Factors Prompting Impulse Buying Behavior: Shoppers in Dubai
Sanjeev Prashar,Adeshwar Raja B.,V. S. Parasaran,Vijay Kumar Venna 한국유통과학회 2015 Asian Journal of Business Environment (AJBE) Vol.5 No.3
Purpose – This paper aims to identify and rank factors that influence impulse buying behavior among shoppers in Dubai. Research design, data, and methodology – Questionnaires were collected from 168 Dubai shoppers using non-probability quota sampling. Factor Analysis was completed to identify factors triggering impulse buying traits. Results – Six antecedent factors were identified: hedonism, in-store influences, product related influences, socialization, promotional activities, and convenience. Surprisingly, product related influences were the most significant in stimulating impulse buying behavior. Conclusions – This research suggests that a multitude of factors affect shopper propensity for impulse buying, with non-economic factors like product and in-store related influences having a significant impact. Hence, retail managers should concentrate on these in merchandising and promotional efforts. Against the backdrop of Dubai, one of the biggest retail destinations, this study contributes to present knowledge on impulse buying behavior. In terms of shopper inclinations and likeliness to purchase products, it highlights how shoppers respond to special in-store displays and discount offerings. For marketers, the findings regarding relative significance of various factors may help in strategies to attract consumers.
Antioxidant potential of aerial part of Asclepias curassavica. Linn (Family-Asclepiadaceae)
Raja, S,Ahamed, KFH Nazeer,Kumar, V,Mukherjee, Kakali,Bandyopadhyay, Arun,Mukherjee, Pulok K Kyung Hee Oriental Medicine Research Center 2005 Oriental pharmacy and experimental medicine Vol.5 No.2
Asclepias curassavica. Linn, an erect, simple (or) much branched perennial herb with a somewhat woody base, belonging to the family Asclepiadaceae. It has been reported to have multiple pharmacological effect of anti-inflammatory, cardiotonic, anticancer, anthelmintic and to treat piles and gonorrhoea. It is to be expected that several activities might be related to a possible antioxidant action from this plant. The hydro alcoholic extract of Asclepias curassavica was tested in vitro for its antioxidant activities, such as DPPH radical, nitric oxide radical, superoxide anion radical, lipid peroxidation assay, hydroxyl radical, reducing power, and total phenol content. The extract exhibited scavenging potential with $IC_{50}$ value of $8.7\;{\mu}g/ml,\;198.4\;{\mu}g/ml\;and\;21.7\;{\mu}g/ml$ for DPPH, nitric oxide and superoxide anion radicals. The values were found to higher than those of Vitamin-C, rutin, and curcumin, as standards. The extract showed 50% protection at the dose of $134.2\;{\mu}g/ml\;and\;41.4\;{\mu}g/ml$ in lipid peroxidation as well as deoxyribose degradation, those values more to that of standard, vitamin E $(IC50\;values,\;119.2\;{\mu}g/ml\;and\;32.5\;{\mu}g/ml,\;respectively)$. The reducing power of the extract depends on the concentration and amount of extract. Since a significant amount of polyphenol could be detected by the equivalent to $0.0495\;{\mu}g$ of pyrocatechol from 1 mg of extract. It can be concluded that hydro alcoholic extract of aerial part of Asclepias curassavica could be considered as potent antioxidant, which makes it suitable for the prevention of human disease.
An Approach for Designing a UMTS and CDMA2000 Dual Standard Compatible Baseband ASIC
Kumar Amit,Bansal Munish,Kumar Ratnam V. Raja Korea Institute of Information and Telecommunicati 2004 정보통신설비학회논문지 Vol.3 No.1
The Third Generation (3G) cellular mobile communication systems aim at providing higher data rates, improved quality of service, support for multimedia applications and global roaming. Cdma2000 and Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) have emerged as two leading 3G standards in USA and European countries, respectively. Both the standards are capable of delivering high bandwidth data, voice and multimedia services to users of mobile equipment, but are not directly interoperableand are not available across different geographic areas, due to which global roaming is not possible in true sense of using single mobile equipment. However, both UMTS and cdma2000 are based on wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) as the access method. Due to this, there exist some inherent commonalities between them. In this paper we will try to exploit the commonalities between the two standards in order to design an ASIC, which can provide dual standard capability. This paper discusses the physical layer aspects of the two standards and proposes an approach to design an ASIC which can be mapped to baseband processing part of the physical layer and is capable of delivering for either of the two aforementioned standards.

Energy harvesting from rotational motion has drawn attention over the years to energise low-power wireless sensor networks in a rotating environment. The harvester works efficiently in a small frequency range which has to be similar to the driving frequency. Because of the constraints of size, precision, and the energy harvester’s weight, it is challenging to design it to suit micro applications. To deal with this problem, this paper proposes a rotational piezoelectric energy harvester (RPEH), which generates a voltage output from rotational motion. This design increases the gravitational force acting on the system by increasing the length of the beam, which in turn increases its vibration in a transverse direction. EulerBernoulli’s theory is utilized to derive the mathematical model of the RPEH under rotational motion, and harvester dynamic equations are derived using the electromechanical Lagrange equations. A prototype of RPEH is developed and the exactness of the proposed mathematical model is verified using experimental results and numerical simulation. Maximum power of 43.77 µW is produced at a rotating frequency of 21 Hz (1260 rpm) with an optimum load resistance of 1141.3 kΩ.
