calculation results, all Ti2Al(C1-xOx) solid solutions with various x values are stable, and the bonding strength of the Ti–Al bond increases with the doping of O element. In addition, the shear modulus G and C44 elastic constant of Ti2Al(C1-xOx) solid solutions are both lower than the bulk modulus B, indicating that the phase has good damage tolerance. Not only that, compared with Ti2AlC, the plasticity and toughness of Ti2Al(C1-xOx) solid solutions are improved with the increase of O atom doping and doping ratio. Simultaneously, the doping of O atom is also beneficial to reduce the generalized stacking fault energy of Ti2AlC, making the Ti2Al(C1-xOx) solid solutions more prone to shear deformation, thereby further enhancing plasticity.
