• Tailor-made dicationic ionic liquid as a fluorescent sensor for detection of hydroquinone and catechol

        Patil, Sandip K.,Patil, Suryakant A.,Vadiyar, Madagonda M.,Awale, Deepak V.,Sartape, Ashish S.,Walekar, Laxman S.,Kolekar, Govind B.,Ghorpade, Uma V.,Kim, Jin H.,Kolekar, Sanjay S. Elsevier 2017 Journal of molecular liquids Vol.244 No.-

We are exploring a geminal dicationic ionic liquid (DCIL), 1,1'-(propane-1,3-diyl)bis(4-aminopyridin-1-ium) dihydroxide, [C-3(Amp)(2)][OH](2) as a fluorescent probe for detection of dihydroxybenzenes viz. hydroquinone (HQ) and catechol (CC). Simple and sensitive spectrofluorometric method is described which accomplished with efficient quenching of fluorescence of aqueous DCIL by dihydroxybenzenes. The sensor offers good linear detection range of 1-400 mu M and 1-1000 mu M with detection limits of 0.31 mu M and 0.40 mu M for HQ and CC, respectively. Under alkaline conditions HQ/CC oxidizes to corresponding benzoquinones which interact with DCIL and consequently quenching of fluorescence is occurred. This essential alkaline condition is in situ provided by purposefully tuned DCIL to having basic nature. The plausible quenching mechanism that involves photo-induced charge transfer pathway is evidently discussed. The proposed method is competent over a broad detection range. Selectivity of method is demonstrated by scrutinizing intervention of various interfering species. Recoveries from water sample analysis emphasize the possible use of DCIL probe in the detection of HQ and CC from water sources. The proposed method certainly confers a new approach in sensing techniques for dihydroxybenzenes. (C) 2017 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Principal Component Analysis and Molecular Characterization of Reniform Nematode Populations in Alabama

        Seloame T. Nyaku,Ramesh V. Kantety,Ernst Cebert,Kathy S. Lawrence,Joseph O. Honger,Govind C. Sharma 한국식물병리학회 2016 Plant Pathology Journal Vol.32 No.2

U.S. cotton production is suffering from the yield losscaused by the reniform nematode (RN), Rotylenchulusreniformis. Management of this devastating pest is ofutmost importance because, no upland cotton cultivarexhibits adequate resistance to RN. Nine populationsof RN from distinct regions in Alabama and onepopulation from Mississippi were studied and thirteenmorphometric features were measured on 20 male and20 female nematodes from each population. Highly correlatedvariables (positive) in female and male RN morphometricparameters were observed for body length(L) and distance of vulva from the lip region (V) (r = 0.7)and tail length (TL) and c’ (r = 0.8), respectively. Thefirst and second principal components for the femaleand male populations showed distinct clustering intothree groups. These results show pattern of sub-groupswithin the RN populations in Alabama. A one-wayANOVA on female and male RN populations showedsignificant differences (p ≤ 0.05) among the variables.Multiple sequence alignment (MSA) of 18S rRNA sequences(421) showed lengths of 653 bp. Sites within thealigned sequences were conserved (53%), parsimonyinformative(17%), singletons (28%), and indels (2%),respectively. Neighbor-Joining analysis showed intraand inter-nematodal variations within the populationsas clone sequences from different nematodes irrespectiveof the sex of nematode isolate clustered together. Morphologically, the three groups (I, II and III) couldnot be distinctly associated with the molecular datafrom the 18S rRNA sequences. The three groups maybe identified as being non-geographically contiguous.

Transfer Dysphagia Due To Focal Dystonia

2018 Journal Of Movement Disorders Vol.11 No.3

Objective The inability to propel a bolus of food successfully from the posterior part of the oral cavity to the oropharynx is defined as transfer dysphagia. The present case series describes the varied presentation of transfer dysphagia due to focal dystonia and highlights the importance of early detection by following up on strong suspicions. Methods We describe seven cases of transfer dysphagia due to focal dystonia. Transfer dysphagia as a form of focal dystonia may appear as the sole presenting complaint or may present with other forms of focal dystonia. Results Four out of seven patients had pure transfer dysphagia and had previously been treated for functional dysphagia. A high index of suspicion, barium swallow including videofluoroscopy, associated dystonia in other parts of the body and response to drug therapy with trihexyphenidyl/tetrabenazine helped to confirm the diagnosis. Conclusion Awareness of these clinical presentations among neurologists and non-neurologists can facilitate an early diagnosis and prevent unnecessary investigations.

        B. G. PRASHANTHA,M. S. GOVINDE GOWDA,S. SEETHARAMU,G. S. V. L. NARASIMHAM 대한설비공학회 2013 International Journal Of Air-Conditioning and Refr Vol.21 No.1

This paper deals with the design and analysis of a quarter-wavelength, 10W capacity, thermoacoustic refrigerator using short stack boundary layer approximation assumptions. The e®ect of operating frequency on the performance of the refrigerator is studied using dimensional normalization technique. The variation of stack diameter with average gas pressure and cooling power is discussed. The resonator optimization is discussed and the calculation results show a 9% improvement in the coe±cient of performance and 201% improvement in power density for the optimized quarter-wavelength resonator compared to published optimization studies. The optimized resonator design is tested with DeltaEC software and the results show better performance compared to past established resonator designs.

THEORETICAL EVALUATION OF LOUDSPEAKER FOR A 10 WATTS COOLING POWER THERMOACOUSTIC REFRIGERATOR

        B. G. PRASHANTHA,M. S. GOVINDE GOWDA,S. SEETHARAMU,G. S. V. L. NARASIMHAM 대한설비공학회 2013 International Journal Of Air-Conditioning and Refr Vol.21 No.4

This paper presents a design of moving coil loudspeaker for a 10W cooling power thermoacoustic refrigerator. An electrical model is presented which simulates the behavior of the loudspeaker. The gas spring system for matching the frequency of the commercially available loudspeaker with the frequency of the acoustic resonator tube for maximizing electro-acoustical e±ciency of the loudspeaker is discussed. The optimum back volume for the gas spring system is found to be 59.7 cc, which is about 1.9% of the total resonator volume when the loudspeaker frequency and the acoustic resonator frequency is made equal at 400 Hz with a moving mass of 20 g. The effect of force factor Bl on loudspeaker performance is discussed. Analysis results shows that for better performance of a refrigerator, the loudspeaker should be chosen to have a large force factor and small values for electrical and mechanical resistances. The refrigerator system is tested with DeltaEC software and its results are in good agreement with an electrical model results.

Focused Review on Cu–Ni–Sn Spinodal Alloys: From Casting to Additive Manufacturing

        Bipin Sankar,Chaitanya Vinay,Jithin Vishnu,Karthik V. Shankar,G. P. Gokul Krishna,V. Govind,A. J. Jayakrishna 대한금속·재료학회 2023 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.29 No.5

The present review article evaluates the research and progress status of Cu–Ni–Sn-based spinodal alloys focussed on themethods and technologies implemented to enhance the properties of cast Cu–Ni–Sn alloys in industrial applications, particularlyin components such as bearings, bushings, propellers, and impellers that find extensive demand in the marineand automotive industry. The review introduces the limitations of employing copper-beryllium alloys in the industry anddiscusses how Cu–Ni–Sn alloys represent a potential alternative. Subsequently, a comprehensive overview of spinodaldecomposition is provided, considering the thermodynamic aspects and the Cu–Ni–Sn ternary phase diagram. The processingof Cu–Ni–Sn alloys via traditional casting is explored with an overview of various casting techniques and ensuingmicrostructure-property relationships. The two significant limitations, segregation during solidification and discontinuousprecipitation, are highlighted. Strategies to overcome these limitations, such as precipitation hardening, spinodal decomposition,thermo-mechanical processing, and composition design (with the effect of varying elemental additions), are furtherelaborated. The review summarises novel processing routes encompassing mechanical alloying, rapid solidification, powdermetallurgy, and spray deposition for developing spinodal Cu–Ni–Sn alloys. Finally, the progress in fabricating Cu–Ni–Snspinodal alloys using additive manufacturing techniques such as selective laser melting is highlighted. There are publishedreview papers on the wrought processing of Cu–Ni–Sn alloys, so this area has not been covered here. Overall, this reviewarticle is intended to streamline an overview of the characteristics and gradual developments from cast Cu–Ni–Sn spinodalalloys to additive manufacturing-based Cu–Ni–Sn spinodal alloys.

DESIGN AND OPTIMIZATION OF A LOUDSPEAKER DRIVEN 10-W COOLING POWER THERMOACOUSTIC REFRIGERATOR

        B. G. PRASHANTHA,M. S. GOVINDE GOWDA,S. SEETHARAMU,G. S. V. L. NARASIMHAM 대한설비공학회 2014 International Journal Of Air-Conditioning and Refr Vol.22 No.3

The design and optimization procedure for a loudspeaker driven 10-W cooling power thermoacoustic refrigerator components with a temperature difference of 120 K has been discussed using the linear thermoacoustic theory. The resonator losses are proportional to surface area and the optimum diameter ratio of small and large resonator tubes for minimum heat loss for a quarter-wavelength hemispherical ended resonator design is discussed. The hemispherical ended resonator design is further analytically optimized to increase COP, cooling effect at cold heat exchanger and power density by decreasing total resonator surface area and volume. An alternate convergent-divergent resonator design is proposed which is found to be more efficient compared to previous published designs. Resonator designs are tested with DeltaEC software, which predicts a lowest temperature of -48°C and -47°C for the improved hemispherical and convergent-divergent resonator designs, respectively. Theoretical results are in good agreement with DeltaEC results.
