Purpose. The study objective was to evaluate the influence of the type of resin cement on the flexural strength and load to fracture of two chairside CAD-CAM materials after aging. Materials and Methods. A polymer-infiltrated ceramic network (PICN) and a nanoceramic resin (RNC) were used to produce the specimens. Two types of dual-cure resin cements, a self-adhesive and a universal, were investigated. Bilayer specimens were produced (n = 10) and aged for 6 months in a humid environment before the biaxial flexural strength test (σf). Bonded specimens were subjected to a mechanical aging protocol (50 N, 2 Hz, 37°C water, 500,000 cycles) before the compressive load test (Lf). σf and Lf data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA and Tukey tests (α = .05). Chi-square test was used to analyze the relationship between failure mode and experimental group (α = .05). Results. The type of resin cement and the interaction between factors had no effect on the σf and Lf of the specimens, while the type of restorative material was significant. RNC had higher σf and Lf than PICN. There was a significant association among the type of cracks identified for specimens tested in Lf and the restorative material. Conclusion. The type of resin cement had no effect on the flexural strength and load to fracture of the two investigated CAD-CAM chairside materials after aging.

The use of benefi cial fungi and bacteria can improve growth, yield and food quality of plants. The electrical conductivity (EC) of a nutrient solution is closely linked to better nutrition of arugula plants in a hydroponic system. Therefore, objectives of current study were to evaluate isolated and combined eff ect of inoculation with Azospirillum brasilense and Trichoderma hazianum under two ECs on root-shoot biomass, nutrition and yield of arugula in hydroponic cultivation system. The experi- ment was designed in a strip-plot block with fi ve replications in a 4 × 2 factorial scheme. The treatments were consisted of four microbial inoculations (without, A. brasilense, T. harzianum and co-inoculation of both) and two ECs (1.4 and 1.6 dS m −1). The higher EC with A. brasilense inoculation provided greater growth of arugula plants in a hydroponic system. Inoculation with A. brasilense has increased leaf area, shoot–root length, leaf chlorophyll index (LCI) and shoot ammonium accumulation while reduced root-shoot nitrate accumulation. The leaf nutrition or biofortifi cation of arugula plants with K, S, Ca, Mg, Zn, Fe, and Mn was improved under both isolated and combined inoculations of A. brasilense and T. harzianum .

Ziotti Isabella Rodrigues,Paschoini Vitória Leite,Corona Silmara Aparecida Milori,Souza-Gabriel Aline Evangelista 대한치과보존학회 2022 Restorative Dentistry & Endodontics Vol.47 No.3
Objectives Metalloproteinase-inhibiting agents, such as chitosan, can prevent collagen degradation in demineralized dental substrates, thereby improving the adhesive interface. This study evaluated the bond strength (BS) and chemical and morphological characterization of the adhesive interface after applying chitosan solution to demineralized dentin. Materials and Methods The 80 third molars were selected. Forty teeth underwent caries induction using the pH cycling method. The teeth were divided according to the treatment: distilled water (control) and 2.5% chitosan solution. The surfaces were restored using adhesive and composite resins. Half of the specimens in each group were aged, and the other half underwent immediate analyses. The teeth were sectioned and underwent the microtensile bond strength test (µTBS), and chemical and morphological analyses using energy-dispersive spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. Data analysis was performed using 3-way analysis of variance. Results For µTBS, sound dentin was superior to demineralized dentin (p < 0.001), chitosan-treated specimens had higher bond strength than the untreated ones (p < 0.001), and those that underwent immediate analysis had higher values than the aged specimens (p = 0.019). No significant differences were observed in the chemical or morphological compositions. Conclusions Chitosan treatment improved bond strength both immediately and after aging, even in demineralized dentin.

PURPOSE. To evaluate and compare the effect of impression type (conventional vs digital) and the number of implants on the time from the impressions to the generation of working casts of mandibular implant-supported fixed completearch frameworks, as well as on patient satisfaction. MATERIALS AND METHODS. 17 participants, 3 or 4 implants, received 2 types of digital impression methods (DI) and conventional (CI). In DI, two techniques were performed: scanning with the scan bodies (SC) and scanning with a device attached to the scan bodies (SD) (BR 10 2019 026265 6). In CI, the making of a solid index (SI) and open-tray impression (OT) were used. The outcomes were used to evaluate the time and the participant satisfaction with conventional and digital impressions. The time was evaluated through the timing of the time obtained in the workflow in the conventional and digital impression. The effect of the number of implants on time was also assessed. Satisfaction was assessed through a questionnaire based on seven. The Wilcoxon test used to identify the statistical difference between the groups in terms of time. The Mann-Whitney test was used to analyze the relationship between the time and the number of implants. Fisher's test was used to assess the patient satisfaction (P <.05). RESULTS. The time with DI was shorter than with CI (DI, x~=02:58; CI, x~=31:48) (P <.0001). The arches rehabilitated with 3 implants required shorter digital impression time (3: x~=05:36; 4: x~=09:16) (P <.0001). Regarding satisfaction, the DI was more comfortable and pain-free than the CI (P <.005). CONCLUSION. Digital impressions required shorter chair time and had higher patient acceptance than conventional impressions.

Background/Aims: Metastases of malignant melanoma (MM) are rare and associated with poor prognosis. The objective of this studywas to analyze the clinical and endoscopic characteristics of gastric metastases of MM by systematically reviewing cases and case seriesinvolving patients diagnosed using upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. Methods: The PubMed and LILACS databases were searched. Reports containing individual patient data were included. Outcomessuch as clinical data, endoscopic findings, treatments, and survival were analyzed. Results: A total of 88 studies with individual data from 113 patients with gastric metastases of MM were included. The primary sites ofMM were the skin (62%), eyes (10%), and mucous membranes (6%). Most patients (56%) had multiple metastases in the stomach, locatedpredominantly in the gastric body (approximately 80%). The overall survival rate at 2 years was 4%. There was a significant reductionin the survival of patients with multiple gastric metastases compared to that of patients with single metastasis (hazard ratio,0.459; 95% confidence interval, 0.235−0.895; p=0.022). Conclusions: Gastric metastases of MM have a poor prognosis, especially in patients with multiple implants in the stomach. Additionalstudies are needed to verify whether ocular and mucosal melanomas are associated with a higher risk of gastric metastases than thatof cutaneous melanomas.

Microfluidics deals with the behavior, precise control and manipulation of fluids at a micro scale. It has become increasingly prevalent in various applications such as biomedical applications (diagnostics, therapeutics, and cell/tissue engineering), inkjet head, and fuel cells etc. The issue of inspection and characterization of microfluidics has emerged as a major consideration in design, fabrication, and detection of microfluidic devices. In this paper, we characterize a diffusion based mixing in Y-microchannel using a fluorescent optical scanner based on a DVD pick-up module, which is widely used in optical storages. Using fluorescent dye, we measure the fluorescent intensity that represents the mixing patterns in Y-microchannel. We also compare these experimental results with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation ones. It is shown that the proposed optical scanner can be used as an alternative measurement system with high performance and cost-effectiveness, compared to conventional optical tools such as epifluorescent microscopes using high resolution CCD camera and confocal microscopes with photomultiplier (PMT) detectors.

Microfluidics has become increasingly prevalent and has founded widespread use in various applications such as biomedical applications (diagnostics, therapeutics, and cell/tissue engineering), inkjet head, and fuel cells etc. Many researchers have studied the characteristics of microfluidics in microchannel in order to understand the micro-scale phenomena unlike macro-scale, In this paper, we characterize the mixing flow pattern and diffusion rate when two flows are combined in microchannel, using a fluorescence scanner based on a DVD pick-up module, which is widely used in optical storage devices. Using Cy5.5 dye, we measure the fluidic characteristics in Y-microchannel with 1 ㎛ resolution and compare experimental results with CFD simulation ones. It is shown that the proposed fluorescent scanner can be effectively used to observe microfluidic characteristics, being a cost-effective alternative device to conventional epi-fluorescent microscopes using high resolution CCD camera.
